Amazing Xavier!

Some of you are wondering who is this Xavier person that is on this title. Well, if you are a fan of amateur boxing, then you know who exactly I am talking about. Who I am talking about is an excellent amateur who goes by Xavier Montelongo Jr. This little prospect is a fifteen time national champion from East L.A., California.

Let me tell you. After seeing some of this kid’s tapes, you will already know that he has it in him to become an elite boxer for the years to come. He is very mature in the ring, as if he were a boxer going into his prime. Everything that Montelongo has in his arsenal just flows like water. He is very calm in the ring, he waits for counter shots, and his ring ring intelligence is just amazing at just sixteen years of age.

Xavier Montelongo has been born under Christianity. As you see in his amateur fights, after he wins, he raises up his hand and points to his lord and savior. He is always mentioning that without his lord, Jesus Christ, he would not be in the place that he is in right now. «My main goal is to make the 2012 Olympics, then to turn pro. Hopefully, with all the fame that this sport will bring to me, I will be able to preach the word,» stated Monelongo.

Well, we all hope that he will accomplish his dreams. He has his God given gift. And that is being one of the smartest amateur boxers.

Postdoctoral Positions

A postdoctoral position is a job that is usually taken up after one completes a PhD that could last anything between 3 to 5 years. The position is usually referred as a postdoc position and is often termed as postdocing. The «postdocing» phrase is usually deemed derogatory as it refers to something of a low paid job as soon as one completes a PhD. The position is a temporary one ranging from a few months to 5 years. The length of the tenure is dependent on the type of funding the university has obtained through the group leader and investigator.

The postdoctoral research position could either be within the same lab and the department where the PhD student has completed their PhD or could be elsewhere. Some graduates prefer to remain within the department as they have become familiar with the surroundings while others prefer to obtain a position in a completely different country. The main purpose of doing a postdoctoral job is to get training in an area of research that is complementary to the researcher’s interest. For example, if one as completed a PhD in cell biology and the new graduate could either consider research involving Stem Cells.

Postdoctoral positions are denoted in several terms, for example; a new graduate if offered a post within the university then they are referred to as a postdoctoral assistant. Other names include postdoctoral associate or a fellowship; however they mean the same thing.

This role of research assistant/associate/fellow is to carry out research in a lab and at the same time publish papers, carry out basic lab management duties, supervise PhD students, present their work at internal and international seminars and assist the supervisor/mentor in writing grant applications. The supervisor is often called principal investigator as he/she is responsible for maintaining the group of staff and students, obtaining finance for running the group and other issues relating to the organization of the research.

A successful postdoc would will then obtain a grant of their own from various funding agencies and become a lecturer.

Chelsea Boots for Motorcyclists

Riding a motorcycle requires over-the-ankle protection. Most motorcycle boots are designed for that in mind, leaving little room for fashion. Chelsea boots are a stylish boot that have been a must for men’s wardrobes since the 1960s and they provide the protection a biker requires whether he cruises on a sport bike or a motor scooter.

Whether black, brown, or suede, Chelsea boots are ankle length and easy to slip into. Their elasticized sides provide both comfort and support. Most people don’t think of them and motorcycling in the same sentence, but bikers who commute to work or are venturing out for a night on the town know they need something more versatile than a clunky motorcycle boot. That’s where this iconic footwear comes into play.

Expertly constructed of durable, quality leather, a boot can withstand the wear and tear of riding while looking good. When a man parks his bike and takes off his helmet, he can be assured that his feet impress as much as his mode of transportation. His sense of style is intact and the impression that Chelsea boots make is as forceful as that of his ride.

Heaven forbid a motorcyclist meets a mishap on the road. If it happens though, he can rest assured that the high cut of his boots will protect the bones of his feet and ankles. Chelsea boots are not just comfortable for walking around. They are serviceable footwear, rugged enough for any weather and any situation. Handmade, as they always have been, Chelsea boots look good on the road, at a pitstop, in the office, and relaxed on the rail under a bar stool.

Men who adventure on the wilder side of the road put their faith in boots. They are boots fit for wherever a motorcyclist finds himself, whether it is straddling a humming engine or seated at a cafe enjoying a glass of wine with the bike parked nearby. How a man travels through the world is important, be it on two wheels or two feet. A man’s gear says a lot about him.

The Football Fan – Passion For the Game and For Their Colours

There is no more passionate a supporter about their own sport than the football fan. Their interest stems from their club’s great past history, including the ground, the players, managers right through to the trophies that the club has won.

One main collectors item for any self respecting supporter is the team football jersey. As soon as a new shirt design is made available we are all keen to get our hands on it, we impatiently wait for the unveiling of the new club kit each new season.

There are many supporters who collect all types of football shirts and not just from their favourite club. Some look to wear or collect retro shirts that were worn by their club in past seasons. Most English football clubs have a certain style of shirt maybe from the 60’s or 70’s take the Crystal Palace shirt of the 70’s that is recognised worldwide.

Fanatical supporters go into even greater detail recalling the type of shirt that was worn by the winners of the last tournament be it the World Cup, European Cup Champions League Finals or the League Championship. These jerseys can even become a valuable collectors item.

Past historic shirts come to mind like the England strip from Admiral that was worn by the likes of Kevin Keegan and Glen Hoodle with it’s horizontal red, white and blue colours at the top of the shirt. And who can forget THE famous red World Cup winning shirt from 1966 Final.

Club shirts that I remember well are the Birmingham City shirt, blue with the white stripe vertically through the middle. The famous Arsenal shirts red with white sleeves. (my subbuteo team shirts). Even the yellow arsenal shirts famously worn in the FA Cup finals of 1970-71 and 1978-79 seasons.

New modern shirts have little to compare with the early days of football. Today’s latest technology enable manufacturers to produce fantastic creations from different type fabrics to the type of colours used stripes fading from on side to the other, completely different to the old traditional rugged football jerseys.

The enthusiasm spreads all around the world for football shirts. You can find all types of websites on-line discussing a wide variety of topics to do with their favourite club or countries colours, whether it be today’s club sponsors or about collectible shirts of the past, there are many on-line forums that could keep you busy for hours at a time.

Boots, socks and the shorts are all an integral parts of the football kit itself but the item that gets the most attention is the Football Shirt – The main symbol of the club.

British Local Radio Has Been Far Behind That in America

In America local radio is often broadcast to very small communities, sometimes the smaller the better. In the UK this is not the case and the areas covered tend to be much larger. I got to wondering why the Britain never really developed in the same way.

First of all though, wireless in the UK did indeed start out in the early 1920s as local radio with the first areas being Newcastle, Manchester and Birmingham. Lots of cities opened up stations but in a fairly short time they were closed and the BBC was set up as a national broadcasting station broadcasting from London.

In the 1960s Frank Gillard, who had been a well known war correspondent, started a movement to get local radio back onto the airwaves in the UK. He had been to the USA and was impressed with some of the ideas that he had seen there although his vision was more to provide a topical local news and sport variety rather than the music stations which were profligate there.

Around the same time, partly because of the technological advances which allowed for a larger range of frequencies to be available, there were a number of pirate radio stations operating from ships off the shores of the UK. These were more local by their very nature but the BBC did see them as a major threat. Although there was a great deal of reluctance from the BBC hierarchy, BBC local radio started with Radio Leicester on November 8th 1967.

It was not a full on station and only broadcast for a few hours each day. Very early on there were floods in the city centre and the local radio station provided a tremendous service in keeping the local inhabitants up to date with what was happening.

The British Broadcasting Corporation by its very name is a broadcaster and it has always stuck with the values of providing a broad range of subjects to its listeners. Over the last few years a number if independent local radio (ILR) stations have sprung up. They have gone much more down the narrowcasting route.

They tend to provide a more specific range of programs for their audience. This may be in the area of sport, music, politics or whatever.

Very soon the number of stations will increase dramatically. Digital radio has provided the opportunity of many more stations. I am sure that the future will see many stations in each big city and a number covering smaller rural areas throughout the UK. Perhaps each soccer team will have its local station, each orchestra likewise. In this way Britain will be closing the gap up with America.

Sir Matt Busby – The Godfather of Manchester United

Sir Matt Busby was the manager at Manchester United from 1945 to 1969, taking the club to both League and Cup honours during his long and distinguished career at Old Trafford.

Sir Matt Busby took over the reins at Manchester United in October 1945, although his contract had been signed the previous February. From the moment the 35-year-old demobilized company sergeant-major arrived at the club things would never be the same again. The former Manchester City and Liverpool player immediately put his mark on the club and he demanded powers over the appointment of personnel and the buying and selling of players. Busby’s socialism no doubt transformed Manchester United into one of the giants of English football and during his first three years in charge the club finished First Division runners-up three times in a row as well as winning the FA Cup in 1948.

In 1958 tragedy struck when a British European Airways Elizabethan plane hit Munich Airport’s perimeter fence during its third attempt at take-off. After winning the Championship in 1952, 1956 and 1957, Busby’s immensly gifted Manchester United side were tragically destroyed. However, the legendary manager continued his search for the Holy grail and he will always be remembered for the European Cup Final in 1968 when Manchester United went on to trash Benfica 4-1. The memorable victory at Wembley Stadium was fully recognised as the long serving manager was most deservedly knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List shortly after.

When Sir Matt died on the 20th of January 1994, a vast amount of dedicated Manchester United supporters turned out to pay their last respects to the Scottish manager. On the 27th of April 1996, Manchester United Football Club unveiled a bronze statue at the Scoreboard End of Old Trafford in honour of the great man who was simply known as Mr. Manchester United. Sir Matt Busby had a second spell as Old Trafford manager during the 1970-71 season and he continued to be involved with the club for several years after his retirement.

«Resting in Interlaken, Germany was one thing and facing Old Trafford another. When I approached the ground and moved over the bridge along which our supporters had squeezed fifty abreast in there tens of thousands to shout for us I could scarcely bear to look. I knew the ghosts of the babes would still be there, and there they are still, and they will always be there as long as those who saw them still cross the bridge, young, gay, red ghosts on the green grass of Old Trafford.»

Sir Matt Busby quote.
