How to Achieve Six Packs With Ab Exercises and a Personalized Diet

Ask any of the guys walking along the road if they wished to have a six pack and most of them would say yes. Why are there even ladies out there who are working to get ripped abdominal for themselves? Some people have the idea that all you need for a six pack is to do an ab fitness exercise thrice each week. Although it may be a solution to some, for others it may not be sufficient.

The fact is, in order to be successful in attaining your visible six pack, you need to work on reducing your body fat. Or else any muscles gained from your routines will be covered by a stubborn layer of fat. One way you can reduce the body fat is to ensure proper food intake along with a proper fitness workout routine.

Types of Workouts

In order to get the results you want, you do not need fancy machines or strenuous ab exercise routines. All you need to learn to do is sit ups, oblique crunches and leg raises. To further maximize your workouts, you may combine the routines as described above to form a great ab workout and exercise. The trick for this is to continue with your routine until you can feel the burn, after which you will have to repeat each sessions two or three times every week.

It is advisable to work your abs on alternate days as your body need some time to recover from your extensive routines. Once you stick with this, you will soon have a strong midsection. Remember to alternate between the routines in order to continuously challenge your body for better results. Add this to your healthy eating habits and you will surely be able to see your six packs developing well.

Create your Personal Fitness Diet

An important factor in maintaining a balance with your routines is to increase your daily intake of vegetables, fruits, lean meats and plenty of water. You should try to minimize your intake of fattening and sodium filled foods and other processed food. Instead of grabbing that can of soda, switch to plain water or healthier choices like tea or fruit juice. Try to understand what your body is telling you and eat the food you feel well shortly after. Stop eating junk food and food that makes you feel poorly. Once you are more conscious about your eating habits, achieving your six packs is just a few steps away.

Cardio Routines

In special cases, eating healthily and practicing regular ab exercise fitness routines may not be sufficient. For people with too much body fat, it might be crucial for them to include a session of cardio in order to burn the extra fat away around their midsection. Cardio workouts include squats, jumps, mountain climbers or even jumping jacks. Repeat these for 1 minute to boost and add intensity to your routines.

However, remember that there is no way to spot and reduce. This means that you will burn fats all over your body and not just targeting your midsection. With patience and perseverance, you will ultimately see that fat melting away. Include some sessions of biking, running, or even walking to increase your metabolism. This helps to further burn the extra fat and it helps to tone your body to develop the body you have always wanted. Intake of fat burners should be discussed with your doctor.

Recognizing Symptoms of Mold Exposure

If you or someone you love has been exposed to mold, there are many symptoms that will present themselves. While obvious, they often go unchecked because they're very similar to the ones of health problems that aren't as serious like the cold or flu. Naturally any recurring health problem is usually a sign of a more serious problem, in this case it could mean that you have a mold infestation in your home.

The first defense you have in the fight against mold is to familiarize yourself with the symptoms. This is the biggest tool you have to protect yourself against the dangers of exposure to mold.

Prevention of mold exposure can be done through home testing by a professional. This can be a costly procedure, but it is an investment well worth the money. Mold can, in rare cases, cause death so it's very important to prevent recurring mold exposure since the problems tend to get more severe with each outbreak.

Physical Symptoms

There are numerous physical signs of an exposure to mold. Some of them can be extremely mild like a mild allergy outbreak. Other signs can be more severe and include seizures and upper respiratory infections. The more toxic the mold, the more severe symptoms you'll experience. The same holds true if you're repeatedly exposed to mold for longer periods of time.

After mold exposure you may experience brittle nails and hair loss. Cold-like feelings like a stuffy nose, runny nose and sore throat are also common. You may experience frequent nosebleeds. On the more alarming end of continuing mold contact, you may get cancer, experience anaphylaxis (trouble breathing), have reproductive organ complications or loose large amounts of weight. If the more serious symptoms of mold exposure get worse, there is also the risk of death. This is rare, but not impossible.

Psychological Symptoms

Signs of mold contact can also affect your psychological health. You might loose your memory abilities. There's the possibility of an increased risk of anxiety and depression. Fatigue can be a problem, as can insomnia. These are often misdiagnosed and improperly treated. Medications used to treat these without dealing the cause will produce little or no results. Left untreated, there's the potential that they become more serious physical problems that could lead to death.

Treatment Of Symptoms

Symptoms of mold exposure have, in the past, been diagnosed as other health problems because they appear to be another non-mold related problem. Misdiagnosis will most of the time result in more serious health problems. You may be affected with mold fungi if you've been treated for any of the above treatments, but haven't received any relief.

If you're finding that you're constantly sick, or a family member who lives with you is regularly sick, you may have a mold problem, especially if the medical treatments don't seem to be working. It may be a good idea to get your home inspected by a professional mold inspector.

Mold doesn't need to be toxic to inflict you and your family with the symptoms. For your own piece of mind, it's always a good idea to have your home regularly inspected for mold. Doing so could prevent serious problems of mold exposure later on.

Buying Bowling Equipment

You can walk into almost any bowling alley today and find a pro shop ready to sell you any type of equipment that you may need to take your game to the next level. My writing about the bowling industry has taken a bit of a turn towards the increasing cost to participate in the sport. One of the biggest costs that the avid bowler faces is the cost of bowling equipment.

The state of the game today, much like in many sports, has been greatly affected by technology. If you do not have the best equipment, you are at a disadvantage to your competition. This comes with a cost. It is not uncommon for bowling balls to cost over $200. Most avid bowlers have 3 or more bowling balls in their arsenal. A bowling bag for three bowling balls can cost you over $100, and top of the line shoes are in the triple digits as well. With these three essentials in bowling, you are looking at an $800 investment.

There are some ways that you can cut costs. Of course, there are some lower performance bowling balls that you can purchase. It is suggested that you speak with a coach or pro shop operator who might be able to analyze your game to determine the best way to select your arsenal.

In my opinion, buy everything off the internet, except for new bowling balls. You can buy the bowling ball off the internet as well, but the reason I don’t is twofold. First, when you receive the bowling ball in the mail, you still have to go get it drilled. From what I have seen, this usually costs around $50. So, by the time you have paid for the ball online, shipping, and drilling, you can probably get it cheaper from the pro shop. It can cost more with inserts, thumb slugs, etc. Second, you can buy the bowling ball off the internet and have them drill it, but unless you are extremely knowledgeable about how to layout equipment. Me personally, I’m just very picky about my equipment and want to be there while it’s being drilled.

Another great way to find some of this equipment at a reasonable cost is through Craigslist. Beware, any searches I have attempted usually come back with a majority of the stuff that has been in someone’s attic since the 1970’s, but you may find a diamond in the rough once in a while.

Buying new bowling equipment is one of my favorite things. I hope these ideals help you save as much money as they have for me, which allows me to buy even more new equipment!

A Scary Thing Called Love in China

Introduction:

In China many young girls dissatisfied with the traditional Chinese man are seeking a foreign boyfriend, love and eventually a husband. In this article we will examine some typical case studies as seen in counselling sessions where young women come to seek solace, explanations and support after breakdowns from relationships with foreign men. To protect the identities of the clients some details have changed and names but the essential psychological trauma are common.

So why do many Chinese girls want foreign men? To answer this would take an article in itself so here I will just precis a short over-view. (See Dr. Myler’s article the Chinese Patient) First many of these girls come from the main cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan and Guangzhou (we discount Hong Kong as it is too Westernised) they have been exposed to a variety of Western media, movies, magazines, fashion and life-style influences. This media show the Western men as romantic, kind, supportive, handsome, sexual and strong, all very appealing attributes to many young girls ideas about Mr. Right. The Western men they meet daily in China are however not typical of the average American, Englishman or Europeans but are the educated, from higher social classes, above average income and alone in China for the most part. If you add these two elements together you get a good idea of how Chinese girls view Western men as something special. However as in cognitive dissonance they tend to ignore all the warning signs that they would normally associate with other relationships. In the West we would phrase this as rose-tinted-glasses or the «Halo Effect». Also most Chinese girls are less mature than similar aged girls in the West. They tend to have less experience with men in general and no sex education at school. It is amazing to ask even basic questions about pregnancy and sex and find they are unclear, confused and ignorant of even the basics of protection and disease. (Speaking to a 24 year old here is like talking to a 15 year old in the West – that is the best analogy for their maturity). In conclusion you may ask why they do not want to be with a Chinese man. Most have already had boyfriends finding that on average Chinese men are too traditional, controlling, uncaring and put their mother before the wife or girlfriend in all things. So with disappointments already in their mind they go off and seek the ideal Western man who they think will deliver them from their unfulfilled lives. One other important aspect with age is social pressure in China for a girl to marry before she is 26 years old. If they miss this deadline, then parents, friends and others all start a fear process of men will not want old women (they mean 30) and your babies will die if you have them too late. Of coarse this is all a non-sense in the modern world, but the girls all seem to believe beyond doubt that is you are 27 and above you have no chance of a good marriage. So many almost panic and marry the first man who asks – even if love is not in the equation. They quickly have a baby and then tell everyone how miserable they are in a love-less marriage with a man they can barely stand to touch them. Sad but often true here in China. So for these older single girls, Western men who care little about their age seem like manor from heaven.

The Scenario:

Most girls find a Western man in five distinct ways, first the work-place, many International companies set up offices in China to take advantage of cheap labour, inexpensive rents and huge potential home markets. Along with this they send their senior managers and staff to guide the Chinese workers in their practices. Many Chinese want to work for foreign companies as the pay is higher on average and have better working environments. The second is the teachers, at language schools, universities and other educational outlets the native speaking teacher is king. Teachers tend to be more out-going, confident and have a charisma that young girls do not usually see in their own teachers. Third is the club scene where young Western men, on short-term contracts, are looking for entertainment and company. Fourth the bars, much like the clubs but more relaxed atmosphere and less noisy. Finally the fifth and most popular way of meeting Western men is the internet. Chat sites and dating sites are in the hundreds here. Many girls from 18 years to 100 looking for Western boyfriends via this medium. Often with little of no English except written, so even when they arrive for that coveted date they cannot communicate sufficiently to make an impression. So with all these ways of meeting Western men why are so many of the girls frustrated by not finding a suitable man or date? Here we have to break the myth of Western men in the eyes of Chinese girls.

The Myths

The first myth concerns money, most Chinese girls think western men are rich. This is because on average even a teacher in a low income school will earn three times the monthly average of a Chinese teacher. However in many companies the foreigner is paid via his home-office at the rate he would be paid in the normal home position. In this case he will be earning considerable income compared to a Chinese worker doing the same task. This gives the false impression to girls that the man is wealthy at home. However for most foreign workers here at home they are middle class at best and many of course just working men. At home they would in a social scale of income be lower to middling at best. (I exclude the businessmen here). So while in China they can afford the best apartment, the best restaurants and clothing – at home this is clearly not the case in general.

The second myth is handsomeness. When you first come to China as a man the first thing you see is hundreds of pretty, delicate girls who are like spring flowers. In time familiarity tends to tone this down by noticing many are far too thin for western tastes, many have pock-marked faces and bad complexions. Then you begin to discriminate between the ok, the pretty and the beautiful. This is a natural process of becoming familiar with any race. So you have to imagine this in reverse, the Chinese girls tend to think most foreign men look handsome, however because the exposure is quite small and limited – they do not tend to become so familiar to them from a perception point of view. So they continue to see most of them as handsome, even though to the Westerner’s eyes the attractiveness seems to be an illusion. However if enough pretty girls tell you, you are handsome – then you may start to believe it. Often that calls for a dose of reality on the part of the man to stop vanity taking over your thinking.

The third myth is intentions. The Chinese girl listens to the Westerner’s sweet words, praise, support and caring attitude but unlike a Western woman who may be able to sift the salt from the sugar, the Chinese girls takes it all in as perfectly reasonable. Many are later shocked by the idea that he did not actually mean a lot of what was said and was in fact seducing them. Seduction by a Western man is more subtle over-all than a Chinese man’s approach. The Chinese man is more practical talking about security, family, home and long term goals. Where-as the Westerner is thinking more often about short-term goals of sexuality and companionship. Very few Westerners are looking for a wife, long term partner or commitments – they are here today, gone tomorrow.

The fourth myth is about a twist in history. Western men always have a good storey to tell of woe and misery in their love life. Chinese girls find this irresistible, their mothering instincts fairly bound into play. You can almost hear them saying, «oh poor you, let me comfort you». What they fail to appreciate is that these men already have failed relationships in the past or have girlfriends and wives waiting back home for them but this of course is rarely mentioned. So the history they hear is a fabrication on the truth for the benefit of their-would be suitors. You may think I am being a little harsh here on Western men’s integrity but this insight comes mainly from Chinese women who have a broken heart and a story of their own to tell.

Myth five – it is better in the West. From the media depicting life styles of the rich and famous you could forgive the Chinese girl for believing this is how everyone lives. Just as before I came to China I thought they would all be wearing Chairman Mao suits and short hair only to find modern western dress and a McDonalds at very street corner next to KFC. While certainly living standards in the West are over-all more advanced than China as a whole, this is not true of China’s main cities. Shanghai for example would rival any western city such as New York, London or Rome for night-life, art, events and living standards.

Examples:

Lily: 24 – Westerner (France) Met in bar, she was a virgin, he single and looking. After three months – he left her for another girl. After the relationship Lily discovers she is his 30th girl in two years.

Sophia: 22 – Westerner (American) already she had left an older man (50) who she loved but knew her family could not accept – so found a young man of 24. After six months his contract ended and without a goodbye left China. He told his French friend he could have her as he did not need her anymore and she was easy. The girl accepts the next man and marries him – despite the fact she is not in love.

Dolly: 27 – Western (Italian) after many promises of marriage she gives up her virginity to what she believes is her future husband. Two months later he is bored with her sexually and leaves her for another girl. Dolly makes a suicide attempt to try and keep him. He has no interest in her games of drama and goes back to Italy.

Elaine 25 – Westerner (English) having met when she was 21, she fell in love with a man of 51. After four years they are still together and happy. However he is her number one secret. She does not tell her work colleagues or her family and friends. He is unhappy being her secret but accepts the culture and tries to be patient. He knows at some point she will leave him under family pressure to marry a traditional boy.

Margaret 37 – Alone (No-one) despite some boyfriends when young she continues to dedicate herself to her business interests with little time for men. She is still living at her family home despite her success at work. She does not date. Recently she has met an English man who likes her – but she cannot commit as her family would never accept her even dating a foreigner. At her age no Chinese man is interested in her as she is seen as no longer viable for a baby. She sees her future as being alone.

Joan 32 – Westerner (Australian) having dated one foreigner after another she is alone most of the time. She believes that a Mr. Right is out there for her if she can just find him on the internet. Every night she searches for men – offering marriage and her sexual contact. Recently she has dated an Australian man (27) but he only wants a sex partner and so she agrees in the hope he will get to like her.

Daisy 23 – Westerners’ (many) she drifts from one man to another in the hope of finding the right one – most use her sexually and then dump her quickly. She talks of getting married to them almost in the first date and the first conversation. Western men quickly realise she is a desperate girl and easy to use her. At the moment she is alone after therapy to give her insight into her behaviour.

Conclusion:

The conclusion is obvious, Chinese girls get hurt and often. Many Chinese girls will read this paper and say, «well these girls are stupid» and maybe they are right, however when talking to these women they all have the same traditional thinking and want simply to find a good man to be with and more important to marry. The Western men love them and leave them in quick succession. It is not that Western men are bad people, they simply put less emphasis on relationships that they see as simply short term dating and that sexual contact is a normal part of a relationship even if it is not one they see as lasting or leading to something more. Of course many Western men enjoy the company of a gracious, sexy, smart Chinese girl and they too can fall in love and completely commit to the relationship like any other. Many do go on to marry their Chinese girlfriends and produce offspring (that are considered to be very beautiful in their looks having a mixture of East and West). Many of Asia’s top models, singers and actresses have mixed parentage and are seen as exceptionally good looking. This may also explain there psychological appeal to both Western and Chinese audiences. Another aspect of course is once the couple do try to make a go of things – the Western man now has to face her family. Westerners’ underestimate the power of family in China. If he cannot be accepted by the family he may find despite her deep love for him she will in fact end the relationship rather than lose her family. For a Chinese girl being ostracised by the family is about the worse thing that can happen to her. So if it is a choice between her Western boyfriend and her mama and baba – you can bet she will do as her family demands of her. Many Western men get very angry about how their girlfriend puts her family first and them second – they are not used to the situation where when her mama says do this and do that – the girl obeys – even if she is deeply in love – she will on most occasions do what the family tells her.

This article is not to put off Chinese girls and Western men having relationships but perhaps it will help to open their eyes to the realities of dating and falling in love with someone who has a different take on the world of relationships and love. Cultures can mix successfully and a happy future can pursue. However with divorce rates at an all time high in the West relationships can be seen as disposable and not permanent as in the past. Also as stated with strong family ties in China, Western men can too become victims of love and rejection when family takes a hand in the relationship. Some Chinese girls are strong enough to defy the wished of their parents in the knowledge that under the one baby policy in China, her parents only have one daughter – and they may not risk losing their future support when they are old because of a prejudice against her choice of husbands. Life is never easy and love is not always smooth.

Discover Photography: The Art of the Image

Since the time of Stone Age Man, when images of the animals and men hunting were first used to decorate the walls of cave, we have been fascinated by the captured image. Although it was not until the invention of photography that truly made this fascination into an art form that everyone could enjoy regardless of artistic ability. People all over the world take pictures of themselves, relatives and friends, pets and landscapes whether or not there is a particular circumstance or reason for doing so. But how much do we actually know when it comes to photography? Below are some of the different kinds of photography that will help us learn more about the different ways of taking photographs.

Amateur Photography has grown in recent years with the advent of cheep digital cameras and this digital photography that has become easily accessible to the amateur due to the low cost of both equipment and reproduction of the images, that we will have a brief look at in this article.

Black and White or Monochrome Photography

The first are to consider is black and white or monochrome photography. This is not simply presenting an image in black and white. Black and white photography explores the contour and character, tone and texture, the aesthetic art and beauty of the subject. The two components of black and white photography that give depth and feeling to the image are the shadows and highlights, if we learn to use them then we can create great images.

Color sometimes obscures the texture and form of subjects, it draws our attention the way flowers attract insects and birds, and ripe fruit catches your eye on a tree. Sometimes that's what we want, but black and white can emphasize the texture of the subject.

The variety of ways that different colors convert to different greys means that you can have quite fine control over just what parts of your picture will be light and dark, in addition to lighting levels. The absence of light can be as important as the highlights. Good deep shadows can give a depth and solidity to an image. It allows us to separate out the effects of color and luminosity, put another way black and white photography allows us to use color more effectively.

Action Photography

Action Photography may be where the photographer takes pictures of sporting event, or of children playing, anything intact where there is movement. Either set the shutter speed to freeze the action or try a slower shutter speed to blur the movement. This blur effect can create the sense of drama and movement. If the subject is moving across the frame try to track the subject, this is called panning, the effect once perfected is the subject is sharp but the background has the movement blur giving the impression of speed.

Shooting Action Shots of Athletes, people and animals in motion, and other moving objects create wonderful photo opportunities. However, capturing fast action on a digital camera can be challenging.

Certain settings on many digital cameras allow photographers to photograph action in a point-and-shoot mode specifically designed for moving subjects. Other times it is up to the photographer to manipulate the digital camera to achieve the best possible photos.

Digital cameras with less shutter lag capture better action shots. Regardless of your camera's specifications, you can further minimize shutter lag by pre-focusing before you snap the picture. To do this, hold down the shutter button halfway and then once the camera has focused; press it down all the way to take the shot.

Fast shutter speed allows photographers to capture great shots of moving subjects. If your digital camera supports a slower shutter speed, it is still possible for you to shoot some wonderful action shots. It may take some practice, but try panning the camera, keeping the lens on the subject's action.

Shoot in continuous mode if it is available to you. You might feel like the paparazzi when you first get started, but you will love how this quick mode does not let you miss a shot! Digital cameras that support continuous shooting work nicely for action shots because they are able to write all the photos to memory at the same time instead of one by one.

Anticipate the action and position yourself accordingly. If you are shooting sports, camp out by the goal line or find a good location where you can get clear shots of the athletes.

Invest in a good lens. Many action shots will benefit most from a digital camera with a 200mm lens, though you can interchange lenses for different effects. Zoom lenses work wonders for sports action shots.

Aerial Photography

Aerial Photography is best if you want to photograph a landscape or cityscape. Sadly we can't all afford to have our own helicopter, but great effects can be achieved from the top of tall buildings, bridges or mountains. So although true aerial photography may be out of reach, we can still have the illusion of aerial photography.

Travel Photography

Travel Photography is not just about your holiday snaps. It is about capturing something of the feel, the emotion, the essence of a place. It is about telling the story of the people and the landscape; It captures the mood and the setting. But you don't need expensive foreign holidays; travel photography can be your record of the next town or city or even neighborhood. As a is an exciting local city for me to explore, but with the added advantage that it is not far to travel to.

When photographing people in their local context there are a number of techniques that I try to use but keep in mind the principle of treating people with respect.

I've already talked about making shots contextual but one great way to do this is to think about what's in the background behind the people you're photographing. Ideally you want something that's not too distracting but that adds to the context of the place you're shooting in. Another technique for shooting shots of people that ignores the 'contextual' rule is to find a brightly lit position with a dark background. This can really help the face you're shooting to pop out and capture the viewer's attention.

Some of the best shots I've taken of people while traveling have been where I've tightly frames people faces. This means either getting in close to the person or having and using a good zoom lens.

Go for natural (un-posed shots) – While sometimes the posed shots can work quite well they can also lack a certain authenticity. Photograph your subject doing something from their normal daily life, at work, the marketplace, home, or just crossing the street etc.

Most of the shots I've taken of people over the years while traveling have been of single subjects alone in the shot. This is partly just my style but is something I've become quite aware of in the last few months. Adding a second person into an image takes a photo into a different place. No longer is the shot just about a person and their environment but it somehow becomes relational. The viewer of the photo begins to wonder about the relationship and a new layer is added to your image.

Quite often it's the shots of people dressed in national costume that tend to attract photographers when traveling. While these shots can be very effective I wonder if they are always really representative of a culture. Quite often these people have dressed up especially for a show or tourist attraction and the majority of people in that country look quite different. Mix up the types, gender and ages of the people you take photos of and you can end up with a very effective collage of faces of a country.

It goes against the nature of most travel photography which is usually very fast and spontaneous, but if you can spend time with people, if you have the opportunity to sit with a person for a longer period of time and photographed them in a more extended manner This enables you to tell the story of the individual and can lead to some wonderful sequences of shots using different photographic techniques, lenses and situations, while the person becomes more relaxed around the camera.

Keep your camera to the eye for taking those spontaneous shots between the more posed ones. It's amazing what images that you can find when the person isn't 'ready' for you to shoot. These shots often include people interacting with others or expressing true emotion. I find setting my camera to continuous shooting mode often leads to some wonderful candid shots. If conditions permit don't replace your lens cap until you pack your camera away.

When it comes to choosing lens, I find that a focal length between 24mm and 135mm is a good range to work with. Going for wide angle lenses can also produce interesting shots but you will often find that they do distort your subject's face a little. Choosing a longer focal length can be useful for putting your subjects a little more at ease.

Underwater Photography

Underwater Photography has become more accessible with the advent of cheep underwater cameras. Whether you intend to take photograph in a pool, lake, river, or the sea underwater photography can be one of the most exciting and rewarding things to do.

The difficulties you encounter when in shooting underwater can be summed up in one word, "limitation." Communication and travel below the surface are limited. Natural light and visibility are limited. How you tackle these limitations depends on your skill underwater and your photographic equipment.

However the most important advice you can receive has little to do with photography, and everything to do with your safety. A watery environment can be a dangerous one, even if it is a swimming pool. No photograph is worth your life. Depending on the type of underwater photography you wish to practice, you must first acquire the appropriate specialized knowledge and training, and obtain certification from a qualified instructor. This applies to every aspect of underwater activity, from basic swimming skills to advanced sub aqua diving techniques.

This list is by no means exhaustive; they are just some of the various types of photography you can discover. There are so many other forms of photography from infrared to medical, street, landscape, portrait, macro and Panoramic photography. Photographic work can be divided into dozens of categories, many with lots of sub-categories. But for now, just go and have fun with your camera and discover the joy of photographing you chosen subject!

The Wright Decision

July 19th 2005, the morning after his dream transfer to the English Premier League champions, Shaun Wright-Phillips must have woken up feeling like the happiest man alive. He had just been unveiled as the answer to Chelsea’s right-sided «problem», and the stage was set for Shaun to stake his claim as the best right winger in England even pushing for David Beckham’s starting role.

Fast forward ten months and Shaun must now be echoing his adopted father’s sentiments that he should have signed for Liverpool. Admittedly Ian Wright’s comment was tongue in cheek, but few would argue that Anfield would have been the more logical destination last summer. Not only would he have been guaranteed all those games where Steven Gerrard, Dribril Cisse, Jan Kromkamp, Steve Finnan and Luis Garcia provided makeshift cover at right-midfield, but he would most certainly have been included in Sven Goran Eriksson’s swan song. As it stands he is not even on the stand by list.

For once Sven has shown the courage to select his England squad based on form alone. For the 15 or so games that Wright-Phillips was granted access to the playing field by Jose Mourinho he has failed to impress and surely Aaron Lennon is ahead of him on merit. One could even argue that were Lennon to have picked up an injury then Birmingham’s Jermaine Pennant should replace him rather than Wright-Phillips. It is one thing to gamble on a half fit Michael Owen or Wayne Rooney, but for all the hype Shaun is really in the same category as Andy Johnson and Darren Bent. All three have only had one solid EPL season and remain unproven at the highest level.

A transfer to one of the Big Four clubs should never be enough to guarantee an international place. Scott Parker quickly learnt that in order to re-ignite his career, a move away from Stanford Bridge was necessary. Only a brave man would put money on Shaun Wright-Phillips still being a Chelsea player in three months time.

Duck Tours Offer a Quacky View of South Beach

It seems like every time I sit down at one of the restaurants or cafes on Ocean Drive a big silly looking boat on wheels drives by with tourists hanging over the rails yelling at pedestrians and ‘quacking’. I always dismissed it as a silly tourist gimmick until a friend told me equally silly named «Duck Tour» was pretty interesting. One afternoon I decided to take the tour for myself, the price tag of $32 seemed a little steep at first, but I paid my fare and hoped for the best from this ‘land and water’ adventure.

The tour departs four times a day, so I decided to catch the final, 5pm tour. As I waited in line I chatted with some of the other riders, they came from all over the world to visit Miami and were excited about the infamous Duck Tour. Once we were on board we received a set of rules, a few lines to yell including ‘quack, quack, quack’ and were instructed to ‘jump over the side’ in the event the boat was to sink. Needless to say, I still had my doubts at this point.

As we turned the corner from Lincoln Ave onto Washington Ave. the guide pointed out several local attractions including Espanola Way, Club Mansion, and B.E.D. He spoke about the history of the area and explained why the buildings were referred to as ‘Art Deco’ — due to the mixed style of architecture including cubism, nauticalism, and futurism. My interest was peaking.

As we crossed the McArthur Causeway over the bay, he pointed out celebrity homes on Star Island and Palm Island and entertained us with trivia questions and corny jokes. We were encouraged to yell out and interact with the guide and our fellow riders. I admit I was starting to have fun.

As we pulled up to the dock our ‘vehicle’ instantly became a boat as we «splashed down» into the bay. This is when the real lesson began. The tour guide was very educated on the history of the bay and the beach. Despite living in Miami for several years he shared facts with us that even I was unaware of. I did not know that the massive Biscayne Bay, which averages 8-12 feet deep in most areas, was once a three-inch deep swamp that spanned from Downtown Miami to what is now Washington Ave. The City of Miami Beach and South Beach, was once called ‘Ocean Beach’ and the area only included Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue and Washington Ave. All of the streets after Washington Ave, including Alton Rd. and Bay Rd where several South Beach luxury condo buildings now sit, were made by sand dredging the swamp to make more land.

As he quoted the history of all of the islands and bridges of Biscayne Bay he also pointed out celebrity homes of famous gangster Al Capone, Leicester Hemingway (brother of Ernest Hemingway), Latin singer Paulina Rubio, and Rosie O’Donnell. When we passed the homes everyone outside stopped to wave, the riders (the real tourists) were very excited and all seemed to be having a great time. He even helped my job a little by pointing out real estate that is currently for sale.

When the tour returned to land we cruised to Ocean Drive where I, like the people I always shake my head at, quacked at the people seated at restaurants and cafés, sang loudly, and screamed at couples walking by asking them to kiss. Some cooperated, some didn’t, but ALL laughed and waved as we passed by.

When the hurricane of 1926 wiped out everything on South Beach but coral houses, J.N. Lumus sold all of the land on the ocean from 5th St to 15th Street to the City of Miami for $40,000 under the condition that it never be developed and forever be a park. I always wondered why the ocean front real estate started at 1st street in the SoFi neighborhood, ended at 5th and picked back up on 15th. We should all be forever grateful to Mr. Lumus because without this condition South Beach would not be what it is today.

By the end of the 90-minute tour I had learned so much about the city I live in, met some cool people, and had a great time. I would absolutely take the tour again, there is never a dull moment and I highly recommend it to tourists and locals alike. To make the deal even sweeter, the Duck Tour ticket serves at a coupon to several local restaurants and attractions so I definitely got a bang for my buck.

Leicester Bed and Breakfasts

Leicestershire is not generally acknowledged to be one of Britain’s most beautiful counties, but it is important to remember that it is a beautiful area of the Midlands, and such a beautiful place is well worth a visit. From the historic ruins of Charnwood Forest to the engineering feat that is the Great Central Railway, the county has a wealth of sumptuous views and historical sites that make it a beautiful part of the United Kingdom. Furthermore, Leicester has undergone a massive makeover in recent years, with the construction of ‘The Curve,’ an astounding theatre that has all sorts of performances all year round, updating the city’s look and culture.

Essentially the area has a rising profile, and is a beautiful place to visit. However, while a city centre hotel may seem like the best place to stay, you could well find it to be a little too pricey, especially in this climate. You should also think about the fact that you would be stuck in the centre of an urban area, and while Leicester may be fantastic to visit, you might enjoy staying at a Leicester bed and breakfast, out in the countryside, allowing you to take advantage of both the city and the natural beauty of the country.

You could, for example opt for a luxury Leicester bed and breakfast in the form of the Highbury Guest House. Located north of Leicester, and near Loughborough, it lies in the perfect location between the two cities, allowing you to visit both with relative ease. Of course, it is very important to keep in mind certain things when trying to choose a Leicester bed and breakfast, because while it is easy enough to find a guest house, it is equally easy to end up in a grotty little place, with poor service and even poor parking, preventing you from having a relaxing stay.

So what sort of things should you find out before booking a stay in a guest house? Well, while it may seem simple enough to check out a website, you have to remember that any guest house, including Leicester bed and breakfasts, could easily mislead you with a fancy website. A few well-taken photos of a nicely laid table or a beautifully decorated room do not necessarily mean that you will be staying in a guest house with either. Understandably, it is not very feasible to do a reconnaissance mission of guest houses, but it is easy enough to check out websites that rate places to stay – check out past guests’ comments and ratings to get a sense of how much they enjoyed their stay.

And what else is important to check? As simple as it sounds, it is worth checking the hotel’s exact location and parking facilities. It sounds simple, but it is easy enough to say that a Leicester bed and breakfast is in Leicester, but they could just be saying that it is in the county. You’d be better off checking out where your guest house is on a map, which then also lets you plan your trip, as you will be able to see what is in the area, and choose your activities accordingly. Parking is also something to take into consideration – after all you may turn up and find there is no free parking, leaving you with an extra, unexpected cost, or the added worry of having to park your car in an unsecured area.

So Leicester is a beautiful place to visit, you should well consider staying in a guest house – not only is it cheaper than a hotel, but it is also often a more intimate location. Just make sure you plan your trip properly to avoid disappointment.

Some Feasible Options for Stansted Airport Transfer

Stansted Airport, which is located roughly 48km towards the northeast of Central London, is a hub of low-cost European carriers. In terms of passenger traffic, it is the fourth busiest airport in UK after Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester. The good thing about Stansted Airport is that it is extremely well-connected with Central London by means of several modes of transports. Let’s take a look at some popular airport transfer modes.

Car- Unlike Gatwick Airport, where parking is a costly proposition, Stansted Airport has several cheap parking lots in its vicinity. You can choose anyone of them to park your car safely. If you have to catch a crack-of-dawn flight, the most feasible option for you will be book a reasonably priced airport hotel. A majority of overnight hotels offer exciting parking packages that can help you to save a lot of money.

Taxi- Taxi is the most convenient way to get to London Stansted. There are more than 500 companies providing first-rate taxi services at Stansted Airport. For a standard taxi, you will have to spend anything between £80 and £100. It will take approximately one hour to reach Central London, depending upon the traffic condition and the time of the day. At a slightly higher price, chauffeur-driven luxury taxis are also available. They are typically equipped with facilities as air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, Sat Nav, snacks, water, magazines and newspaper. You can book these taxis either by phone or by internet. If you have not been able to book the taxi in advance, don’t worry as it is possible to arrange for one at an appropriate desk at the International Arrivals Hall of the airport. Upon booking the taxi, the company will provide you the phone number of the driver. Use the number frequently to keep the parking charges to a minimum.

Bus- Terravision, Stansted Bus and easy bus are three major bus services that operate between London Stansted and Victoria Station and Liverpool Street Station. If you have time in hand, opt for easy bus. For as low as £2, you can reach Stansted Airport from Victoria Station. Terravision shuttle bus service is slightly expensive, but the time taken to reach the airport is lesser. The journey between Victoria and Stansted is completed in 75-minutes. However, the cost of the journey is £9.

Coach- Almost all major cities of UK are connected with London Stansted by long and short distance coach services operated by National Express. These coaches are available 24-hours a day, and they can be caught at various pick-up points.

Train- Beneath the terminal building of the airport, there is a station that is served by Stansted Express. Depending upon the time of the day, it runs every 15 to 30 minutes. In addition to Stansted Express, the station is served by other trains originating from Liverpool Station and the Midlands. If you book your train ticket in advance, you can save as much as 43 percent. This makes the train the cheapest mode of transportation.
