England – Overview

England is a kingdom dripping with tradition and pride. The is a brief intro to this royal kingdom and some places you may find worthwhile.

Yeah, you can find the typical Brit snobs, but you will find that most of the people are friendly, down-to-earth, and steadfast, if at times somewhat enjoyably quirky. In fact, although more reserved than Americans, many Americans find friends in Britain with little difficulty, especially when camping or doing something else together with the British, such as hiking, biking, or other activities. Our common language is a huge advantage in Britain and enables you to speak to anyone.

The land is so enchantingly beautiful it is awe-inspiring. Great Britain truly is one of the most beautiful islands in the world. England is a green, pleasant, and graceful land with rustic, orderly villages and towns and vibrant cities all with centuries-old architecture that capture the quintessential essence of England. It is like visiting an enchanted land.

There are several large cities in England, such as Liverpool and Manchester, but the most important city politically and culturally is London.

London

In some ways, London captures the spirit of England and it is its very center in many ways except geographically. Besides a healthy and ever-changing clubbing scene, London also has a major place to see live theatre in the English-speaking world; and this is located in the West End districts of Soho and Covent Garden. Interesting places to see in the daytime include The Eye, which is a giant Ferris wheel with large enclosed cabins that travel slowly around and provide surprisingly good vistas of London. A cruise tour of the Thames River travels through the center of London, but you may also visit the Tower of London that houses the Crown jewels, the London Aquarium, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, Westminster Abbey, and The London Zoo, to name a few. For those interested, London has a number of major world-renowned museums including the National Gallery, the Natural History Museum, and the Museum of Victoria and Albert. If you need to do some shopping for yourself or for gifts or just for fun, visit some neighborhood flea markets and antique shops on the weekend.

But London is not everyone’s cup of tea.

Get Out of London

Many American visitors remain in London for their entire vacation, and that is a dogfish shame. If you are backpacking or have the gumption to strike out and travel the roads and byways away from the big city, then for goodness sake after you see some of London, get out of London and roam through the rest of England.

The English countryside has been the topic of rhyme and verse, ballad and song for over a thousand years. Simply put, it is awe-inspiring in its forested grandeur, and a welcome refuge from the hectic city. In deepest England you will free yourself from (most) freeways and except for festivals, mobs of people and find the quiet villages and towns that are the prototypical Olde England. Of course, in the summer months, many Britons have the same idea, so the larger tourist towns may not be as quiet as one may wish.

But there are other delights. In the summer months festivals are everywhere and you will be able to attend folk music festivals, rock festivals, and all other kinds of festivals all across Britain. Visit a government tourist office for festivals in the areas you plan to visit.

In addition, there is an abundance of magnificent medieval cathedral cities such as Lincoln, York, Salisbury, Durham and Winchester, fascinating ruined castles and majestic country manor houses that dot the countryside that are open to the public, an abundance of peaceful gardens, National Trails footpaths hundreds of miles long, and picturesque villages each with its own unique eccentricities, literally all over England.

Research and plan ahead of your trip and plan where you would like to go and what you would like to see and experience.

The following are some districts, towns, and places you might like to visit.

Bath

Some consider Bath the most idyllic of English towns. Bath is west of London and in the beautiful English countryside, Bath is an especially beautiful town. This is the location of the famous Roman Baths, which became popular because of natural hot springs in the area. The remains of the Roman baths are open to the public.

Oxford & Cambridge

These are separate towns but one cannot be discussed without the other, as the history of England is intertwined with the ancient universities of both of these towns. In fact, the two towns are sometimes referred to as «Oxbridge.» Oxford and Cambridge are incredibly beautiful towns that are so profoundly English and upper class that their importance and prestige would border on myth were it not fact.

Oxford is the older of the two towns and Oxford University is the oldest in Britain. Oxford University has 36 colleges and over 14,000 students. Oxford is a very small town that is also one of the major tourist destinations in Britain. This means it is often very crowded, so we do not consider driving a car in Oxford as a viable option. If you are arriving by car, there is a Park and Ride service with buses into the city centre that we recommend you use. Or bring bikes and bike around Oxford. Incidentally, if you attempt to rent a punt (boat) to go punting on the river, we recommend you do so only if you are a strong swimmer as learning to control a punt is incredibly difficult, but as all such things- it looks so easy.

Cambridge is a very pleasant town not far from Oxford. There are many things to see and do in Cambridge, but because it is a smaller in size, Cambridge is the best choice to visit during the school year, but if classes are out Oxford is boss.

Stonehenge & Avebury

Stonehenge is a famous prehistoric ritual site made up of a circular formation of enormous boulders. There are various theories on the origins of Stonehenge, but it is acknowledged that it served as an astronomical observatory and it had major religious significance. Visitors have come in increasing numbers over the years so to protect the site, it can only be observed at a distance, so don’t expect to be able to walk around the boulders.

Avebury is not far away and it is also a magnificent prehistoric site. Unlike Stonehenge, Avebury is still fully accessible to visitors. It is certainly worth a visit.

Cotswolds

The farm fields and gentle rolling hills of the Cotswolds are an gorgeous area west of Oxford, east of Gloucester, and running north up to an area south of Birmingham, in southwest England. The Government has designated it as an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ (AONB). It is best to visit this unusually picturesque area off season. Should you visit during the warm months avoid the larger towns and you will not in any way lesson your experience. There is a National Trail called ‘The Cotswold Way’ which is a hiking footpath that runs for 102 miles (164 km) along the dramatic escarpment of the Cotswold Hills from Bath north and then parallel to Gloucester and then north through the countryside to the west of Cheltenham and then north to Chipping Campden. Several prehistoric sites are close to the trail and are worth visiting.

Glastonbury & Its Festival

Of interest to those with of a spiritual, New Age, NeoPagan, Traditional Craft, or Transitional Community orientation, Glastonbury, in Somerset, southwest England, is of special significance. If you are of like mind, you will find this small town an interesting place to visit. For some, it is a place of pilgrimage to experience its special energy-matrix, similar to that of Sedona, Arizona, with the convergence of energy lines, or lay lines, close to the town. Glastonbury also has its share of myths as it is thought by some as the possible location of King Arthur’s Isle of Avalon. In any event, it is certainly a unique place with interesting people.

Since the 1970’s, Glastonbury has been famous for its open-air performing arts festival, which actually takes place in the small town of Pilton, near Glastonbury. The Glastonbury Festival is a music festival that has drawn some of the leading pop and rock musicians, but there is also live theatre, comedy, and dance productions, a circus, a cabaret, and other arts. The Festival usually takes place in the latter part of June, but did not occur in 2012 due to the 2012 London Olympics. In 2011, tickets sold out within four hours of going on sale. You have to plan well ahead if you want to attend.

Cornwall’s Eden Project

Although Cornwall is itself an interesting county, of special interest is an astonishing place called the Eden Project. It consists of two incredibly enormous domes with secondary supporting domes that make up the world’s largest greenhouse. This is a green-conscious facility that is huge in size. If you arrive by foot, bike, or by public transportation, you will qualify for the «Green Discount» of £19.50 for admission. Although expensive, it is well-worth it.

Inside the first dome is a tropical rainforest environment and the second has a Mediterranean environment. Thousands upon thousands of plants and trees are carefully tended. You are able to follow a path through these domed environments. It is a pleasant and beautiful experience. It is located in the countryside 1¼ miles (2 km) from the town of St. Blazey and 3 miles (5 km) from St. Austell.

The Lake District

Another especially beautiful area are the mountains and serene lakes of The Lake District, also called ‘The Lakes’, in northwest England, that essentially is the national park of the same name. The pastoral mountain scenery of The Lakes is breathtaking with stunning views comparable with any you will find in Switzerland. The mountains with its natural lakes and beautiful rustic villages was the inspiration for some of England’s leading romantic poets of the 19th century including Wordsworth and Coleridge.

Manchester

Manchester is an impressive city in the north of England that has transformed itself into a modern metropolis that has fully embraced the 21st century like few others in Europe. Many consider Manchester as the most dynamic city in England if not in Europe, and after London the most important city in England.

Manchester is a lively city with a very active nightlife, a lively fine arts scene, the place of a ‘musical revolution’, and has a considerable amount of modern architecture. It is clearly the city of the future and it is the only English city to carefully plan for orderly and planned residential expansion. It has been compared to Barcelona in its uniqueness and modernity. It is a wonderful place for a vacation, and it is cheaper, friendlier, and more pleasant than London– but that is a personal opinion. Manchester has five universities and a very active night scene.

Brief History of the LPWA

The LPWA, or Ladies Professional Wrestling Association, was a wrestling promotion that featured women wrestlers with an emphasis on athleticism rather than beauty. The association was started by ex-wrestler Tor Berg in 1989 and lasted until 1992. Berg attempted to begin the promotion again in the beginning of 1999, joining forces with the NWA and changing the name to form the WNWA (Womens National Wrestling Alliance), but this venture was also short-lived as the promotion only lasted until 2000.

Before closing up shop in 1992, the LPWA held its one and only pay-per-view event, which was known as the «Super Ladies Showdown». The event took place on February 23, 1992 in Rochester, Minnesota at the Mayo Civic Center. The main events of the pay-per-view showing were the LPWA Singles Championship and the LPWA Japanese Championship. There were 12 matches televised for the event, with four of them being first round match-ups for the Japanese Championship, two semi-final matches for the Japanese Championship, and then the actual championship match.

The LPWA Japanese Championship was won by Harley Saito, who defeated Denise Storm to win the belt. The LPWA Singles Championship was won by Terri Power, better known as Tori from the WWF, who defeated Lady X. Lady X had previously won the championship over Susan Sexton on January 31, 1991. Lady X was also known as Peggy Lee Leather of the WWF, who formed a tag team partnership with Wendi Richter. Richter later became the WWF singles champion and defeated Leather in her quest for the belt. These two went on to battle each other in POWW(Powerful Women of Wrestling) as well. Lady X was also known for her performance in the lingerie battle royal for the AWA SuperClash III pay-per-view event and also appeared in WOW (Women of Wrestling) as Thug from 2000 to 2001.

The Tag Team Championship was also part of the LPWA’s only pay-per-view event and featured Leilani Kai and Judy Martin beating Bambi and Malia Hosaka for the championship. Kai was part of the WWF in the 1980’s and at one time was the champion after defeating Wendi Richter. She also paired with Judy Martin to form the Glamour Girls, who became both WWF and LPWA Tag Team Champions at different times in their careers. Kai also held the NWA World Womens Championship and wrestled for the WCW under the name of Patty Stonegrinder.

One of the most famous woman wrestlers of all-time, Madusa Miceli, who wrestled for the LPWA, WWF, and also for All Japan Women’s Pro Wrestling. She was the first non-Japanese wrestler to compete in the All-Japan league of women wrestlers.

Following is a synopsis of the list of the LPWA’s championship holders.

LPWA Singles

  1. Susan Sexton / Awarded title in January of 1990
  2. Lady X / Defeated Susan Sexton January 31, 1991
  3. Terri Power / Defeated Lady X February 23, 1992

LPWA Tag Team Championship

  1. Team America (Heidi Lee Morgan and Misty Blue) defeated Bad, Black, and Beautiful (Black Venus and Bad Girl) March 13, 1990
  2. The Glamour Girls (Judy Martin and Leilani Kai) defeated Team America February 28, 1991

With the closing of the LPWA in 1992, all of these womens wrestling titles were abandoned.

What Exactly Is League of Legends and What Are League of Legends Champions?

You’ve probably heard some of your friends mention it all the time, and if you’re on the internet it’s most likely that you’ve stumbled upon hundreds of people talking about «LoL», but what is this League of Legends so many people talk about? If you’re wondering that chances are you’ve been leaving under a rock for the past eight years.

League of Legends, or simply «LoL», as it’s commonly abbreviated, is one of the biggest multiplayer online battle arena (or MOBA, for friends) in the industry. In this game you control a character, or «champion» as they’re called in the game, and team up with other players against the enemy team. The goal is to destroy the other team’s Nexus, which is pretty much the core of their base.

What exactly are League of Legends Champions? League of Legends Champions are only another word use for a character. Each champion has its different set of abilities and role inside a team, so the team must keep good communication in order to stay organized and defeat the opponent team. The characters usually start at a basic level and they get stronger as players collect items and experience, of course this is restarted every match, meaning that you always start from zero, making it a most fair way of fighting. Another interesting thing about the roast of characters is that it is always expanding, introducing new characters every now and then, bringing new life to the game and giving you a chance to experiment new ways to play it, create new strategies, build a better team and overall have a lot more fun!

You can play it online or against bots (computer controlled characters), however if you’re playing online you can join the ranked matches, what are these? Basically, they check your record and experience and put you in an online match against players of your similar skill level, giving you great and fair matches. Building the hype for you to compete your way to the highest ranks, creating strategies and challenging your friends, teammates and yourself as you fight your way to the top. To play League of Legends is also to join the biggest online gaming community in the world, this ensures that you will meet people from around the world, make friends, exchange stat and as mentioned before, generally have a good time.

Or, if you want to step up you gaming to the next level you can give the eSports a shot. Since LoL’s community is the biggest in the world, it also has a huge feed on the eSports scenario. Get good enough to compete in professional matches, join a team and challenge the best of the best in global tournaments that bring people from all over the world together to enjoy a great match. If you get good enough, you can actually win huge monetary prizes in these competitions! Imagine that, making money out of playing an amazing game? What could be better?

Even though the online competition is most likely the most attractive aspect of LoL, gamers will find that the game has a rich and entertaining plot, where character have ling backstories and interactions between themselves, making it a more immersive experience into a new world.

So, if you want to have a great time, make some cool friends, compete in the biggest gaming community in the world and again, have a great time, join League of Legends, you can even download it and play it for free so, what are you waiting for? Adventure awaits!

A Mother’s Day Wish

Any holiday is tough to get through after the death of a loved one, but Mother’s Day can be especially hard for those who have lost their mother, and for those mothers who have lost a child. Holidays tend to be painful reminders of what you’ve lost and how you used to celebrate that day. Whether you’ve lost your mother or you’re a mother who’s lost a child, this Mother’s Day is for you. Find a way to celebrate it in a way that brings back memories of your departed loved one and sheds light on the wonderful celebration of mothers everywhere.

Buy Flowers

Flowers are one thing that any mother would love to receive. If you have lost your mother, buy a beautiful bouquet and deliver it to your mother’s memorial. Pay her a visit and tell her how much you still love her. If you are a mother who has lost a child, buy a bouquet for yourself. Set the flowers out to remind yourself that you are a wonderful mother, on this day and every day.

Celebrate with Your Children

If you’re suffering the tragic loss of a child, there’s no doubt that mother’s day will be tough. But don’t forget the other miracles you have in your life. If you have other children, let them celebrate you the way you deserve to be celebrated. It’s okay to be sad and to reflect on the loss of your child, but try not to shut out your other children. They love you very much and will want to take this opportunity to show you.

Celebrate with a Different Mom

Losing a parent is heart-breaking, no matter how old you are. You relied on your mother for things that no one else could provide; support, advice, and unconditional love. Although no one can replace your mom, you can still honor Mother’s Day by celebrating a different mom. Maybe you have a grandma or aunt in your life who you are particularly close with. Perhaps your friend’s mom has been particularly supportive to you over the years. Reach out to one of these other moms this Mother’s Day so that you don’t let the day go by uncelebrated. Your mom would be happy to see you connecting with someone in her absence.

The reason Mother’s Day is so special is because it gives us a reason to give thanks to the woman who brought us into the world and for the many wonderful things she did for us thereafter. If you are that woman to someone, this day is for you, whether that ‘someone’ is with us here on Earth or not. If your own mother has past away, there’s no reason why you still can’t celebrate her on this very special day.

Contact Lenses – A Confidence Builder For Valentines Day

Confidence is a key component to success in life – from landing a job, to garnering respect and admiration from peers, to falling in love. A person who exudes confidence is generally well regarded – it is much easier to like a person who likes him or herself.

A basic aspect of liking oneself is feeling content with one’s appearance and having a basic acceptance of who we are. For people with vision problems, making the switch from eyeglasses to contact lenses can make a world of difference in their confidence level and self-image.

With Valentines Day just around the corner, now is the time to make the switch to contact lenses, boost your confidence level and maybe work up the courage to ask out the person you most admire.

It is said that the eyes are the gateway into the soul. Gazing into the eyes of a loved one can be quite telling. In the eyes of a significant other, you might see love and compassion; in the eyes of your child you might see traces of yourself and a youthful exuberance. The ability to read one’s emotion in their eyes is truly meaningful and inspiring.

A captivating gaze with a contact lens wearer is simple to achieve. Contacts are worn directly on the cornea, making them nearly invisible. With eyeglasses on the other hand, distracting glares, reflections or fogging of the lenses in varying temperatures make an intimate gaze more challenging, though not impossible.

The aesthetic aspects of contact lenses are the most basic benefits, but there are other important benefits as well. Contact lenses are an effective means of vision correction that provide a great peripheral field of vision, which allows the wearer to be significantly more active than when wearing eyeglasses. Contact lenses offer a natural-looking alternative to wearers – most people aren’t even aware that lenses are being worn – which helps the wearer to feel confident about their appearance.

Although the social benefits of contact lenses are numerous, it is important to remember that a contact lens is a medical device, and should be treated as such. Lenses must be fitted by an eye care professional and it is crucial to eye health that wearers follow their prescribed cleaning and replacement schedule.

Modern contact lenses offer visual solutions for different eye problems. For those who are intrigued by an edgier appearance, or who are seeking something different, colored contact lenses are an option. These lenses are available for people who don’t require vision correction, but must still be fitted by an eye care practitioner.

Contact your eye care practitioner to schedule an exam to be fit for contact lenses today, and visit Contact Lens King [http://www.contactlensking.com/index.aspx] for more information on contact lenses and eye health.

Divorce – 5 Financial Steps To Take BEFORE Getting A Divorce

Marriage is defined as «the state of being united as spouses in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law». When two people enter into a marriage the expectations are that it will last for the rest of their lifetimes, for better or worse, until death do them part. However, some marriages – as hard as people may try – don’t always last a lifetime.

A marriage may result in separating ways and end in divorce regardless of how hard one or both parties try to make it work. This can be a giant roller coaster of emotions. With everything going on there is one extremely important thing many people neglect to think about… YOU. If you find yourself going through a divorce you need to look out for yourself and your financial independence. Too often we see a separating spouse blindsided by certain financial realities. Take a look at these 5 steps BEFORE getting a divorce to ensure you are looking out for your own interest before the divorce finalizes.

1. Audit your current financial situation

Divorces can be unexpected and abrupt. They can also be prolonged and only come to fruition when a step is finally taken to formalize it. Regardless of sudden or more prolonged, there is an urgency with awareness of your current financial situation as a married couple.

With some couples, one person handles the finances more than the other person. While this is not recommended, it does inevitably happen. And in some cases of couples separating we see females who are left in the dark about the financial state of the two as a couple. Whether it be because the husband assumed the role or the wife is staying home with the kids, it is more common for the woman to be less aware of the couple’s financial state. However, this can undoubtedly go both ways and both should take this step into consideration regardless of which role.

This is something you need to protect yourself from. If you know that a divorce is coming, you will be initiating a divorce soon or you just had the bomb dropped that your husband or wife wants a divorce, take this step with extreme urgency. Print out or make copies of bank, brokerage and retirement statements, credit card statements, trusts, or joint investments. Have hard copy evidence of any and all of assets of the marriage.

Why do this?

The hope is that the divorce will be an amicable one, however, when emotions run high, one party may do something out of spite. We’ve seen instances of a spouse trying to shield assets from the other, change account authorizations to restrict the other spouses access, or hide any information that would benefit them-self to do so in the event of a divorce.

So how do you combat this? First start with educating yourself on your current financial situation. If you have a financial advisor you trust, set an appointment with them. If you want to consider a different financial advisor that is independent of your spouse, make an appointment accordingly.

Be aware of any outstanding debt there may be. Sometimes one side of the couple is blissfully unaware of the amount of debt their spouse is racking up while they are still married. This can come out when the divorce is in process and may leave both spouses responsible for the debt regardless of who created it.

Its far too important to be prepared with documentation in case your spouse decides to try and change log-in information etc. preventing you from getting access to these records later on. Do this with urgency to protect yourself and take control of your financial independence.

2. Establish your own credit

In the event that a couple shares credit card accounts, it may be likely that the account is held in one person’s name while the spouse has authorized access to use the credit card. You may be unaware that the account is held solely in your spouses name. This information will need to be figured out because simply having your name on a credit card does not mean that you are establishing any credit. Typically we’ve seen this with a spouse who does not currently work. They have a credit card under the working spouse’s account because of this.

Why do this?

When a divorce occurs, this becomes important. Having a credit card in your own name helps build your credit. You will be better able to be approved for a new mortgage, based on your own qualifications, if you decide you want to purchase a home on your own, or any loan that you may need. This should be done before the divorce proceedings happen. Especially if your spouse earns significantly more than you do or if you didn’t have an income while married. It is a lot easier to get approved for one while still married with a joint income. Also, a credit card can help with the day-to-day expenditures when you’re still figuring everything out in the divorce settlement.

3. Review and revise beneficiaries, wills, health proxy, power of attorneys and other estate plans

When two people get married, it is not uncommon for them to make each other their beneficiary, health proxy, power of attorney, executor etc. When you’re married, you want your spouse to be the beneficiary and you believe they will carry your wishes out should something happen to you. This changes when a divorce occurs and should be looked at carefully.

Why Do This?

When you know you’ll be separating ways it is best to review and revise these. Change each of them to reflect the current situation. You may want to consider using a family member of your own or children if any are of age to do so. It is best to review them with a trusted individual and most financial advisors would be willing to help you with this process.

4. Adjust your budget for your new financial independence

Many married couples have two incomes coming into the household. You get used to spending at a certain level without feeling any financial pressure. This level is typically more than you would be spending when you were single and operating on your own salary. When you are entering into a divorce, it’s time to adjust your budget and become acutely aware of where your money is going. To do this, start by taking an objective look at what your new budget will be. Look at the expenses that are necessary and then look at ones that you would be able to eliminate. Create a new budget you can commit to on your own.

Why do This?

All too often we see a recently divorced woman or man trying to live the same lifestyle as they did when married. It can be a harsh reality when they realize this can no longer happen. Any reduction in income takes some time to get used to. You may have to sacrifice shopping trips, golf outings, getting your nails done, or other luxuries you were able to comfortably afford as a married couple. Understand that life is changing. Doing this step will help you find your new financial independence and put you in the best position for your financial future.

5. Surround yourself with those who will support you

Going through a divorce most likely won’t be cut and dry. Any situation that involves emotions from 2 or more parties makes it difficult. Sometimes divorces are sudden… and some times it is a long time coming. No matter how the divorce has transpired, it is extremely important to surround yourself with people who support you. Especially in a time where a lot of decisions will need to be made.

Why do this?

You need to surround yourself with those concerned with your best interests. Divorces can hold feelings of resentment or distaste towards the other spouse. When emotions are all over, people may do things that they wouldn’t normally do, out of spite. Have the support behind you to make sure you stick up for yourself but also be there to tell you when it’s best to put your pride aside and come to an agreement.

In Conclusion:

Going through a divorce can be an emotional and even traumatic event. Just remember, it doesn’t define who you are. You WILL make it through this and your life WILL move on. Be mindful to protect yourself in the process and be confident that you can start again with new financial independence! Consider each of these 5 steps to take when getting divorced. Hold your support system close and don’t be afraid to call in some professional advice.

Most financial advisors will be able to guide you through this process and help you make good decisions that are in your best interest. If you are from Buffalo or Western New York, we would be happy to review your situation and offer suggestions. Call us at 716-662-4470 to schedule your free consultation.

Buying Bowling Equipment

You can walk into almost any bowling alley today and find a pro shop ready to sell you any type of equipment that you may need to take your game to the next level. My writing about the bowling industry has taken a bit of a turn towards the increasing cost to participate in the sport. One of the biggest costs that the avid bowler faces is the cost of bowling equipment.

The state of the game today, much like in many sports, has been greatly affected by technology. If you do not have the best equipment, you are at a disadvantage to your competition. This comes with a cost. It is not uncommon for bowling balls to cost over $ 200. Most avid bowlers have 3 or more bowling balls in their arsenal. A bowling bag for three bowling balls can cost you over $ 100, and top of the line shoes are in the triple digits as well. With these three essentials in bowling, you are looking at an $ 800 investment.

There are some ways that you can cut costs. Of course, there are some lower performance bowling balls that you can purchase. It is suggested that you speak with a coach or pro shop operator who might be able to analyze your game to determine the best way to select your arsenal.

In my opinion, buy everything off the internet, except for new bowling balls. You can buy the bowling ball off the internet as well, but the reason I don't is twofold. First, when you receive the bowling ball in the mail, you still have to go get it drilled. From what I have seen, this usually costs around $ 50. So, by the time you have paid for the ball online, shipping, and drilling, you can probably get it cheaper from the pro shop. It can cost more with inserts, thumb slugs, etc. Second, you can buy the bowling ball off the internet and have them drill it, but unless you are extremely knowledgeable about how to layout equipment. Me personally, I'm just very picky about my equipment and want to be there while it's being drilled.

Another great way to find some of this equipment at a reasonable cost is through Craigslist. Beware, any searches I have attempted usually come back with a majority of the stuff that has been in someone's attic since the 1970's, but you may find a diamond in the rough once in a while.

Buying new bowling equipment is one of my favorite things. I hope these ideals help you save as much money as they have for me, which allows me to buy even more new equipment!

Daily Supplement Arsenal – Supplements for Mass and Strength

There are indeed a ton of supplements on the market and new ones are coming out every day. It’s hard to know what to take, what works, and what doesn’t work. Sure, the pro bodybuilders post their supplement regimens in magazines but most of them are endorsed by supplement companies, so these serve more as advertisements. How do we know what they really take? And are professionals of any sport really going to throw their secrets out there for their competition to see; probably not. So, though I’m nowhere near a professional bodybuilder I’m going give you a supplement plan that I’ve found that works for me. Remember, I said this works for me; it may not work for you, or you may get better results than I do. Either way, here it is.

First of all I’m going to give you a list of supplements I take regularly then I’ll map out the actual plan (times, amounts, and so forth). In my opinion, there are only a hand-full of tried and true supplements that have been proven to work.

Here’s my list (in no particular order):

Dymatize Elite Gourmet Protein (Chocolate)

VPX NO Shotgun

VPX NO Synthesize

Scivation Xtend

Gaspari Nutrition Novedex

Primaforce Creaform

Primaforce Glutaform

Here’s the basic layout of how I take the above supplements (each is 1 serving unless otherwise specified):

Pre workout: VPX NO Shotgun

During Workout: Scivation Xtend

Post Workout 1 (between weights and cardio): VPX NO Synthesize

Post Workout 2: 2 scoops of Dymatize Elite Gourmet Protein (with milk, a banana, and honey) + Primaforce Creaform and Primaforce Glutaform with grape juice

Between Meals: 2 scoops of Dymatize Elite Gourmet Protein

Before Bed: 2 servings of Primaforce Glutaform and Novedex (2 capsules. 1 serving)

To sum this up, my main arsenal is whey protein and straight forms of creatine and glutamine. In my opinion, the old school creatine monohydrate with grape juice is the most effective forms of creatine. Glutamine is important for recovery. Branched chained amino acids help aide sustainable energy during a workout (Xtend). Personally, I feel I need some sort of pre workout and I only take the post workout Synthesize because I like to have something immediately after the weights before I do my 30 minutes of cardio. The Novedex is a natural testosterone booster and helps reduce estrogen levels. Skeptical at first, I’ve found this to be very effective and have noticed strength gains and muscle hardness from it.

This is my supplement arsenal during the week; I workout five days a week and take weekends off. With that being said, if I do anything at all on the weekends I may hit cardio once. I usually take a break from supplements on the weekends though with the exception of protein and if I’m taking something like Novedex I’ll stay on that as it requires you take it every day to be the most effective. But I lay off the pre workout, post workout, and creatine supplements on the weekends. I will still take glutamine before going to bed.

Team Spirit – What Causes It?

Watching the matches in the FIFA world cup, I notice that the national line-ups apparently vary as to team spirit. You might wonder why this matters. Why is team spirit important? What brings it about? And what hinders it?

Sweden’s team spirit

After eliminating very good teams, Holland and Italy in qualifying, Sweden played their part, in sending defending champions Germany home early, by topping Group F. They lack individual talented players, but as a team with a collective spirit they’ve got heart and stand up to the challenge. They do well through determination and organisation.

«Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.» (Helen Keller, deaf/blind political activist)

In keeping with his no-frills squad, the manager had not picked Sweden’s all-time top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The player had angered many of his former fans with what were seen as characteristically self-obsessed comments.

«As a team, we play as a collective, all the players together. With Zlatan, as a person, as a player, he’s an individualist, and the play goes around him. Instead, now, we play more the team all together.» (goalkeeper, Karl-Johan Johnsson).

Every single player has bought into the idea of working hard for each other and having fun together as a bigger group outside the pitch.

Leicester City’s team spirit

Winning the English Premier league, Leicester City is another football team whose performance has exceeded what might have been expected from the sum of its parts.

Leicester had some good players, but looking at the whole squad and comparing it to the so-called «top» clubs, it’s easy to see why they were such long shots to lift the title.

«You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime.» – (Babe Ruth, baseball player)

Pundits spotted the players’ sense of team identity as a crucial factor in their success. The squad knew the manager would be there the following season. He persisted with most of the first team players he inherited. This continuity built on the legacy of the club, another cornerstone of a strong team identity.

Team spirit was also helped by the players viewing the objective of the club (i.e. avoid relegation) as one they were capable of achieving. So there was no fear of failure.

Many technical sides defend by playing lots of safe passes and so not letting the opposition have the ball. However, possession makes for a poor predictor of team performance. City were not afraid to play three misplaced passes if the forth move led to a goal. Team members felt positive and proud to be part of a group playing a successful fast-paced counter-attacking brand of football.

Other football teams

Boys playing football need to learn to pass the ball unselfishly rather than dribble past opponent after opponent until they lose the ball. They need to be a team player and not purely an individualist. Some flair adult players have been encouraged to succeed at the expense of collaboration when it is needed.

Professional football squads in England include highly rated players from other countries. These tend to have dissimilar languages, cultures, values and problem-solving approaches to difficulties. This can hamper the growth of team spirit.

Most football managers realise that team spirit can be hindered by voicing criticism of players in public. However leaders vary in their team building skills.

Trade Unions

Without any emerging team spirit within a trades union, industrial disputes would fail. Unity is strength. Members need to identity with the cause and trust each other to sacrifice short-term income. Then they have a chance to negotiate from strength and gain better working conditions and pay in the future.

Personal services

Worker’s morale is important in all walks of life. For example in many organisations dealing with human troubles and personal change – like educational, health and social services, or those to do with spirituality – team spirit can be fragile when one is faced with difficult-to-succeed-with-clients.

Many of these organisations use teams of workers with different types of professional training who may not see eye to eye. Dealing with complex and highly personal matters raises matters of deep principle. This can mean that people can be unwilling to modify how they approach things, leading to a degree of inflexibility. Leaders can help by team building encouraging the giving and receiving of support, communication and sharing. Without this, mixed groups tend to show disharmony as well as collaboration.

«Teamwork begins by building trust. And the only way to do that is to overcome our need for invulnerability.» (Patrick Lencioni, business management writer)

Unpaid volunteers tend to want to carry out their responsibilities on their own terms. With volunteers doing only short hours, team spirit suffers if members have little opportunity all to meet together to resolve different viewpoints.

Heavenly community spirit

When we make friends, we tend to do so with people who share our interests and values. With them we often feel most at home and free to be ourselves. It may be hard to imagine such a sphere where community spirit prevails. Emanuel Swedenborg painted such a picture of heavenly community. In such a scenario there are no rows about how things get done. No egos wanting their own way. People joining together in the right spirit. Only wanting what is best for each other and for the team and community as a whole.

«None of us, including me, ever do great things. But we can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful.» (Mother Teresa, Roman Catholic nun)

Who are the Agents and the Company Behind the Transfer of Theo Walcott?

Theo is on the books of Key Sports Management, and is looked after by Colin Gordon the man who said «Football clubs and chairmen know who in the game is corrupt, so why do they still use them? I would question the motives of a large number of managers, chief executives and chairmen in the game».

In a week when sports management companies and player agents come under the spotlight after a statement issued by Mike Newell the manager of Luton town football club, we ask what is involved in a deal involving the transfer a 16 year old kid to a top premiership club?

Most regular fans who turn up week in week out to watch football in the uk don’t like to dwell to long on what they describe as «those vile leeches» that are behind the move of top players preferring to base there support and loyalty on the game of old played during the 70,s and 80,s.

The position of Southampton football club

Saints are in a corner when it comes to keeping Theo their hand being forced to sell by the footballers agent and management company, Those agents are rumored to have issued an ultimatum to Rupert Lowe, either agree a deal with Arsenal, or Walcott will exercise a release clause in his scholarship contract, meaning he will become a free agent and Saints will only get compensation from a tribunal this is expected to be around £500,000 with a follow on payment of £500,000 after a certain number of games.

The alternative is to sell, with Arsenal the front runners to bag the wonder kid after making an offer of £10 million.

Chelsea are believed to be keeping a close eye on developments with there chairman Roman Abramovich rumored to be ready to step in with an offer of £15 million.

So who could get what out of the Theo Walcott deal?

Taking the transfer of Wayne Rooney who moved from Everton to Manchester united for roughly £25 million during August 2004 as an example:

When Rooney joined United it was reported that Manchester United paid Rooney’s agent an extra fee – «an incentive» – to ensure they got their man.

United paid Proactive Sports Management a sum of £1.5m as recorded in the shareholders statement «Fees payable to Proactive Sports Management Limited in relation to both the acquisition of the player and negotiation of his personal terms», the amount was 2 x Rooney’s first year wage.

With such payments being made to player’s agent’s maybe it is up to the humble fan to speak out?

Just think where that extra 20% on the price of your season ticket next season maybe going.

As for Theo Walcott’s management company as well as the signing on money paid to Key Sports Management and there agent Colin Gordon they will also receive payment for arranging deals for image rights etc, Theo already has a boot deal with Nike gained while he was 14 but you can be sure of more deals and transfer requests to follow as his management company try to do «what is in the players best interest».
