Your Scrapbooking Arsenal

This article explores some of the basic tools you need in your scrapbooking arsenal. Whether you’re new to scrapbooking or a scrapbooking guru, you need to have the basics in place when starting any scrapbooking project. As with any project, without the proper tools you’re cutting yourself short and limiting your ability to properly express your creativity.

The first tool in your scrapbook quiver is, of course, the album. That’s the «book» part of «scrapbook» and serves as the foundation of your project. You’ll want to consider the size of elements to be included in your scrapbook. Are you including photographs, newspaper clippings, full size 8.5″x11″ sheets of paper? Plan accordingly by using an album that will fit your needs. 8.5×11 and 12×12 are common sizes.

Just as your album is the foundation of your scrapbook, the foundation of each page is the cardstock. Usually you will want to use white or off white colors, but depending on your style and the content of your scrapbook, you can experiment with bolder or more vibrant colors. For a book about your baby growing up, you might want to use softer pinks or light blues, for example.

Because your memories are important, you want them to last a long time. Page protectors that fit the pages of your album will help keep the oils from your fingers from directly contacting the pages and keep everything protected for years to come. Additionally, if something ever falls off of one of your pages, it will be contained within the page protector for easy recovery and quick fixes.

It seems basic, but the next thing you need is a variety of papers. Make sure the paper you use is acid free. Beyond that, let your imagination run wild. The more colors you have, the better! For background elements, you will want subtle colors that make your elements stand out. For foreground elements, you will want bright colors that do the standing out. Don’t forget to also pick up some vellum – it will add depth to your pages and give you another element in your creative quiver.

Let’s talk adhesives. You’ll need something to stick your elements to the pages of your scrapbook. Whether it be tape, glue, or something else, make sure it is acid free and non-toxic. This is based mostly on personal preference. You may like using glue sticks while someone else might prefer tape or liquid glues. There are specialty products available such as glue dots (such as Hermafix Dots or Memory Book Glue Dots) that provide a super easy way to attach elements to a page and are designed especially for scrapbooking.

Experiment with the various options to find the one that work best for you and your style of scrapbooking.

A variety of pens, colored pencils, and markers are also essential. Prismacolor makes great markers. They are a bit more expensive, but they last a long time and produce the greatest quality. Again, experiment with different writing instruments to find what works best for you, your style, and the content of your scrapbooks.

Unless you have a table you enjoy cutting into, you will need a cutting mat (we’ll get to cutting tools in a minute). Look for a «self-healing» type as these will tend to last longer than the most basic mats. Not only will these protect your table or counter top, but most mat provide built in rulers and other references to help make cutting easy.

With everything in place, it’s time to start cutting. Cutting tools are an arsenal in and of themselves. Scissors might seem like the most basic tool, but there are considerations to be made as far as quality and comfort goes. Try out the different scissors at the craft store. Usually, the nicer the scissors, the easier they will cut and the longer they will last. Fiskars is a great brand that many scrapbookers swear by. You will also want an Exacto knife for intricate cuts and working with dies.

Speaking of dies, that is our last stop and the last piece of our toolset. Dies allow you to cut specific shapes out of paper, vellum, or whatever else very quickly and easily. There are a variety of types from small handheld single-shaped dies to larger electronic die cutters that can do an endless amount of shapes. Explore your local craft store for options.

One of the favorite die cut machines among scrapbookers is the Cricut Expression. Not only can it cut a huge variety of shapes for your scrapbooks, but it can also cut vinyl lettering for a huge variety of projects not just limited to scrapbooking. It even does glass etching. Some of the other electronic die cut machines do a good job as well, but most require being hooked up to a computer adding to their complexity. The Cricut is easy enough for a child to use, but versatile enough for a creative scrapbooker!

Mario Gotze’s Golazo Deserves the FIFA Puskas Award

Football often provides us with exciting, astonishing goals. With six months until the end of the year, I think it is safe to say that the most valuable goal of 2014 is the one that gave Germany the 2014 World Cup title in Brazil. Mario Gotze, the hero in the final match in Brazil, came in as a substitute and with just minutes on the field, Mario Gotze scored the goal of his life.

The final game of the World Cup 2014 between Germans and Argentineans was a close game with very few goal opportunities. Germany was the favorite, but Argentina had the best soccer player in the planet in their squad. Nevertheless, Lionel Messi’s magic never appeared and it looked like the winner of the 2014 World Cup was going to be decided in the penalty kick shootout, but then in the 112 minute of the match, already in the second half of overtime, the magic finally happened, not from Messi, but from the 22 year old German player Mario Gotze, who received a cross from Andre Schurrle, finding Gotze, who controlled the ball with his chest, and with his left foot finished the volley to score a golazo that broke the hearts of millions in Argentina.

Mario Gotze’s golazo should be nominated to the FIFA Puskas Award.

More than 170 goals were scored through the 2014 World Cup, some of them great goals too, like James Rodriguez’ exquisite definition for Colombia in the match vs Uruguay. And how about Gervinho’s golazo a la Messi to give Ivory Coast the victory in the match vs Colombia.

Mario Gotze goal was not only valuable but also had an astonishing definition, and it should be considered for the FIFA Puskas Award. The beautiful goal meets the criteria «Aesthetically significant, or «most beautiful goal of the year» and it was scored in the most important soccer competition, The World Cup, with millions and millions watching. WOW!

The tournaments at club level are starting around the world, and I’m sure we will see many beautiful goals, perhaps more spectacular than Gotze’s goal. Maybe in the 14-15 UEFA Champions League we’ll get to watch a brilliant definition, or in the derby Barcelona vs Madrid, but in my opinion Mario Gotze’s golazo is pure gold and it will be in the memory of many for years. In Germany, the young Mario Götze will be remembered as a hero for years and years to come.

Leftbank Apartments – Location and Facilities

The city of Manchester has become the choice destination for many new settlers in the United Kingdom. London has long been the economic hub to attract investors and workers from all over Britain. However, due to the overcrowded city of London, many people are now heading towards Manchester. Manchester has been one of the most industrial towns in the Britain, and its development into a sophisticated and cosmopolitan city has been reason enough to attract settlers in this part of Britain.

When going through residential properties, you would come across the development of Leftbank Apartments, structured specifically for settlers and new dwellers in Manchester. The Leftbanck Apartments attract a lot of attention and notice from new would-be residents, primarily because of their location.

Located in the centre of Manchester city, these apartments boast a number of top-notch facilities. Central Manchester houses great shopping malls, cuisines and many bars and pubs. The night life in this part of the city is full of vigour and energy. Hence, the location of the Leftbank apartments in the core of Manchester is of no surprise.

The apartments are mostly located on the banks of rivers such as River Irwell. This makes them a prime attraction for people who are looking for scenically beautiful areas to lodge at. Moreover, the location ensures that the general hustle and bustle of life in this busy metropolitan is not such a major factor for people who prefer some peace and quietness.

All apartments are well-furnished and are well-connected with elevators. To get to your desired shopping mall or some gym, all you have to do is to take the elevator and walk on. This is another reason why the Leftbank apartments are so popular among new settlers.

Another reason for their popularity is that the prices of these apartments are inclusive of electricity rates, towels and linens. Hence, you do not have to worry about paying for all these things individually, rather as a small chunk of the price you pay for the entire apartment. The rents are quite nominal, when compared with other residential areas, and you can get the apartments on a daily, weekly or monthly basis on rent, the way it best suits you.

The spacious parking lots work in the favour of these apartments as well. Other residential areas have congested parking lots due to smaller construction area; however, at Leftbank, you get good parking space for your vehicle. It is also well-secured and, thus, you do not have to worry about car theft when parking your car.

Also, apart from the above mentioned factors, another great thing about these apartments is their 24/7 reception. The Leftbank administration also provides its residents with a facilitation centre that allows them to arrange their trips etc. Moreover, the apartment complex has huge swimming pools, hair saloons for both ladies and gents among other things. It is definitely a residential feat to be able to construct something like the Leftbank apartments and at such reasonable rent per month.

Denis Law Was the King of Stretford End

The great Denis Law was born in Aberdeen on the 24th February 1940 and he began his soccer career as a wee boy playing for Aberdeen Lads Club. When Law left the Granite City to join the once great Huddersfield Town, he was only 15 years old and and it didn't take him long to make his debut for his native Scotland against Wales in 1958.

The legendary Sir Matt Busby reputedly wanted the promising Denis Law to play for Manchester United but was turned down by the Terriers. Bill Shankly, who was the manager at Huddersfield Town at the time, then tried to take Law with him to Liverpool. However, the Liverpudlians didn´t have the money to take the prolific marksman out of Yorkshire. Instead, the vastly talented Leeds Road youngster went to Manchester City when the Maine Road club paid a then British record transfer fee of £ 55,000 for him in March 1960. After a rather disappointing spell with famous Italian club Turin, he returned to Lancashire finally signing up for Busby´s Manchester United in 1962. Denis Law opened the 1963-64 season on a bright note and was deservedly picked out to play for a Rest of the World side against England at Wembley. As a Manchester United player, the Scottish international won every major domestic honor, although injury kept him out of the European Cup Final against Benfica at Wembley in 1968.

Denis Law returned to his old club Manchester City in 1973, and retired from football in 1974 after playing his last match in the World Cup in West Germany. During his 585 matches for his clubs, he managed to score a massive 300 goals. He also scored a total of 30 goals for Scotland in 55 matches. In 1964, Law was voted European Footballer of the Year as the only Scotsman to this day. Always in the best of spirits, Denis Law was no doubt one of the greatest entertainers ever witnessed on the British soccer scene. He was not only a Danny Kaye look alike, he also closely resembled the American comedian when performing some of his antics on and off the football pitch.
