FC Barcelona Players – Eider Gudjohnsen

Eidur Gudjohnsen, of course, is the answer to a well-known quiz question. Who was the first player to come on as a substitute for his own father in an international football match? What might be even more amazing is that it could happen again in a few years – Eidur's son was one of the star players in the annual televised schoolboys tournament in the summer of 2008, captaining the Barcelona team.

Born in Reykjavik in 1978, Eidur Gudjohnsen was clearly always going to be a footballer and made his debut in the Icelandic League when he was only 16 years of age. After just 17 games for his club Valur, the player had done enough to earn a transfer to Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven. During his 2 seasons in Holland, however, Eidur suffered numerous injuries and was only able to complete 13 games before being transferred back to Iceland – to KR Reykjavik.

Barely had he signed, though, before he was off on his travels again – this time to England and, after a short trial, to Bolton Wanderers. It was his success here, mainly as a bustling and determined center forward, that brought a move to Chelsea, where he was to stay for 6 seasons. During this spell at Stamford Bridge, Gudjohnsen made a total of 268 first team appearances, scoring 78 goals.

Although originally a center forward, Eidur always demonstrated what pundits insisted on calling 'a surprisingly good touch for a big man'. Technically gifted, with very quick feet and, crucially, a nimble brain, the Chelsea fans warmed to the big Icelander because of his remarkable versatility. Able to play up front, in midfield, or even on the wings, Eidur was part of the developing Chelsea team that won the league in 2005 and 2006 and the Carling Cup in 2005.

Many people were surprised when Eidur signed for Barcelona in the summer of 2006, especially when it appeared he was being seen as a direct replacement for the huge fans' favorite, Henrik Larsen. Initially played as a striker, he certainly had problems winning over the Barça faithful and, in his first season, a return of just 5 goals in 25 league games led to questions being asked about the player's suitability for La Liga.

One thing that Eidur Gudjohnsen has always been, though, is determined and that played a big part in his ability to turn the difficult situation around. By being used more in midfield, the player demonstrated his adaptability and consequently, in both 2006/07 and 2007/08, he became an important member of the squad. Able to play in a variety of positions, and always liable to come up with a goal, Eidur Gudjohnsen is now an established Barcelona player and one whom the fans now trust totally.

Iceland's record goal scorer, and with over 50 international caps already, and captain of the national team, Gudjohnsen has been Icelandic Player of the year three times. It is a good bet that he will try to keep his place in the national squad until he's able to play in the same team as his son. Now that would be a good quiz question.

Cheap Mechanical Gaming Keyboards

Comparison – Pros and Cons

Back when the first PCs rolled out from Apple and IBM most computers had mechanical keyboards. IBM's Model M keyboard, which feels like it was built to survive a nuclear blast, has even become popular once again. By touch, you can feel that a key has triggered long before you press the key all the way down. With a simple adapter, you can attach one of these behemoth's to a modern PC without much trouble. If you prefer a new keyboard, there are many on the market from cheap to expensive and everywhere in-between.

What can you expect from a mechanical keyboard, as opposed to a membrane type? If you're like your gaming gear to have a quick response, and what gamer doesn't? Then you might want to add a mechanical keyboard to your arsenal of computer gear. A mechanical keyboard has a very precise and short keypress. The tactile feedback on whether or not your key has indeed been pressed can be useful in gaming where milliseconds count. It also rewards you with a satisfying mechanical "click" not only tactile but audible. Now, to some, that click can be annoying, esp. While you're frantically pressing macro keys during an intense moment in your game. However, most people find it quite satisfying, even helpful to their game.

Many gamers never return to membrane type keyboards with their somewhat muddy and silent keys. The quality of membrane keyboards can sometimes be lower since that is why they are made … to save money. One advantage of membrane type keyboards is that they are often more water resistant than mechanical keys. Overall, there is something about even the cheaper mechanical keyboards that make them feel better for gaming in most cases.

What makes a mechanical keyboard different?

On a conventional membrane keyboard, beneath the keys are plastic membranes which connect the circuits linking your key and your keyboard electronics before transmitting out the keypress to your PC. These are very economical to produce and therefore the membrane keyboard has become standard for modern PC gear.

On a mechanical keyboard, each key is directly attached to an electronic switch which instantly transmits the signal as soon as it's pushed to your machine. This differs from the membrane keyboard, in that it usually requires pushing the key all the way down before it making a complete circuit, then transmits the signal. The mechanical switch requires less distance before the switch is engaged and the signal sent resulting in tangible feedback upon keypress.

Choosing Bed and Breakfast Accommodation

There are many on line guides available to help you choose bed and breakfast accommodation, whether it is a city location such as a Leicester bed and breakfast that you are looking for, or a quiet retreat deep in the Scottish Highlands.

Some on line guides offer a bespoke booking service, with instant confirmation of your room reservation, as well as offering visitor information on the location or region you will be staying in. Special discounts for on line bookings and late availability discounts for last minute room reservations are also offered. On line guides sometimes offer independent reviews of featured bed and breakfasts, with ratings awarded to different aspects of the accommodation, such as cleanliness, quality of the food, decorations and furniture and the welcome given to guests. After you have finished your stay, you may be invited to provide feedback and this, in turn, will be useful to future prospective visitors.

Bed and breakfast accommodation is a growing area on line for guests to research and find well priced overnight stays. It is also an increasingly popular medium for bed and breakfast owners, as they are able to reach a national and even international market. Formerly, many bed and breakfasts would have remained undiscovered gems, only able to attract local visitors or those able or willing to search out guide books and contact the tourist information facility in the region of their proposed stay. The Internet has changed all that, by providing a world platform to guest houses, inns, farmhouses and many other types of bed and breakfast accommodation.

The great appeal of bed and breakfasts is that they offer a more personal alternative to a hotel, in a relaxed atmosphere. As well as the traditional seaside bed and breakfasts in coastal resorts such as Blackpool, Skegness, Scarborough and Brighton, you can find intimate cosy countryside retreats in beautiful areas such as the Lake District or the Cotswolds. There are also many establishments aiming at the top end of the market and these are situated in towns, villages and countryside alike, meaning that you can experience luxury in, for example, a sleek modern London, Birmingham or Leicester bed and breakfast or in an «old world» environment of a thatched Gloucestershire pub or Shropshire coaching inn.

A stay in a good bed and breakfast should be like a welcoming home away from home. You should feel as relaxed as if you were staying over at a friend’s place. You will get breakfast and sometimes even a packed lunch (usually at an additional charge, although some establishments will fill up your flask with tea or coffee for free). Drying facilities are normally on offer if your bed and breakfast is on a walking trail, so that if you get a soaking (quite likely, given the typical British weather!) your clothes will be dry and ready to wear again the following next day. As most bed and breakfasts are run by the owners themselves, they tend to know a lot about the local area and can be an absolute mine of information. They will know the best pubs, restaurants, shops, walks and excursions and often enjoy sharing their knowledge with their guests.

The Diary of Jack the Ripper – Book Review

Jack the Ripper remains the most notorious serial killer of all time. The fact he was never caught and never identified maintains the mystery. Here is a book that purports to reveal Jack's actual diary. According to the writer, Jack the Ripper was in fact a cotton merchant from Liverpool by the name of James Maybrick. No I am not giving away the ending, that much is revealed on the first page. He traveled to London by train, murdered and mutilated his victims, and calmly returned home to torment his young wife.

James Maybrick was unquestionably an interesting man. He traveled to Norfolk, Virginia on cotton and tobacco business and on the boat journey home, met and fell in love with an American beauty by the name of Florence Chandler. She was 18. He was 41. It would seem that both parties imagined the other to be wealthier than they actually were.

Florence was destined to become the first American woman to be tried in an English court, and as the charge was one of murdering her husband, it was a case that entranced the nation. The book argues the reason for the sudden end to the Ripper killings was because Maybrick was dead.

The mysterious diary that came to light at the end of the eighties is reproduced almost in full. I will leave you to make up your mind as to its authenticity. As for the book itself, I found it an interesting read, and I certainly learned much I did not know before. It may contain glaring anomalies, but you might like to get hold of a copy yourself and make up your own mind.

There is a vaguely interesting personal footnote. Among the photographs in the book is a picture of Knowsley Buildings in Old Hall Street, Liverpool. This is the building where James Maybrick maintained his offices. It was an old block with Dickensian outside metal staircases, almost a cross between a workhouse and a prison. In my youth I knew it well. There is a photograph in the book of Knowsley Buildings and within the basement, clearly visible, is or was, a gents' hairdressing saloon. I knew that well too. I well remember sitting there waiting for a trim, as a teenage office boy, clutching my newly released Sergeant Pepper album.

The saloon was ancient and was dismantled when the building was knocked down in 1970. The thought occurs to me that could it possibly have been been that James Maybrick, who maintained an office just upstairs, had his locks trimmed there too? He was a neat dapper chap, his photograph tells us that. It would seem very likely he would pop downstairs for a cut.

Could it possibly have been that I sat in the chair that was sat in by Jack the Ripper himself, as he thought of his hideous business? Now there's a thought! I liked the book. It brought back many memories, most of them good ones.

Advantages of RGP Contact Lenses

Just because RGP (rigid gas permeable, oftentimes referred to just as GPs) contact lenses have been around a long time and have been seemingly displaced in popularity by soft contacts, they are still an important player in correcting eye disorders.

Rigid Gas Permeable lenses came along as a better alternative to PMMA, or hard, contacts. Hard contacts did not allow oxygen to pass through to the eye, setting up a situation wherein prolonged wear caused complications such as swelling, cloudiness to the cornea, blurred vision, and infection. The materials in RGP contacts are more oxygen friendly and the firm construction of the lens conducts a flow of tears across the cornea during blinking; this provides adequate and much-needed moisture to the eyes.

Gas permeable lenses hold their own alongside soft contacts for a variety of reasons. They can be fitted in a more custom-made manner to the eye and retain their shape better during the blinking process, which keeps crisp vision from fluctuating. The rigidity also assists astigmatism patients in maintaining a rounded cornea that will let light hit the center of the retina, producing desired clarity of vision. In this vein, GPs become the only resort for those with irregular or severely scarred corneas. They are also a top choice when post-LASIK wear becomes necessary to correct remaining aberrations following surgery.

While it is true that on average it takes two to three weeks to become comfortable with GPs (soft lenses tend to provide more immediate comfort), once a satisfactory fit is reached, the quality of vision attained makes the adjustment period well worth it.

The care regimen* for GPs is easier because of their resistance to proteins and other deposits; they hold up over time to repeated cleaning. Needless to say, a longer-lasting lens can be less expensive due to fewer replacements.

Gas permeable lenses can be made with various designs and materials, freeing the fitter to fashion a contact to meet precise needs. Recent advances in technology have allowed a hybrid lens to be developed that combines the best features of soft contacts with those of GPs. The result is a lens with a rigid gas permeable center married to a soft outer skirting-giving the wearer sharp vision and comfort.

So, despite the vogue for soft contacts, GPs should not be discounted when selecting a suitable lens. They have a proven track record that makes them far from obsolete.

*Always follow your eye doctor’s instructions for proper wear and cleaning of contact lenses. They will also assist in choosing the best lens and answer any questions concerning GPs, soft contacts, and other lenses available to you.

How Proper Eye Care Can Help Save You Money

Saving money is on everyone’s mind in these uncertain economic times. There are various areas where small changes can mean real savings – carpooling to work, bringing a bagged lunch and a brewed cup of coffee from home as opposed to going out. But when saving a few dollars comes at the expense of your health, the long-term risks far exceed any short-term benefits. This is the case with contact lenses.

Although wearing your contact lenses for longer than your prescription allows may seem like an easy way to save some money, it can have detrimental effects on ocular health.

Contact lenses are a medical device and should be treated as such, in accordance with the recommendations of your eye care practitioner. Wearing contact lenses for too long can lead to abnormal blood vessel growth on the cornea; epithelial microcysts; thinning of the cornea; and reduced corneal sensitivity.

Eye problems caused by contact lens overwear are generally due to a decrease in oxygen transmitted to the eye. Oxygen is essential to the health of the cornea. When the eye is not absorbing enough oxygen through the contact lens, hypoxic conditions ensue. Hypoxia can lead to serious infections, including microbial keratitis, a painful and potentially sight-threatening corneal infection.

Eye infections and other problems that arise from improper contact lens care can be very costly – medical expenses and lost days of work, not to mention the inconvenience and impact on quality of life of vision problems. In 1990, researchers estimated that the cost of blindness and visual impairment to the federal budget of the United States was approximately $4 billion.

Risks and best practices

Contact lenses have been around for more than 100 years and though significant advances have been made in that time, the risks and side effects associated with wear remain a reality.

A contact lens is a foreign object to the eye. If the lens does not fit properly or is not properly cared for, it can adversely affect vision and the eye itself.

The most common problems associated with contact lens wear are excess tearing, itching or burning, dryness, sensitivity to light, and distorted vision. All of these symptoms can be worsened by improper lens care, which includes wearing lenses too long.

On occasion, a contact lens wearer will wear their lenses until their vision becomes blurred or distorted, and may not realize that this behavior can cause permanent, irreversible damage to the cornea, the front covering of the eye which provides about two-thirds of the eye’s focusing power.

When contact lens wearers disregard their cleaning and lens replacement schedules, the ability of their contact lens to transmit oxygen to the cornea decreases, and deposits build up on the lens surface and within the lens material itself.

The continued wear of lenses with protein deposits can lead to infections, giant papillary conjunctivitis, and potentially serious long-term hypoxic changes such as myopia creep, corneal thinning, and chronic low-grade corneal edema.

Cutting corners with contact lens care can result in temporary, and in some cases, permanent eye damage. However, contact lens wearers who properly maintain and care for their lenses are benefited greatly by it.

Although there are several types of contact lenses that are approved for continuous wear for up to 30 days, this schedule is not appropriate for everyone. Wearing lenses at night reduces the amount of oxygen that is transmitted to the cornea. This reduction in oxygen absorption can damage the surface of the cornea, allowing germs and bacteria to grow more rapidly.

Every person’s eyes are different and respond differently to contact lenses. It is important to discuss a schedule that best suits your individual needs with your eye care practitioner.

Matched Betting – Learn How To Make Money From Matched Betting Online For Bookmakers Bonuses

Matched betting is a term which is increasingly being heard these days. It is even being referred to as ‘intelligent betting’ in betting circles. The entire concept of matched betting involves placing a bet both as a punter and also laying a bet as a bookmaker. This has become possible thanks to the advent of the numerous betting exchanges these days. If properly used, matched betting is known to eliminate the element of luck to quite some extent and can get no-risk returns.

The entire concept of matched betting works like this. You place a bet at bookies and back your chosen outcome at particular odds. For example, you could be backing Chelsea to beat Man United in a soccer match. If Chelsea were to win, you would win back your stake and if you lose, you lose your stake to the bookie. What if at the same time, you were to lay a bet, simultaneously as a bookmaker and offered the same odds to someone for Chelsea beating Man United?

This is what matched betting is all about. It works on the principle that whatever you win or loose is always cancelled out by whatever you win or lose, both as a punter and as a bookmaker. Although all this sounds good you should always keep in mind certain things when dealing with matched betting. For one you will need to use betting exchanges, which never offer lay odds which are the same as those offered by bookmakers. The second thing that you should remember is that you will also need to shell out a significant commission to the betting exchange. You need to be clear on all these aspects of matched betting before you place, as well as lay a bet on a particular outcome.

How to Talk to a Woman – Using the "Sonic Rapport" Formula

Dude, listen – if you don’t know how to talk to a woman in such a way that she is totally smitten by you, then you are missing out – a lot! Developing rapport is the biggest thing when it comes to building attraction. But fret not – rapport building techniques are easy to learn – but you must first know what they are in the first place! Read on to discover the «Sonic Rapport» formula and use it to achieve killer results with women fast…

How to Talk to a Woman – Using The «Sonic Rapport» Formula

Component # 1: «The Eyes». As Frank Sinatra once said, it’s all in the eyes, baby. Building rapport hinges on strong eye contact – which gives her the impression of being confident and strong. If you do not hold a steady eye contact with her, then you might be perceived as untruthful – which kills rapport.

If you find it hard to maintain a steady gaze, then look into the area between her eyes just right underneath her forehead. It works just the same.

While you must maintain eye contact, do NOT stare. That’s plain rude.

Component # 2: «The Body». It has been said that up to 90% of all communications is non-verbal. This is true. Your body language has indeed got a lot to do when it comes to building rapport!

The first thing that a woman notices is your body language – they can often make or break you. Sit, stand and walk with a good, confident posture. Practice this in front of a mirror – it helps a lot.

Component # 3: «The Verbage». What this means this that what you SAY will determine whether you are able to build deep emotional connection with a woman or not. I will cut to the chase – the absolute best way to develop rapport is to use hypnosis.

One such hypnosis technique, called fractionation, has been regularly used by expert seducers to build deep rapport with women – and in the end make women fall in love with them in record time! This technique involves making women go through an emotional rollercoaster, and in the process ‘anchor’ their positive states to the seducer. As a result, women feel emotionally connected to the man, and become highly compliant to him. Killer stuff!

Manchester is also home to the awesome Ferrari F1 360 limousine, an amazing 6 seater limousine that is officially the fastest limousine in the world as well as the only pink Chrysler C300 Baby Bentley limousine in the whole of the UK. The fantastic Audi Q7 limousine and Range Rover Sport limousine can also be hired in the North West along with the BMW X5 limousine and a quality selection of stretch Lincoln Town Cars.

There are also some of the best fire engine limos to be found in the UK mainly in Manchester and Liverpool and probably the greatest collection of Jeep Expedition limos to be found anywhere. All are brand new and available in black, white, pink and silver and kitted out with the latest mod cons and gadgets such as DVD players, Flat Screen TV's and Surround Sound Systems.

The North West comprises five counties namely Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire. Major towns and cities in the North West include Chester, Crewe, Macclesfield and Warrington (Cheshire), Barrow-in-Furness and Carlisle (Cumbria), Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Salford, Stockport and Wigan (Greater Manchester), Blackburn , Blackpool, Burnley and Lancaster (Lancashire) and Liverpool, St Helens and Wirral (Merseyside).

Limousine hire in the North West covers all these areas and more and can be rented for any occasion or event. This includes hen nights, stag nights, school proms, weddings, corporate events, airport transfers, birthdays, race days, shopping sprees, anniversaries or maybe just a night out on the town. In fact stretch limos in the North West can be used for practically any occasion.

It is always a good idea to book your limousine early, in fact the earlier the better. This is particularly true for key dates such as weddings and school proms as these events are the most popular for limousine hire. By booking early not only will you avoid disappointment and hire the limousine you want but you may also get a very competitive price. This is because limousine companies are always keen to rent their limos out rather than have them sitting in the depot and there is no way of knowing how busy a particular day is likely to be. You will find that as that date approaches and demand increases the cost of the rental will increase considerably, in some case as high as 50 percent. Another way to keep limousine hire prices down is to rent midweek, again demand is the key. The most popular days of the week for limousine hire are Fridays and Saturdays. Therefore by booking on a less popular day such as a Sunday prices are likely to be much lower.

The Oldest International Stadium in Football – The Racecourse Ground

The Racecourse Ground: Wrexham

The Racecourse ground situated in Wrexham, North East Wales is the oldest International Football Stadium in the World and has been the venue for some of British Football’s most historic memories. The following article details the fascinating history of the stadium.

The Racecourse Ground («Y Cae Ras» in Welsh language) is the long term home of Wrexham Football Club who currently ply their trade in the Blue Square Premier league, the Racecourse is the largest stadium in this league with a capacity of 15,000, however this is currently reduced to 10,500 due to the kop stand being closed awaiting renovation to take the ground to being an all seater venue. In early 2010 Super League (Rugby League) side The Crusaders relocated to Wrexham and now use The Racecourse Ground as their home base.

In the 1800’s the Ground was owned by Wrexham Cricket Club and was a venue for Cricket and Horse Racing (hence the grounds name). In 1872 Wrexham Football Club was born and thus the ground became a football stadium. In those days however it was less of a «stadium» due to the lack of facilities. The first stand to be built was the kop terracing in the 1950’s whch is the oldest remaining part of the gound. The current away supporters stand (Eric Roberts Builders Stand) was built in 1978 following Wrexham’s most successful period on the pitch. By this time floodlights had already long been installed. In 1999 the ground was brought to it’s current standards with the completion of a 3500 capacity, modern designed stand including restaurant and bar facilities. The current capacity of 15000 is dwarfed by the record recorded attendance of amlost 35,000 people to witness an FA Cup tie against Manchester United in the 1950’s

The Racecourse Ground’s most distinguishing fact is that it is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as being the oldest International Football Stadium in current use. Over the years it has hosted many Wales International matches meaning the roll call of world greats to have graced the Racecourse changing rooms is long and distinguished. The Raceourse ground was the venue when Wales beat England 4-1 in the then Home Nations Tournament, a game still oft referred to and featured on television programmes. Similarly the Racecourse ground is featured annually on the weekend of the FA Cup third round having been the venue for the greatest FA Cup giant killing of all time when Wrexham beat current league champions Arsenal 2-1 in 1990.

The ground is no stranger to club level European football either, Wrexham enjoyed many ventures in the European Cup Winners cup and in recent years Welsh sides Bangor City and Total Network Solutions have used the venue for their European ties.

The Racecourse ground is also a favourite rugby venture. Currently the home of Rugby league team «The Crusaders» it has also been used by Rugby Union region «The Scarlets» as well as playing host to World Cup Rugby League and International Rugby Union matches.

The future of the Racecourse ground is that Wrexham Football Clubs owners plan to redevelop land behind the top end of the ground into student accommodation whilst rebuilding the kop stand into a multi purpose stand. The future may be different from the past but it is certain that the history and memories of the ground will live forever.
