Banal Pictures Or Memorable Photographs From Digital Cameras – 5 Photo Tips

Have you ever been invited to flip through hundreds of pictures taken by a family member or a good friend and found it very boring? It doesn’t matter if it is an old-fashioned color slide show, or a modern production from digital picture files shown by a digital projector, a lot of pictures shown on the television screen or a photo album or scrapbook.

Honestly, most of us find it very boring, unless the photographer is really having some commitment to his or her photography. It helps if the show is including some people you like or some places you are familiar with, or at least have visited. But how can the person who isn’t occupied with photography improve the outcome of photos from digital cameras to get some better and more memorable photographs and to avoid to take too many banal pictures?

I have included a little exercise for the reader who will spend one hour to improve her photography, see the end of the article. Here I run through the most important photo tips, I can give you.

1. Go close on the subject

Most people include too much in the picture, and that makes it messy and less interesting. Decide what you really want to photograph and then exclude most other things, except one or a few persons. Also include something close even when you shoot landscapes.

2. Avoid a messy background

The more uniform in color and texture the background looks like, the sharper and interesting is the main subject becoming.

3. Include one good color in the picture

A common mistake is to try to include as many colors in a photograph as possible. One good color will often do a better job. Especially if it is a bright color. Red and yellow are often regarded as impressive colors if they are used with care. Blue is also a good colour if not that aggressive as red and strong yellow.

4. Include a human dimension in the picture

If possible include a human dimension in the picture. It doesn’t need to be some persons, but something most people can relate to. Pictures of monkeys in the zoo look more interesting if they are showing some behavior that have resemblance with human beings’ behavior compared to pictures with truly nature behavior. A human dimension can be added to many kinds of subjects you want to photograph.

5. When possible shoot several frames of the same subject

When it is convenient for your activities always try to shoot a number of alternative shots – it doesn’t cost you a cent with a digital camera. Really try to make each shot a little different. When time allows it afterwards, make sure to delete all frames except the best one. If no one is really good delete all frames.

When we take pictures it is mostly to be able to remember people, special events and special experience. When these are related to ourselves we might be very tolerant about the level of required quality that is acceptable for a keeper – a picture we want to keep for infinity.

But that kind of pictures aren’t interesting for other people, unless the pictures have some special qualities. Remember how our daily life is filled up with pictures, often taken by really gifted photographers and artists.

A little exercise might help you develop your photography to unknown high levels:

– A. Take your digital camera. Make sure you have plenty of space on the memory card and a fresh battery.

– B. Make sure you remember the list above of photo tips 1-5.

– C. Select five things in your local environment (could be people, settings, pets, flower etc.) and plan how you can take pictures of each thing following the 5 photo tips.

– D. Take at least 10 different pictures with different angels etc. of each of your five things.

– E. Sort the pictures on your computer in two: One best shot selected from each motive as one sample, and the remaining in another sample.

– F. Compare the two groups of photos, and reflect on what you have learned.

If you apply what you have learned you will increase your own satisfaction with your photography because you will be able to create much more memorable photographs and your digital photo shows will be much more appreciated by your guests, friends and family.

What Is League of Legends?

League of Legends is a popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game that has recently exploded into the online gaming scene. The game is published by Riot Games and was first released in 2009 for Mac and PC, the Mac client was later closed down.

The game offers the standard 5v5 game mode available in other MOBA games which pits two teams against each other on a map (called Summoner’s Rift) with the main goal being to destroy the enemies base (Nexus).

League of Legends added a 3v3 option to the MOBA genre and introduced the Dominion gameplay mode. In Dominion players are required to capture and hold five objective points to reduce the enemies Nexus health. This game mode is aimed at creating a faster paced gameplay mode.

Influence Points

Influence Points are the main currency in League of Legends which are given to players for playing games. The amount earned varies based on several factors including the game result, summoner level and the number of bots in the game.

Influence Points (also known as IP) are used to purchase in-game items such as champions and runes.

Riot Points

Riot Points are the other currency available and are available via PayPal, credit/debit card or prepaid Riot Point Game Cards.

Riot Points can unlock rune pages, champions and various boosts (experience and influence points). However, Riot Points cannot be spent on runes. Riot Points can be earned for free through various activities (such as referring friends to League of Legends).

Runes

Runes add a level of customisation to League of Legends. Players can increase a variety of stats such as health, damage, mana regeneration, movement speed and many other stats. This allows players to play the same champion but play them in a different way based on rune and mastery choices.

Champions

Players can choose from over 92 playable champions (and this number continues to grow every week).

Champions must be unlocked with Riot Points or Influence Points before they can be played. However, there are a number of free champions available to play each week to give summoners the option to trial champions before purchasing them. There are many champion types available including assassins, bruisers, supports, casters, junglers and tanks.

Ranked Matches

These games are just like standard games except that players are given a ranking based on the result of the game, this is known as the ELO ranking system which is also used in chess. This system has created what is known as ‘ELO Hell’, a place in the ELO system that is filled with poor players and intentional griefers, this section in the ELO system is hard to escape due to the team nature of the MOBA genre.

Conclusions

The game systems behind League of Legends are the reason for its success among the MOBA game genre. The game continues to take the genre by storm with its 5 million dollar prize pool for the 2012 game circuit. Check out their official website for full details: League of Legends Official Site.

Fatherhood Flaws – Looking Beyond the Faults to Find the Hidden Gems

"You will find that if you really try to be a father, your child will meet you halfway."

– Roger Brault

Right around Father's Day, I heard an announcer – a new father – give a couple of examples of how his own father still helps him out.

"When the engine light on my car is red," said the announcer, "I can call my Dad and he'll come right over and check it out. Or if I have stuff to take to the dump, my Dad will let me borrow his truck. "

The announcer then asked listeners what, as Father Day approaches, our own Dad's mean to us.

And I must confess that when it comes to my Dad, being on hand to help me out with mundane tasks is not what first came to mind. For starters, we don't even live in the same province. Plus he's in a nursing home now and can't remember what he had for lunch, never mind what a red engine light might indicate.

But even at the best of times, those sorts of everyday tasks aren't what I would associate with my Dad anyway. My Dad didn't teach me to fish or drive or mow the lawn. My Mom and my brother's did all that. I was six when my Dad moved out and my parents divorced shortly after. I usually only saw him once a week for dinner.

Though the divorce was a bitter one, to put it mildly, my Mom felt it was important that she keep us kids in the same city as our father. My Dad had just moved all of us to Calgary from Ontario when they decided to split up. But instead of moving us kids back to Ontario, where all her support system was, my Mom made the decision to stay in Calgary as a single mom – just so we could be near our Dad.

In hindsight, I'm really glad she did.

For one of the most important things my Dad did teach me was his love for words. Literature was where his heart was. He was constantly correcting my grammar and challenging me to increase my vocabulary. If I wanted to understand what the heck he was talking about, I needed a dictionary close by to look up the words he was using.

My fondest childhood memory of my Dad is him telling me, over and over again, variations of my favorite bedtime story, The Enormous Egg, by Oliver Butterworth. It's about a kid who finds a huge egg one day in one of the hen's nests. He watches it grow and grow until it hatches into a dinosaur and then chaos breaks out.

My Dad would tell me a made-up shortened version of the story and then at the very end, he'd always have the baby dinosaur walk up to the edge of the cliff and look down. Then my Dad would look at me and say, "And do you know what he said, Maryanne?"

"Yes!" I'd cry. "He'd say, 'It's a long way to Tipperary!'"

My Dad would smile and nod and then he'd sing me the song:

It's a long way to Tipperary

It's a long way to go

It's a long way to Tipperary

To the sweetest girl I know

Goodbye Picadilly

Farewell Leicester's Square

It's a long, long way to Tipperary

But my heart's right there

These days, I find myself telling my friend's kids made-up Scooby Doo stories. Every time I see them, the 6 year-old asks to hear a new Scooby Doo story. Everyone else groans but for some reason, she just can't get enough of them.

My Dad also shared with me his passion for physics and poetry. My mom took me to see plays; my Dad encouraged me to take a playwriting course. As it turns out, because writing plays is the most technically challenging form of writing for me, it is where I have learned and grown the most – as a writer and a person.

And my Dad taught me how to think critically; how to question what I was told. In contrast to my Mom, who had a strong faith in a higher power and took me to church every Sunday, my Dad is an atheist who taught me to doubt everything – and that when it came to organized religion, I ought to pay far more attention to people's actions than what they say their beliefs are.

I had to find my own spiritual path, of course, and perhaps not surprisingly the road I am traveling is pretty much right down the middle – with blind faith on one side and healthy scepticism on the other.

Thanks to aging parents, I am seeing the role that faith can play as people get older. My mom wasn't afraid to die. She knew if it was her time to go, she would be in good hands. My Dad on the other hand, is really struggling because without booze to ease the grief of losing both his memory and his comprehension skills – and no faith in a higher power or life after death, his old age is shaping up to be one of sorrow and frustration.

Though tragic, one of the greatest gifts my Dad inadvertently gave me was to show me the impact of alcoholism. Through his choices, he taught me that if you choose a substance to cope with life, that substance will become your life.

Or, put another way, when your engine light is red and you choose to ignore the warning signs and simply drive faster – or deal with whatever crisis through whatever coping mechanism suits your fancy – at some point, your engine will seize up. Your heart will cease to function properly … and therefore so will you and your life and the lives of those around you. As difficult as this is to write, my father ended up doing me a tremendous service by showing me how not to deal with hurt, loss and grief.

If I didn't have the Dad I did, I don't think I would be a writer. For just as I have my Mother's fierce and compassionate heart, so, too, do I have my Father's inquisitive mind and passion for the written word. Although my parent's marriage wasn't meant to last, the attributes and love they gave us kids live on in all we do.

Fatherhood in its more conventional and practical form came late to my Dad. A few years after he and my Mom were divorced, he married again and they had a son, my half-brother. But when that child was only 10, his mother died of lung cancer. So my Dad, 60 at the time, was left a single Dad to raise him. And raise him well he did – for it is my little half-brother who is my Dad's primary caregiver now and responsible for all decisions on his behalf.

Whatever your relationship is – or was – with your father or the father-like role models in your life, I hope you, too, will have a chance to do a bit of reflecting … on the good and the not-so- good, for there are often hidden gems in both.

One Pound Houses

The cheapest street in Britain. On Wednesday I watched a documentary on Liverpool’s housing scheme – the opportunity to purchase a dilapidated house for a pound and do it up. That sounds like a fabulous idea for those struggling to get on the housing-ladder, and several families had accepted the offer and were eagerly renovating their properties.

However a few problems came to light. Because the area the houses were in was a run down district, there was a lot of crime, vandalizing and even shootings, which was frightening for the new residence. There were only a few sales amid rows of empty houses.

The council had apparently had 2500 enquiries for the properties, why couldn’t they move faster at getting more families in thus creating a thriving community of like-minded people working hard at renovating their homes. A higher occupancy would probably lower vandalism.

Another problem the new purchasers had, was their lack of the skill-set required to repair rooves, flooring and completely renovating a shell. The work obviously had to be completed to a high standard and the new purchasers were working to a small budget and doing as much of the work as possible; also sometimes their work was being destroyed by vandalism.

Some may say why was the council selling off housing stock? They had previously been planned to redevelop the area but funding ran out – but there were benefits to the scheme:

Selling the houses for renovation would bring in council tax.

Homes would be provided.

The area would be tidied up and improved with new residents taking pride in their properties.

An improved district, once everyone had moved in, less crime etc.

It seems to me with a few tweaks the scheme could produce a win-win solution. By selling say 50 houses a month in due course the revenue from council tax could be:

50 houses X £100 CT = £5000 per month. Which isn’t being provided whilst houses are empty!

If council tax was halved for the first 6 months whilst the houses were renovated and tuition/support offered from a team of vetted builders, also doing work at a subsidised rate, this would encourage more people to purchase, and the uptake would be faster. (The revenue raised could help provide the services).

A thriving community would quickly develop, reduced crime in the area, some housing deficit satisfied and revenue form council tax for the future.

As this is only the first episode it will be interesting to see how the project develops, and how the council deal with the arising problems. The program returns next week.

Premier League Preview: Arsenal Vs Liverpool

Premier League match time returns to the Emirates with Arsenal set to host Liverpool in match week 33 on Sunday, April 17, in the second of a two-legged contest.

The first, hosted by Liverpool on August 15, 2010, ended in a 1-1 stalemate. With neither side scoring in the first half, the stalemate was broken immediately after the interval, when Ngog gave Liverpool the lead. Arsenal had Reina in the Liverpool goal to thank for their equalizer when the Reds’ keeper gloved an own goal in injury time. Earlier Liverpool were reduced to 10 men, when Cole was sent off, on the stroke of half-time. Arsenal midfielder Koscielny collected two bookings to reduce the Gunners to 10 men, themselves, in stoppage time.

Their keeper Almunia was the weak link in the Arsenal armour, and for some time, arsene Wenger had been negotiating to wean Fulham’s Schwarzer to take his place. Barring Cole’s sending off, Liverpool gave a good account of themselves, and kept Arsenal’s forwards at bay, for the best part of 90 minutes.

Head to head, Arsenal have established an 8-4 lead over Liverpool in the last 20 league games played between the sides, with the remaining 8 matches drawn.

In their last 10 league games, Arsenal have registered 5 wins and 5 draws, while Liverpool have won 6 of their last 10, while losing and drawing 4 each. Of their 16 home games this season, Arsenal have won 10, and lost and drawn 3 games each, while Liverpool have won 4 of their 16 games on the road, while losing 2 and drawing the remaining 10.

In match week 32, Arsenal won 3-1 away at Blackpool, while Liverpool beat Manchester City 3-0 at home.

Sunday’s game assumes great significance for both teams. Arsenal would seek all of their remaining games, to keep their slender title hopes alive. Similarly, Liverpool, who are currently in 6th place, would want to use the remaining games to best advantage, and try to wrest a European qualification. Expect the Reds to fight hard in a game that will give Arsenal the considerable advantage of playing at home.

Arsenal’s starting eleven against Blackpool had the following players: Lehmann, Eboue, Squillaci, Koscielny, Clichy, Diaby, Fabregas, Wilshere, Nasri, van Persie and Arshavin. Ramsey, Gibbs and Walcott played as substitutes.

Liverpool had the following men in their starting eleven against Manchester City: Reina, Flanagan, Carragher, Skrtel, Aurelio, Kuyt, Lucas, Spearing, Meireles, Suarez and Carroll. Ngog was used as a substitute.

MLS Team Chicago Fire Sign Mexican Soccer Player Nery Castillo

Major League Soccer has been trying for years to gain traction in the heart of American sports fans, but they’ve re-amped their efforts following a wildly successful World Cup. The South African games had more viewers than any previous Cups. Major League Soccer managers and players are hoping that the soccer fever had more to do with the sport than the vuvuzelas, and that excitement for the game will carry into their current season.

With this new American understanding of the sport and its power players, MLS teams are scurrying to sign some of those names to their rosters. Thierry Henry was one of the first players to accept the trade or loan to MLS. The newest player to come to the land of the free is 26-year-old Nery Castillo. The Mexican will be joining the Chicago Fire.

Fire managers say they’ve been working to acquire the star attacker from Ukrainian team Shakhtar Donetsk for about two years, and are excited to finally have him as a designated player on the team. Shakhtar had previously loaned Castillo to Manchester City (in the Premier League) and to another Ukrainian Team, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

Castillo was left off of the World Cup team roster, though he has been playing with the Mexican national team since June 2007. The Chicago Fire is hoping that Castillo can help turn the team around. Their MLS record is 4-5-5 and they have yet to win a non-MLS game this year.

Though Castillo’s deal with Shakhtar and the fire is currently a loan, he is hoping to make the move permanent.

Souness – an Accident Waiting to Happen

Being a Newcastle fan you learn to live more in hope than expectation, yet the one thing we do demand is to be entertained. Graeme Souness was on the verge of the sack from Blackburn Rovers in August 2004 and yet Newcastle United’s walking public relations disaster and part-time chairman, Freddie Shepherd, in his infinite wisdom decided to PAY the Lancashire club for the man’s services! £1.65m later and with several lucrative contracts sorted for Souey’s entourage of a clueless old timer, a few well wishers and his ‘yes’ man Dean Saunders, Newcastle United proudly presented Souness to the media. The new manager spoke in glowing terms about the club and how proud he was that his son would grow up with a Geordie accent. In reality he was probably just amazed that someone had once again been daft enough to employ him.

With one of Souness’ best friends being camp crimper Dale Winton, there is no doubt that the fiery Scot could have got a gig on Supermarket sweep or something equally as testing of his remarkable ‘talents’. That is if he didn’t get angry with Dale hogging the spotlight and as a result launch into a two footed tackle on a shopping trolley. The one time I asked Dale Winton for a favour he didn’t come through for me, damn.

There wasn’t the same fanfare from the Tyneside crowd that was usually afforded to a new manager as Souness made his first appearance at SJP. Keegan and Robson had been hailed as saviours, Dalglish was warmly received and everyone got the wigs out for Ruud Gullit. Not this time though, although the Mags hammered Souness’ previous club 3-0 (Souness was officially on ‘gardening leave’). Blackburn Rovers were a shambles that day and many onlookers questioned how badly they must have been managed to get into such a state. Our new leader just sat in the stands beaming a wide smile next to his son who wore a full Newcastle kit, perhaps hoping that it would speed up the transition of his boy’s soon to be Geordie accent. Fans knew even then what the chairman apparently didn’t until the last few weeks of the Souness tenure – this was an accident waiting to happen.

In my mind there is no doubt that Sir Bobby Robson had passed his sell by date long before he was kicked out of his job as gaffer. Not because he was a 71-year old man who forgot people’s names, he was doing that in his 50’s as England manager (Once calling Bryan Robson ‘Bobby’ to which his captain replied «No gaffer, you’re Bobby, I’m Bryan!»), but because he was making no sense in his tactical decisions and had given his all but looked worn out. With that in mind Robson should have been told that his time was up at the end of the 2003-2004 campaign and could have gracefully moved on. Instead he was sacked just four games into a season, the third consecutive Toon manager to be ousted after a handful of early season games.

Despite all of the concerns over the new man, Souness started well and the club went ten games undefeated under his guidance. A number of fans were ready to accept him and yet there remained an overall feeling of scepticism in the North Eastern air. Mark Hughes was installed at Blackburn and immediately commented on how unfit his players were and that he was appalled with the stories he had heard about the training sessions before he arrived. Most people took his remarks with a pinch of salt at the time, only later did they seem apt.

It was only a matter of time before somebody upset Souness and that man was the volatile Craig Bellamy, the club’s most in-form player and also the most outspoken. Bellamy boasted to players that he would feign injury and refuse to play as he felt he was being wasted on the wings rather than his preferred role up front, Souness reacted by leaving him out of the match at Highbury against Arsenal. Souey claims he was willing to forgive and forget until the player did an interview with Sky Sports saying that his manager: «Went behind my back, right in front of my face.» Of course this showed two things – 1. Craig Bellamy is about as intelligent as a monkey with Alzheimer’s disease and 2. Souness’ man management skills are appalling.

So Bellers was packed off to Celtic on loan and in many ways this was the beginning of the end. The team now lacked creativity and pace. When Kieron Dyer’s old Hamstring/foot/liver/eyebrow injury inevitably recurred the team suddenly looked short of ideas and this is when Souness realised that a creative genius was needed and not content with just one, he managed to find three. Jean Alain Boumsong, to whom defending is such a complicated art, was the first. If £8.5m is what he’s worth then my Mum is the pope’s wife. Then came the great Amady Faye – to this day one of the most under rated players ever…. That is if he is rated as the equivalent of a bag of treacle being eaten by a diabetic man with no taste buds and false teeth. The third of these gems was Celestine Babayaro from Chelsea who is talented but gives about as much effort as Michael Barrymore trying to fish dead bodies out of swimming pools.

Out went talented players such as Olivier Bernard and of course Bellamy who ironically eventually ended up at Blackburn. The team slumped to 14th in the league, injuries mounted up (As they had at Blackburn under Souness) and the only potential saving graces were the cups. The FA cup always looked a long shot; we were in the semi-final but faced an in-form Manchester United. The UEFA cup was more likely to bring us our first major trophy in 50 years, hopes that were soon extinguished. The 2nd of April, 2005, was one of the darkest days in Newcastle United’s 113 year history. Aston Villa came to St James’ park to face a Newcastle side that was unbeaten in nine games; they left with a 3-0 win over the EIGHT players that remained in black and white shirts. Firstly Steven Taylor was sent off for handball (Despite a great impression of a dying swan) and then any hope we still had of salvaging our season evaporated into the overcast sky. Lee Bowyer walked towards Kieron Dyer and started to throw punches at his colleague. Both players were red carded and thereafter criticised heavily in the media, but make no mistake, this was Bowyer’s fault and fans were quick to see that. Be that as it may, it was Souness who was the fall guy as his team went out of both cups with a brace of 4-1 defeats to Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United in the same week. Now nothing was left to disguise the shortcomings of the manager in a miserable inaugural season on Tyneside.

United’s Player Antonio Valencia’s Injury History

In recent times, a great number of injuries have been taking place to football players, while the cause is being investigated, with most evidence hinting at the boots that they wear. They are attempting to figure out the blades are responsible for the injuries, or the regular studs used.

There was another injury that took place to Manchester United’s player Antonio Valencia, while he ended up trapping his foot in attempt to tackle the ball. The tackle in itself was not that severe however it resulted in his leg being snapped badly.

A lot of arguments go against the turf as it is more firm and stronger than it is actually meant to be. Not only this, but also a combination of studs and turf both could be the main problem.

A preference of most players is wearing boots that have bladed studs, as it provides better acceleration while playing the game. While on a firmer ground, they tend to choose the traditional designs of circular stud.

No player is forced to wear a specific brand, nor advised about its advantages or disadvantages. Apart from wearing that brand which sponsors them, they have the liberty to choose anything according to their will.

A type of custom made shoes that go around among most players is a combination of studs and blades both. However if there are too many variations, that could lead to more problems.

Nike seems to be the only considerate brand around as it has a new range with designs such boots which have the greatest amount of stability and resistance being offered.

Nowadays, every single manufacturer makes it a point to have the lightest weighing shoes so that lesser injuries start taking place and the performance of the players can also be improved.

David Beckham

David Beckham is a well-known English football team player. Playing in the England team under the number 7 which makes for him great significance at this 7 number takes him to the heights of success. His football career started with the training sessions at Manchester of FC Barcelona and he gained there well enough training that he played from Manchester against West Ham United in 1986.

His parents were Manchester United’s fan so they help him raising his moral for the football playing professional career. His attributes for number 7 also from the reason being David Beckham debut for UEFA champion’s league on 7th December 1994. Beckham make himself good at right sided midfielder rather than right winger and get his position maintained as a midfielder. He has been playing for Manchester united but despite that he was not in the England team’s squad until Euro 96. He was given number 10 shirts at first but when number 7 shirt players retired he was able to get his lucky number 7 jersey which makes him go all round the world making his name with the prominent figure of 7.

Well his career get little shocked in the 1999-2000 session when he committed a foul and press blamed him that after marriage he isn’t performing well so must be disqualified from the team but manager gave him a chance to strike back for his team. On 10th April 2002 Beckham was injured badly and broke his left metatarsal bone causing severe injury so was unable to play for premiere league at that time.

Well after that injury Manchester United was keen to trade Beckham with FC Barcelona but rather than going for Barcelona Beckham signed a 35 million euros contract with Real Madrid and started his career in Real Madrid’s team in 2003. In July 2204 while Beckham was in Spain for his training a man tried to assassinate him taking petrol cane inside his house trying to burn the whole apartment but guard stop him making Beckham his wife Victoria and his children safe.

On 11th January 2007 Real Madrid’s coach announced that Beckham will not be any more the part of his team so Beckham announced his new team contract which he was going to join on 1st July 2007 with Los Angeles Galaxy. In the meantime he was asked to come to Hollywood for a movie so he becomes half star as well as a football player and get a good interaction with Tom Cruise as well.

In the 2008 he was loan to Milan for a time being where he played for a little while and said he will not be staying in A.C Milan for long but will return to Los Angeles Galaxy soon. So he backed up for Galaxy in 2009 again making his career in Los Angeles Galaxy again. In November it was announced that Beckham will be again loan with Milan for the second time in January 2010 and he was again played for A.C Milan for the next time.
