A Quick Guide to Liverpool England

Liverpool is a city located in the north west of England. The city rests to the east of the Mersey Estuary and it boasts a population of 444,500. The Borough of Liverpool was founded by King John’s Charter in 1207 and the city quickly developed a firm reputation as one of Britain’s busiest ports. By the beginning of the 19th century, the city was receiving 40% of the world’s passing trade. The wealth that Liverpool generated at this time is still apparent in the numerous impressive buildings dotted along the docks and harbour. In fact, the city’s waterfront was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2004.

Liverpool’s rich history offers visitors some fascinating attractions as it is home to over 2,500 listed buildings, a large number of public sculptures and numerous beautiful Georgian houses. Just a few of the city’s abundant attractions include: The Anglican Cathedral, which was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, and features the world’s largest organ and highest and heaviest peal of bells. Another essential attraction is the Tate Liverpool, a modern art gallery located on the beautiful and historic Albert Dock. Another popular landmark is the Philharmonic Dining Rooms (known locally as ‘The Phil’). The building’s exterior features stunning Art Nouveau architecture, while the interior features Art Deco designs. The Phil was a popular hangout spot for Liverpool’s most famous sons, The Beatles.

The city is home to three universities and as a result it hosts a vibrant and youthful population. Liverpool is a cosmopolitan, bustling city, which features a wide variety of shops, restaurants and bars to suit all tastes. For sport fans, Liverpool also proudly boasts two Premier League football clubs: Everton F.C. and Liverpool F.C., who play at Goodison Park and Anfield, respectively. Popular excursions from Liverpool include a visit to the historic city of Chester, just 40 minutes away, and a relaxing trip to the sandy beaches of West Kirby.

Jose Mourinho Wants Return To English Premier League

Whenever Jose Mourinho speaks – the football world listens. He simply is one of its best tacticians and motivators and will be regarded as one of its best coaches when his career is over. What he has achieved already puts him in the pantheon of all-time greats. Two European Cups (Champions League) with Porto and Inter. League titles with Porto, Chelsea and Inter. He is unique because he not only wins silverware in one league – he crosses over to different leagues and keeps winning. How many great managers have done that?

RETURN OF THE SPECIAL ONE

Mourinho was speaking at a gala event in London about his plans for next season and it sounds very much like he is planning a return to the English Premier League – obviously with one of the Big Six clubs. Mourinho was quoted saying that he has «unfinished business» in the EPL – alluding to the unceremonious way he was booted out of Chelsea by owner Roman Abramovich. He spoke about his passion for the English game, its fans and its atmospheric charm.

WHERE HE WILL LAND

When Jose Mourinho declares him on the market – he commands the attention of every elite club in Europe. In this case – only the EPL Big Six need apply. Its interesting to see in summer where he will land. There are really only three teams in the Big Six that Mourinho will realistically surface in. Man United, Liverpool and Arsenal are not in the hunt for a new manager. They have their own iconic bosses in places. Man City, Chelsea and Tottenham are the only clubs in this conversation. Man City would love to have someone with Mourinho’s prestige, presence and tactical cache managing their team of stars. Roberto Mancini has had a difficult season but has performed admirably well considering the pressure he’s under. I put them as the favorites to land Mourinho. Chelsea may want Mourinho back but its like a break up we’ve all had. Do we really want to revisit all that emotional baggage and can bygones be bygones? Its tough. But its a business and its Abramovich’s call to make. He has Mourinho’s number. Tottenham are the outsiders here. They are happy with what Harry Redknapp’s work so far. But if England let Fabio Capello go – it will set about a chain of events that could eventually suck Redknapp out of Tottenham. He is the overwhelming favorite to land the England manager job. If that happens, then Tottenham will step up their chase for Mourinho.

THE LAST WORD

I think Mourinho will choose carefully the club where he will enjoy relatively unfettered authority over his roster as well as transfer decisions. He has been unhappy at Real Madrid because they have a decision making structure that does not feature Mourinho as commander-in-chief as far as transfer decisions go. He also will command a hefty price. Those two factors put Man City in pole-position because they have both the financial resources as well as the need for a football czar and manager. Mourinho would relish both positions and he will do amazing work if given those twin roles. I don’t think Tottenham can afford Mourinho but they have to ask themselves if they can afford NOT to have someone as gifted as Mourinho. Managers like him do not become available every year. They have to chase him despite Redknapp’s stellar work. He is a definite upgrade. As for Chelsea – its the classic kiss-and-make-up scenario.

Chelsea Run Away with the English Premiership Football Title

The seemingly invincible Chelsea FC look set to record their second consecutive Premiership soccer title after a convincing 2-0 defeat of Liverpool FC.

Now 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League, Chelsea barring catastrophe will be champions again. This is in no small way due to their enigmatic manager Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese master tactician has instilled a belief of invincibility in his team that is rarely seen.

Many fans of English football may point to the fact that Mourinho has spent vast amounts of his Chairman’s money to attain this position, but that is not the reason for Chelsea’s success. The credit must go to Mourinho, the man they call «The Special One». He continues to make the correct selections, and more importantly, his interventions from the sidelines are rarely innefective. He is the consummate professional.

Chelsea seem set to embark on a domination of the English game, and as long as Mourinho is in charge, they will continue to set the benchmark. Whether they can go on to dominate the European tournaments in the same way is a question soon to be answered, they certainly have the talent and the right man at the helm, but Europe is difficult to conquer.

The forthcoming Champions league games are awaited with baited breath…

Liverpool Highlights For A Whistle Stop Tour

Big city, big sites…small time frame…

Liverpool is one of the top tourist destinations in the UK. As an official UNESCO World Heritage Site, the entire city is in itself an attraction that the world holds in great esteem. With a stunning waterfront as the basis of its UNESCO status and a city skyline filled with buildings that echo the cities status in the 18th and 19th centuries as a centre for global commerce and British exploration of the world.

So what should you go and see if you only have a day or less to see everything? Here is a quick tour suggestion:

Culture

For a quick fix of amazing cultural inspiration and gateway to the past, head to Liverpool Walker Art Gallery, the national gallery of the North is home to countless paintings by grand masters. This incredibly central and unmistakable gallery is home to works by Rembrandt, Turner, Degas and Hockney and is easily explored in an hour or so, as long as you don’t pause at each picture too long.

Sport

If you love sport, then you have come to the right city. With both Liverpool FC and Everton FC, two of the best Premiership football teams in the country within the same city; if you visit on a Saturday you can be assured of getting a chance to see some of England’s top footballers in action. If you don’t fancy the ticket prices though, Tranmere Rovers are a lower league team in Liverpool that charge less but offer a whole lot of passion. Get there for 3pm and grab your ticket for a couple of hours of rip roaring Liverpool action.

Music

The best thing to do is easily to visit the awesome Beatles Story at Albert Dock. The Fab Four are a rich vein that runs through the city and no visit would be complete without seeing this great exhibition.

Accommodation

Liverpool is a city perfectly set up for visitors. With Liverpool hotels dotted like a fine carpet of diamonds across the whole city centre you will easily find somewhere ideal for your needs. Most cheap hotels in Liverpool will offer you everything from hostel style accommodation, right the way up to the ‘5 star’ opulence of a boutique hotel. Just don’t spend too long indoors though as there is an amazing city out there for you to explore.

Heritage

The quickest way to see Liverpool’s rich heritage is just to look up as you walk around. The whole city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site so try and absorb the history as you explore.

Transfer Gossip Ahead of the Premier League Season

Ahead of every new season, we are all asking «who will our team sign»?

See what you think of my predictions:

Fernando Torres

Liverpool > Chelsea

With Liverpool now failing in all areas Fernando Torres will want to start winning trophy’s and he knows that Liverpool FC is not the place, there were rumours of a Barcelona move however that will not happen now and he would never join Real Madrid.

Chelsea are successful and looking to build on that, With Drogba and Anelka at 30-31 years old they will be moving on within the next 2 years therefore Torres will take the mantle.

Approx Fee – £40 Million

Karim Benzema

Real Madrid > Manchester United

It is well known that Sir Alex is a fan of this young Frenchman and he showed promise at Lyon however has had a tough season in Madrid, one bad season in Madrid is normally the end and I expect the same result here. Man united need striker’s with Berbatov not performing and Owen injured invariably it rests on Rooney’s shoulders.

Approx Fee – £22 Million

Cesc Fabergas

Arsenal > Barcelona

If this does happen i would be shocked, Fabergas has publicly stated his desire for the move and when that happens you cannot stop it, it would be another fantastic signing following David Villa to the Nou Camp, as it happens he would join the other Spain Internationals such as Puyol, Pique, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Villa, Pedro.

Approx Fee – £40 Million

Wesley Sneijder

Inter Milan > Chelsea

I write this article pre WC final however regardless of this fact he has had a fantastic season and a great World cup campaign, he has matured in the talent that was showing promise in his Ajax days, Scoring Goals from all angles and distances including dead ball ability he has fast become hot property.

With a host of big clubs interested such as Manchester United, City & Chelsea he will have plenty of options.

There is of course a chance that he will stay with the European champions but when money talks players often move.

Approx Fee – £35 Million

Maicon

Inter Milan > Real Madrid

What a signing this would be. In my opinion Maicon is the best right back in the world, he has everything including goals. Although he has has had league and European success i suspect he will fancy a new challenge and following his former coach to Madrid which would mean Sergio Ramos moving into central defence should the move happen.

It is a glamour move and the Spanish league is a faster pace which will suit Maicon’s game.

Approx Fee – £25 Million

Edin Dzeko

Wolfsburg > Man City

With new manager Steve Mclaren at the helm he needs to funds to change this now faltering team, starting with the sale of Edin Dzeko, the tall striker is a goalscorer in the bundesliga but for fee involved it is risky. The Premier League tends to find players out and i feel it will happen to Dzeko.

We will see.

Approx Fee – £30 Million
