Lessons Learned From the Movie Captain Ron

Tonight I watched the movie Captain Ron again (for about the 10th time in the last 12 months) — and let my daughter Chelsea watch it for the first time. I decided the story made up for the language and the slightly inappropriate shower scene. Partly because Chelsea’s now 14, and partly because the shower scene is just darn good comedy.

The story of Captain Ron is so freaking awesome: the Harvey family of Chicago inherits an old sailboat and decides to throw caution to the wind and sail it from somewhere in the Caribbean to Miami where they will sell it. Since they’re not sailors, they hire «Captain Ron» to sail the boat and teach them how along the way.

The movie stars Martin Short as Mr. Harvey and Kurt Russell (in a Speedo) as Captain Ron. It’s a funny movie with a great moral: Get out of your rut and go DO something as a family!

When my family started this whole «living on the road thing» I hoped to be in a trailer for about a year and then graduate to a sailboat. Due to business slowing down the sailboat piggy bank hasn’t filled up yet, but I’m still working toward that.

I’m starting to feel more than a little pressure because my son Tom turned 16 last February and while I don’t know that he’ll take off as soon as he turns 18, I want to get us on a boat for a while before he is eligible to escape my clutches.

Why? Because I think people who have «typical» upbringings are at a disadvantage in life. They see things in a very narrow way which limits their choices. After all, how can you make a sharp left when everybody else is veering right if you don’t even know that left is an option?

When we started this journey we didn’t have enough money saved up. But if we had waited until things were «better» we’d never have hit the road and experienced new things…

Places

We played on the beach in Santa Cruz.

Picked oranges outside our trailer in Bakersfield.

Walked the rim of the Grand Canyon (and got some great photos).

Watched the moon rise over the Superstition Mountains (and talked about the Lost Dutchman Gold Mine hidden there).

Wandered the streets of Tombstone where the Gunfight at the OK Corral took place.

Cheered Tom as he followed in his Uncle Nick’s footsteps and chased down an armadillo (it was catch and release, folks).

Saw the Alamo where so many American heroes lost their lives.

Visited the UFO Museum in Roswell. («UFOs aren’t real, Dad.» Five minutes later, «Are UFOs real, Dad?»)

Drove across the London Bridge (brought brick by brick from London to Arizona).

People

And we met some wonderful people on the trip, including the Sauers family in Santa Nella. We ended up parked next to each other in an RV park and while there was a pretty big age gap between their kids and ours, they were still all kids and got along pretty well. After we left we continued following their travels via their blog.

And we met — and juggled with — both members of the Raspyni Brothers. Barry invited us to his house for the day to meet his family and play and Dan let us stop by his place for some juggling and an impromptu piano concert. I’d been fans of the Raspyni Bros for-freakin’-ever, so the chance to actually spend some time with them was the coolness.

Plus many more people — the families in Bastrop, the gunfighters near Tombstone, the jugglers in Austin, etc.

When you live in a house, and go to the same job every day, and see the same people all the time, you don’t have adventures. You just skate through life. And at age 47 I’m realizing life’s too short for that kind of skating — I regret the time I didn’t spend seeing new things and meeting new people.

Which is why if we had the opportunity to move onto a sailboat tomorrow, I’d do it — even though none of us know how to sail. We’d stay anchored (mostly) until we could figure out how to work the thing, but at least we’d be on the way.

I don’t see any reason to «settle down» at this point — there are too many things to see, places to visit and people to meet. How could you trade those things for a house fastened to the ground?

David Beckham

David Beckham, born David Robert Joseph Beckham, was born on May 2, 1975, in Leytonstone, London, England. His parents were Ted Beckham, a kitchen fitter, and Sandra West, a hairdresser. His parents, big fans of Manchester United, reputably the most popular football team in the world, may have had quite a bit of influence on the talented man during his early years.

He attended Bobby Charlton's football school in Manchester, where he won a spot in a training session at FC Barcelona when he was a boy. At the age of 11, he was Manchester United's mascot for a match against West Ham United. He was captain of the English national team from 2000 to 2006, and he played midfield for clubs in Manchester, England, and Madrid. Last year, he began to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy team, which began July 1 and is expected to last for five years.

While he was with Manchester United, he helped them win the Premier League. He is married to Victoria Beckham, better known as Posh Spice (of the group, the Spice Girls), with whom he has had three sons: Brooklyn Joseph (named after the city where Victoria found out she was pregnant with him), who was born in 1999, Romeo James, who was born in 2002, and Cruz David (who was named in honor of the family friend, Tom Cruise), who was born in 2005.

David Beckham is not just a prestigious football player; his name is also an elite advertising brand known all over the world. Though his resume is not as long or as star-studded as some other famous football players, he is still one of the most popular in the world today.

As can be seen in any iconic athlete, David Beckham is a prime example of a role model for teenagers and young football players all over the world. Let's hope he can live up to those standards.

Brad Thorn: A Tribute

What can be said of this man and his career that hasn’t been already? His commitment and passion towards both rugby union and rugby league is something that can be admired and respected by all, and should serve as a benchmark, albeit a very high one, that any professional sporting player should strive to achieve. You have to admit that if you reached for Brad Thorn and only just missed, you’ve still done pretty well.

His first stint at the Brisbane Broncos is immediately note-worthy, not just for his own personal achievements but the speed in which they were achieved. The 94 season, in which he debuted in week twelve, saw him take out the rookie of the year award with representative honors for Queensland and Australia to follow within the next three years. The 97 grand final would be Thorn’s first taste of premiership glory, one he would experience the following year and then again in 2000.

After achieving success at every level in rugby league, Thorn turned his attention to the ruthless and unforgiving world of New Zealand rugby. Someone of lesser talent and determination may have stumbled in this new, harsh environment but he barely missed a beat. The Canterbury Crusaders took out the NPC with Thorn slipping, almost effortlessly, into the position of lock forward. A chance to become the first man since Bill Hardcastle to represent Australia in rugby league and New Zealand in rugby union was offered to him at seasons end, but he turned it down citing his uncertainty of his commitment to the fifteen man game. But, come 2003, he could resist the temptation no longer and made his official debut for the All Blacks in the Rugby World Cup and continued to represent them in the Tri-Nations which New Zealand would go on to win.

A final NPC with Canterbury would see Thorn return once again to the Broncos in 2005. While many expected to see the champion forward in the twilight of his career, nothing would seem further from the truth. He would go on to not only represent Queensland but also take out another premiership in 2006. After being named one of the 20 greatest Broncos to ever play for the club, he made the decision to, once again, switch back to rugby union.

Thorn was again in unstoppable form, achieving Crusader and All Black selection in only his second year back in the game. After more super 14 titles and Tri-Nations success he finally reached the holy grail of rugby by taking out the World Cup after a hard fought 8-7 win over France in 2011. As if this wasn’t enough, a short stint with European champions Leinster would see him add the Heineken Cup to his long list of achievements.

When you want to describe a man like Brad Thorn any number of superlatives will do. But to fully understand just how remarkable this career is, you must first realize that it hasn’t even finished yet. That is correct, at age 37 Thorn has signed on with Super Rugby franchise the Highlanders for the 2013 season. For myself, it seems almost certain that this will be his swan song but for some reason a lingering doubt remains. I guess with someone like Brad Thorn, can you ever be sure of anything?

Divorce – 5 Financial Steps To Take BEFORE Getting A Divorce

Marriage is defined as «the state of being united as spouses in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law». When two people enter into a marriage the expectations are that it will last for the rest of their lifetimes, for better or worse, until death do them part. However, some marriages – as hard as people may try – don’t always last a lifetime.

A marriage may result in separating ways and end in divorce regardless of how hard one or both parties try to make it work. This can be a giant roller coaster of emotions. With everything going on there is one extremely important thing many people neglect to think about… YOU. If you find yourself going through a divorce you need to look out for yourself and your financial independence. Too often we see a separating spouse blindsided by certain financial realities. Take a look at these 5 steps BEFORE getting a divorce to ensure you are looking out for your own interest before the divorce finalizes.

1. Audit your current financial situation

Divorces can be unexpected and abrupt. They can also be prolonged and only come to fruition when a step is finally taken to formalize it. Regardless of sudden or more prolonged, there is an urgency with awareness of your current financial situation as a married couple.

With some couples, one person handles the finances more than the other person. While this is not recommended, it does inevitably happen. And in some cases of couples separating we see females who are left in the dark about the financial state of the two as a couple. Whether it be because the husband assumed the role or the wife is staying home with the kids, it is more common for the woman to be less aware of the couple’s financial state. However, this can undoubtedly go both ways and both should take this step into consideration regardless of which role.

This is something you need to protect yourself from. If you know that a divorce is coming, you will be initiating a divorce soon or you just had the bomb dropped that your husband or wife wants a divorce, take this step with extreme urgency. Print out or make copies of bank, brokerage and retirement statements, credit card statements, trusts, or joint investments. Have hard copy evidence of any and all of assets of the marriage.

Why do this?

The hope is that the divorce will be an amicable one, however, when emotions run high, one party may do something out of spite. We’ve seen instances of a spouse trying to shield assets from the other, change account authorizations to restrict the other spouses access, or hide any information that would benefit them-self to do so in the event of a divorce.

So how do you combat this? First start with educating yourself on your current financial situation. If you have a financial advisor you trust, set an appointment with them. If you want to consider a different financial advisor that is independent of your spouse, make an appointment accordingly.

Be aware of any outstanding debt there may be. Sometimes one side of the couple is blissfully unaware of the amount of debt their spouse is racking up while they are still married. This can come out when the divorce is in process and may leave both spouses responsible for the debt regardless of who created it.

Its far too important to be prepared with documentation in case your spouse decides to try and change log-in information etc. preventing you from getting access to these records later on. Do this with urgency to protect yourself and take control of your financial independence.

2. Establish your own credit

In the event that a couple shares credit card accounts, it may be likely that the account is held in one person’s name while the spouse has authorized access to use the credit card. You may be unaware that the account is held solely in your spouses name. This information will need to be figured out because simply having your name on a credit card does not mean that you are establishing any credit. Typically we’ve seen this with a spouse who does not currently work. They have a credit card under the working spouse’s account because of this.

Why do this?

When a divorce occurs, this becomes important. Having a credit card in your own name helps build your credit. You will be better able to be approved for a new mortgage, based on your own qualifications, if you decide you want to purchase a home on your own, or any loan that you may need. This should be done before the divorce proceedings happen. Especially if your spouse earns significantly more than you do or if you didn’t have an income while married. It is a lot easier to get approved for one while still married with a joint income. Also, a credit card can help with the day-to-day expenditures when you’re still figuring everything out in the divorce settlement.

3. Review and revise beneficiaries, wills, health proxy, power of attorneys and other estate plans

When two people get married, it is not uncommon for them to make each other their beneficiary, health proxy, power of attorney, executor etc. When you’re married, you want your spouse to be the beneficiary and you believe they will carry your wishes out should something happen to you. This changes when a divorce occurs and should be looked at carefully.

Why Do This?

When you know you’ll be separating ways it is best to review and revise these. Change each of them to reflect the current situation. You may want to consider using a family member of your own or children if any are of age to do so. It is best to review them with a trusted individual and most financial advisors would be willing to help you with this process.

4. Adjust your budget for your new financial independence

Many married couples have two incomes coming into the household. You get used to spending at a certain level without feeling any financial pressure. This level is typically more than you would be spending when you were single and operating on your own salary. When you are entering into a divorce, it’s time to adjust your budget and become acutely aware of where your money is going. To do this, start by taking an objective look at what your new budget will be. Look at the expenses that are necessary and then look at ones that you would be able to eliminate. Create a new budget you can commit to on your own.

Why do This?

All too often we see a recently divorced woman or man trying to live the same lifestyle as they did when married. It can be a harsh reality when they realize this can no longer happen. Any reduction in income takes some time to get used to. You may have to sacrifice shopping trips, golf outings, getting your nails done, or other luxuries you were able to comfortably afford as a married couple. Understand that life is changing. Doing this step will help you find your new financial independence and put you in the best position for your financial future.

5. Surround yourself with those who will support you

Going through a divorce most likely won’t be cut and dry. Any situation that involves emotions from 2 or more parties makes it difficult. Sometimes divorces are sudden… and some times it is a long time coming. No matter how the divorce has transpired, it is extremely important to surround yourself with people who support you. Especially in a time where a lot of decisions will need to be made.

Why do this?

You need to surround yourself with those concerned with your best interests. Divorces can hold feelings of resentment or distaste towards the other spouse. When emotions are all over, people may do things that they wouldn’t normally do, out of spite. Have the support behind you to make sure you stick up for yourself but also be there to tell you when it’s best to put your pride aside and come to an agreement.

In Conclusion:

Going through a divorce can be an emotional and even traumatic event. Just remember, it doesn’t define who you are. You WILL make it through this and your life WILL move on. Be mindful to protect yourself in the process and be confident that you can start again with new financial independence! Consider each of these 5 steps to take when getting divorced. Hold your support system close and don’t be afraid to call in some professional advice.

Most financial advisors will be able to guide you through this process and help you make good decisions that are in your best interest. If you are from Buffalo or Western New York, we would be happy to review your situation and offer suggestions. Call us at 716-662-4470 to schedule your free consultation.

Physical Therapy and Recovery

If you play sports or other physical activities, then you know that injuries come with the territory. Depending on the type of injury and the extent of your injury, you may need physical therapy. Physical therapy is the process of rehabilitation and recovery from your injury or physical ailment. Physical therapy works on recovery of your musculoskeletal system. Massage therapy is used as part of the recovery process. Some of the more advanced therapy clinics are starting to use massage chair recliners as part of their arsenal of tools to help people recover from their injuries.

If you start a physical therapy program, then you will be assigned a physical therapist. The therapist is a trained professional to help restore your strength, motion and activity. The therapist understands the mechanics of your body and will help design a treatment program for you. You will learn specific stretches, exercises and other specialized techniques to help your body recover. You may also use specific equipment that can address particular issues. Massage therapy has become an important tool in the recovery arsenal and many clinics are making use of massage chair recliners.

Your therapist is trained in different surgeries, treatments and rehabilitation techniques and goals. The therapist will design a recovery treatment targeting the areas of your body that needs greater flexibility or strength. If you are recovering from surgery, then the therapist will be knowledgeable about different surgical procedures. The therapist will help in setting goals as you work through the initial limitations of your physique. Some of the important physical therapy tools are stretching, exercises and massage therapy.

Stretching is important to help regain lost flexibility. The muscles may be tight, the joints stiff and you may have scar tissue. These reduce your range of motion and decrease flexibility. Stretching helps to elongate the muscles. This helps to stretch the muscles helping their elasticity. A frequent and continuous regimen of daily stretching helps to speed recovery. Your therapist will design a stretching routine which will help focus on restoring the range of motion.

Exercises are important to help rebuild strength. When we have an injury, we tend to protect that area. Protecting that area is usually to isolate and immobilize it. In other words, we tend not to use the injured area. This helps to prevent further injury, but at the expense of strength and conditioning. To help rebuild the body, exercises help to build up strength, endurance and agility. Physical therapy clinics have a wide array of exercise equipment from treadmills, stationary bikes, weights and more. These help you focus building up a particular set of muscles.

Massage therapy is important to assist the total healing process. The muscle tissue breaks down and its fibers become shorter. This makes the muscles tighter. Massage therapy starts where stretching leaves off. Massage therapy helps to penetrate deeper into the muscle tissue to help elongate and invigorate the muscles. This helps the healing process by restoring flexibility throughout the muscle and scar tissue. Massage is given either by a massage therapist or a massage chair. Massage chairs come with a variety of therapeutic massages, heat therapies and even traction. These not only provide effective therapy but also help you to relax and clear your mind.

Whether you are a professional tennis player or a beginner skier, injuries can happen to anyone. If you do find yourself in physical therapy, work on setting goals to recover. Find yourself an excellent physical therapy clinic. Make sure they have qualified people, proper exercise equipment and massage therapy. And if you need massage therapy, make sure a massage chair is part of your recovery plans.

Southport: One of England's Best Kept Secrets

Luxury relaxation, high class hotel accommodations, serene landscaping and high end shopping locales are only a taste of what your vacation has in store for you when you travel to the unique town of Southport.

Southport is one of the best kept secrets in England. It's a beautiful and quaint seaside town tucked in Merseyside, England. Just north of Liverpool, this lush area is laden with trees and exquisite landscaping. It also boasts a breathtaking atmosphere full of elaborate Victorian architecture and a prime example of elegant town planning.

There are so many amazing sites in Southport, it's no surprise that it's one of England's most noteworthy and reputable tourist venues. Southport is riddled with town attractions such as the Southport Pier which is the second longest seaside pleasure pier in the British Isles, its deluxe shopping on Lord Street, not to mention the elegant tree-lined shopping street that was once the home of Napoleon III of France.

Southport has a population of just under 100, 000 and is one of the twelfth largest settlements in North West England.

Historically a part of Lancashire, the Southport was founded in 1792 when a hotel was built at what is currently the south end of Lord Street. At that time the area was sparsely populated and was dominated by sand dunes. During the turn of the 19th century Southport became popular with tourists due to the easy and convenient access from the nearby Leeds and Liverpool Canal. The town grew quickly with the rapid growth coinciding with the Industrial Revolution and the Victorian era.

Southport is located on the Irish Seacoast of North West England. The town lies conveniently to the north of the well known city of Liverpool and west of the city of Preston. Extensive sand dunes stretch for several miles to the south of town. The Ainsdales and dunes have been designated as a National Nature Reserve in England, making it a serene site for relaxation and beautiful pictures.

Southport today is still one of the most popular seaside resorts in the United Kingdom. It is well known for hosting a variety of events including an annual air show, and the largest independent flower show in the UK. The town is at the center of England's Golf Coast and has hosted The Open Championship at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club in the past.

One of the most sought after perks of a trip to Southport is walk through the popular Hesketh Park. This gorgeous amenity is a public park situated near the north end of Lord Street in the Victorian seaside town. Rich in history itself, the land Hesketh Park occupies was once sand dunes and beach. As the tides receded and the town of Southport grew, the need for a park was proposed. At the time, the land was owned by Rev Charles Hesketh.

He generously donated the land for use as a public park. Hesketh Park was originally designed as a public park in the mid-19th century by Edward Kemp, and was further developed in the 20th century. The land has many Victorian features and landscape designs and is a breathtaking addition to the sand dunes and otherwise seaside atmosphere in Southport.

Southport is rich with culture, history and beauty. It is the prime vacation spot for your England excursion.

The History of Aintree Racecourse

Aintree Racecourse is one of the most famous racecourses in the world and is located on the A59 at Ormskirk Road, Aintree (Anglo-Saxon for 'one tree'), in the northern suburbs of Liverpool, just 6 miles from the city center.

The racecourse occupies more than 250 acres and has two left-handed chasing circuits. The rectangular Mildmay Course is the first and was opened in 1953. It is nearly one and a half miles in length, with sharp turns and steeplechase fences.

The Grand National course isn't as sharp as the Mildmay course but is much more demanding which is why it is known as one of the toughest races in the world, one which all horse trainers aspire to gain entry to. The Grand National course is far longer than the Mildmay, at almost two and a quarter miles, and is completely flat, with fences that have a drop on the landing side lower than the take-off side.

William Lynn is the man responsible for bringing racing to the village of Aintree. Lynn was the landlord of the Waterloo Hotel and started racing on the land which he leased from the Earl of Sefton. He started to build the grand stand in 1829 and after five months the first meeting for flat races was held.

Hurdle racing didn't begin until 1836, when the first Liverpool Grand Steeplechase was held at Aintree on February 29th. This race is considered by some as being the first ever Grand National and was won by The Duke, ridden by Captain Martin Becher.

However, the more documented Liverpool Grand Steeplechase of 1839 is more commonly identified as the first Grand National, and was won by Lottery, ridden by Jem Mason. The race of 1839 was a four miler, across country, and the rule was that 'no rider to open a gate or ride through a gateway, or more than 100 yards along any road, footpath or driftway'.

The racecourse was handed over to the War Office in 1915, and after the 1940 National it was again requisitioned by the military. Racing resumed in 1946 and in 1949 the racecourse was bought by Messrs Topham Ltd; who had leased the land for almost a century; from the Earl of Sefton for £ 275,000. Mirabel Topham, an enterprising soul, went on to create the Mildmay course and a motor-racing circuit which held the European Grand Prix and five British Grand Prix.

Bill Davies bought the racecourse in 1973 for £ 3 million and in 1975 Ladbrokes saved the Grand National, which was in danger of dying out, by managing and administering it for seven years at a yearly rent of £ 250,000. In 1983 the racecourse was deemed secure when the Jockey Club bought it.

Aintree has come a long way from the days when it could only be accessed by rail or paddle boat. Now, improved rail and network links means that fans can travel by any means to reach the wonderful racecourse. There is even a six acre enclosure for landing by helicopter on site or the alternative option of John Lennon airport twenty minutes drive away, meaning that those both home and abroad can come share in the magnificent Aintree festivities.

African Football: A Chronology Of Tragedies On And Off The Field Of Play

Professional football as a competitive sport has had its unfair share of tragedies over the years. Apart from tragedies on the field of play, spectators have not been spared also.

Africa’s darkest day in soccer, perhaps remains the plane crash of April 27, 1993, when 18 members of the Zambian national team and 12 technical and crew members perished when their plane plunged into the sea off the coast of Gabon.

Tragedy cuts across continents, and that fact was confirmed during a League match between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirate. A stampede at Ellis Park stadium in Johannesburg resulted in the deaths of 43 people, the worst disaster in South Africa’s sporting history.

Africa again witnessed another sporting tragedy when a local League match between Lupopo and TP Mazembe on the 30th of April 2001, led to the death of 14 people during a stampede following crowd trouble at a major league match at city of Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Nigerian sporting family witnessed one of the most horrific football tragedies on the 23rd of December 2008, when nine female amateur footballers and two coaches were burnt to death in an auto crash on their way from Jos, Plateau state.

The tears of sorrow had hardly dried up, when 15 members of an amateur team, F.C Jimeta from Adamawa state, Nigeria, died in another auto crash on the 26th of January 2009.

Twelve of the dead were players, while the remaining three were trainers.

Severe heat and overcrowding resulted in the death of 4 football fans at a Ghanaian League match between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oaks in Kumasi on Sunday 8th February, 2009.

On the 21st of February 2009, 13 Football supporters of Nigeria Premier League side Ocean Boys F.C of Yenegoa were killed by persons suspected to be cultist, on their way to attending a premier league match involving their team and Bayelsa United at the Ughelli Township Stadium in Delta State, Nigeria.

Tragedy struck at the Stade Felix Houphout-Boigny stadium in Abidjan, when Cote d’ivoire played host to Malawi, as 22 football fans were crushed to death when a fence collapsed as they tried to gain entry into the already jammed packed stadium, during a 2010 World Cup Qualifier.

Footballers are not also spared of these tragedies, which oftentimes occur either on or off the field of play.

Below is a list of African footballers who have died on the field of play.

  • Samuel Okwaraji(Nigeria)- died of heart attack on August 12, 1989
  • Amir Angwe(Nigeria)- died of heart attack on October 29, 1995
  • George Iginewari(Nigeria)- died of gunshot wound in 1995
  • Tunde Charity(Nigeria)- died of head injury in 1997
  • Emmanuel Nwanegbo(Nigeria)- died of heart failure on August 30, 1997
  • Shamo Quaye(Ghana)- died while training with team on November 30, 1997
  • John Ikoroma(Nigeria)- died of heart attack on February 2000
  • Charles Esheko(Nigeria)- died of cardiac arrest on July 14, 2001
  • Marc-Vivien Fo(Cameroon)- died of heart attack on June 26, 2003

  • Guy Tchingoma(Congo DR)- died of heart related ailment on February 9, 2009
  • George Katete(Congo DR)- died of heart attack on March 5th 2009
  • Orobosa Adun(Nigeria)- slumped and died on May 26, 2009
  • Endurance Idahor(Nigeria)- died of attack on March 13, 2010

Chijioke Ejiogu: Complete Profile of Arugo Monkey

Goalkeeper Chijioke Ejiogu is the number one goal tender for Double CAF Champions league winners- Enyimba Football club of Aba. He is one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Nigeria Premier league. His dexterity between the goalpost while playing for amateur side- Arugo F.C in the late 1990’s during the F.A Cup Competition have earned him the nickname- Arugo Monkey.

Monkeys are one of the most acrobatic animals in the jungle, and they have the ability to jump from one tree to the other with so much ease and skill. These were the exact qualities that Chijioke Ejiogu displayed during the F.A Cup competition more than 15 years ago while starring for Arugo F.C.

He was quickly snapped up by Julius Berger F.C of Lagos immediately after his F.A Cup heroics, and helped the Bridge Boys to the final of the CAF Confederation Cup. His agility behind the post was soon noticed by the management of Enyimba F.C and he soon put pen to paper for the peoples Elephant in the 2008-2009 season.

The confidence he displays in organizing his defence line is quite amazing, considering the fact that football has become so competitive and tactical. One of the qualities that distinguish a good goalkeeper from a bad one is the ability to anticipate and deal with aerial balls and this is one of the strong points of Chijioke Ejiogu.

He has been invited to the national senior team on several occasions during the reign of Coach Christian Chukwu as Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, but on each occasion, luck has not been on his side. The desire to excel in the local league to enhance future call-ups has always been his main motivation, and this has seen him emerging as one of the stars in the star-studded Enyimba Football club.

Arugo Monkey has become a veteran of sort in the Nigeria Premier league and with each passing season, he has shown more maturity and better composure between the posts to the admiration of his fans all over the country. His acrobatic saves and daring maneuvers in front of strikers have earned him a place among the best Local league players.

It is hoped that the coming years will witness a change in the fortune of this charismatic goalkeeper who has paid his dues in the Nigeria Premier league in the past 10 years. His chances of putting on the green white green colors of the Super Eagles have been made a lot easier with the appointment of an indigenous Coach for National senior team in the person of Coach Samson Siasia in December 2010.

For years now, fantasy sports leagues have been run for the benefit of managers who want to manage their own team through the rigors of an entire season. While most leagues are played for fun, some league commissioners will organize leagues with an entry fee and prize money being distributed at the end of the season.

The process starts with an organized draft. The most popular draft format is the standard "snake-draft" where a players' draft position is determined by random draw. For returning keeper leagues, the draft positions might be determined by the manager's placing in the prior season. Over the past few years, auction drafts have increased in popularity. With this format, each manager is given a bankroll, which is used to bid on players until their roster is full.

In both formats, each manager is required to draft a full team of players based on the league's setup configuration. Most leagues have as many as 10 starting roster positions plus bench players. Depending on the league's rules, managers can make player moves on either a daily basis or weekly basis. Scoring is determined by league rules and the competition is head-to-head on a weekly basis. Towards the end of the season, the teams with the best overall records head off into the playoffs, which usually cover the last 2-3 weeks of the NBA regular season.

Daily NBA Fantasy Contests

For managers who like their action fast and furious with cash on the line, popular fantasy sites provide access to daily contests. These daily contest come in a variety of formats that are listed on the website. Managers can choose to compete heat-to-head with a smaller group of managers ranging from 2 to 25 contestants. These contests are usually designed and posted by one of the contestants who then open up the entry process to any contestant who would like to participate based on the contest's setup. The entry fees range from $ 5 all the way up to $ 1,000 per contestant. While some contests are winner takes all, contests with more than 10 contestants might offer small consolation prizes. In all contests, the fantasy sports site will take a fee (usually 10%) to cover administrative costs plus profits.

The other popular format is sponsored contests provided by the website. These contests usually have thousands of entries with huge guaranteed prize packages in the offering for a relatively small entry fee. The larger the participation in these contests, the higher the number of places that will get paid. The prize packages might include large cash prizes, consumer goods or special event prize packages where something like a Super Bowl weekend might be on the line. Many times, managers can earn a free entry fee by winning smaller satellite contests along the way.

The contest rules and scoring parameters are provided by the website. Each manager gets a salary cap (normally $ 50,000) to use when selecting players. Each player that is scheduled to play on a given night will be assigned a salary cap value. Obviously, the better the player, the higher the value. The team structure is usually PG, SG, SF, PF, C, G, F, and UTIL player.

Now that you have a general idea how to play fantasy basketball, it's time to join in the fray. If you choose to play in daily contests, you need to remember that a lot of managers have a significant amount of experience, which might leave you at a disadvantage. The bottom line is you should never put more money on the line than you can afford to lose.
