The Smart Contact Lens Bubble

New technology is being created faster and faster these days. The rapid pace of development in the tech sector is changing the world around us in fantastic ways, connecting all aspects of our lives through tiny gadgets. In less than ten years we’ve seen the release of the first smart watch, the iPhone, the first smart TV and internet connected cars among many innovations. The internet of things, as it has become to be called, is only in its infancy, but tech companies are trying to find new and imaginative ways to integrate the World Wide Web into our lives. Our clothing, think of the self-drying coat and self-tying shoes from Back to the future 2, our kitchen appliances, refrigerators that tell you what food and when you need to buy it, and even our books, have become internet connected. The newest gizmo in the internet of things that is soon to be released is the smart contact lens.

Sony, Samsung, Google and a few lesser known companies have all filed patents in the last couple of years in a race to be the first to bring the lenses to the market for consumer purchase. Each company seems to have focused on a different issue. Each one encompasses a unique feature, such as taking photos, augmented reality or addressing health concerns, while other features are ubiquitous to all the manufacturers’ lenses.

Sony was recently awarded a patent in April of 2016 for a smart contact lens that will take photos and videos of what the wearer is seeing. The lens can do most of what a camera can do. Just like a camera it is capable of autofocus, exposure adjustment and zooming. The patent lays out the lenses ability to calibrate the camera with a wearer’s blink. Want to take a photo? Just blink three times really fast. Want to take a video? Just squint really hard for three seconds. The contact also uses an electroluminescence display screen to playback recorded content. You can do all this without ever looking at your smartphone, but just by looking straight ahead. All of the registered content can then be wirelessly transferred to your smart phone or computer for later viewing.

Samsung was also given a patent in April 2016 in South Korea for its own smart contact lens. The Samsung lens will take photos and videos just like the Sony lens, however it will also have imbedded augmented reality. With a built in display that projects images directly into the wearers’ eye, the Samsung smart contact lenses will have the ability to superimpose computer generated images onto the real world, all while being less visible when worn. If you are curious what the restaurant across the street serves simply look at the front of the building and the menu will appear across your field of vision. Look down the street to see who has the best gas prices and little speech bubbles will pop out from the curb with the amount per gallon inside. Say you’re on a blind date and want to find out more about the person sitting across from you. You can check their Facebook page without ever having to leave the table or pull out your phone. Imagine having the ability to read a foreign language without ever having taken classes, or being able to navigate a place you’ve never been to effortlessly. The applications for this are endless.

Google’s smart contact lens patent approval arrived a month later than Sony and Samsung in May 2016. Google being Google though, they are taking the smart contact lens road a little less traveled; the contact lenses will have to be surgically implanted in your head. Google has partnered with Novartis, the parent company of Alcon contact lenses, the company that used to be known as Cibavision, to develop a lens with flexible electronics and sensors thinner than a human hair that will help those suffering from diabetes. The embedded lenses will read chemicals in the tear fluid to determine if the wearers’ blood sugar levels have fallen to near fatal levels. Upon diagnosing the patient’s glucose condition the smart contact will then be able to administer the insulin itself, if needed. While it may seem a bit intrusive, this would be a great, pain-free alternative for diabetics who prick their fingers daily or who constantly wear a glucose monitor. This is excellent news for diabetics, but Google’s smart lenses could be used by anyone looking to maintain great energy levels or even stick to a healthy diet. In the long run Google is also looking to implement features that would be capable of correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism as well as presbyopia eye conditions. This would make the need for wearing glasses and traditional contact lenses a thing of the past. The patent states that the smart lenses will either be solar powered or be charged by the movements of your eyes. Now that right there is just amazing!

One last company that is on the forefront of the smart lens bubble is Ocumetrics. While lesser known than the previous three tech giants, Ocumetrics may be the first company to roll out a smart lens for sale to the public. Designed by Dr. Garth Webb to enhance the vision of those that need it, the Ocumetrics Bionic Lens as they’re calling it, will not only give the user 20/20 vision, but could actually enhance that by up to three times – yup that’s right, a zoom lens! These lenses would need to be surgically inserted in an in and out eight minute operation. The result would be immediate vision correction. In addition to overcoming the list of ocular vision ailments, the patient would never have a chance of getting cataracts as the lenses would never wear away and the software could be updated wirelessly as needed. Trials need to be carried out first, but the tech could be ready to go in just a few years.

This is an amazing time we live in.

Real Estate Sign – A Simple Yard Sign Or A Powerful Marketing Tool?

Yard signs are the most obvious, yet underutilized selling tool in the Realtor’s arsenal. If you are one of those Realtors, who is still married to the gatekeeper business model in which all information about the home should be closely held, you may be missing real opportunities to expand your business. It begins with the ordinary real estate yard sign.

The real estate signs For Sale is your chance to show neighbors, seller’s relatives, buyers and other sellers how you can really pull out the stops to market a home. By festooning the sign with sign riders, feature sheet holders, and email addresses, you make the sign come alive with enthusiasm and energy. Anyone who looks at such a busy sign will see a busy agent who is determined to sell this particular home.

Think about the curiosity factor. Would not you be tempted to stop and look at a home that invites you to «Take One, Please?» By comparison, a sign with only a broker’s name and a phone number looks exactly like what it is – an advertisement for the broker, not the home.

The purpose of your sign is to stimulate activity around the home. By making people stop, look and think about this home, you are expanding your customer base. Curious neighbors and Sunday drivers could be your next clients.

A truly professional real estate agent uses colorful residential yard signs to increase traffic, communicate important information and make a stronger curbside impression. Lightweight curbside signs are very often used to list amenities and generate interest in my rental properties.

Make a great drive-up impression with a colorful yard sign and remember that realtors signs are the first point of contact you have.

Southport: One of England's Best Kept Secrets

Luxury relaxation, high class hotel accommodations, serene landscaping and high end shopping locales are only a taste of what your vacation has in store for you when you travel to the unique town of Southport.

Southport is one of the best kept secrets in England. It's a beautiful and quaint seaside town tucked in Merseyside, England. Just north of Liverpool, this lush area is laden with trees and exquisite landscaping. It also boasts a breathtaking atmosphere full of elaborate Victorian architecture and a prime example of elegant town planning.

There are so many amazing sites in Southport, it's no surprise that it's one of England's most noteworthy and reputable tourist venues. Southport is riddled with town attractions such as the Southport Pier which is the second longest seaside pleasure pier in the British Isles, its deluxe shopping on Lord Street, not to mention the elegant tree-lined shopping street that was once the home of Napoleon III of France.

Southport has a population of just under 100, 000 and is one of the twelfth largest settlements in North West England.

Historically a part of Lancashire, the Southport was founded in 1792 when a hotel was built at what is currently the south end of Lord Street. At that time the area was sparsely populated and was dominated by sand dunes. During the turn of the 19th century Southport became popular with tourists due to the easy and convenient access from the nearby Leeds and Liverpool Canal. The town grew quickly with the rapid growth coinciding with the Industrial Revolution and the Victorian era.

Southport is located on the Irish Seacoast of North West England. The town lies conveniently to the north of the well known city of Liverpool and west of the city of Preston. Extensive sand dunes stretch for several miles to the south of town. The Ainsdales and dunes have been designated as a National Nature Reserve in England, making it a serene site for relaxation and beautiful pictures.

Southport today is still one of the most popular seaside resorts in the United Kingdom. It is well known for hosting a variety of events including an annual air show, and the largest independent flower show in the UK. The town is at the center of England's Golf Coast and has hosted The Open Championship at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club in the past.

One of the most sought after perks of a trip to Southport is walk through the popular Hesketh Park. This gorgeous amenity is a public park situated near the north end of Lord Street in the Victorian seaside town. Rich in history itself, the land Hesketh Park occupies was once sand dunes and beach. As the tides receded and the town of Southport grew, the need for a park was proposed. At the time, the land was owned by Rev Charles Hesketh.

He generously donated the land for use as a public park. Hesketh Park was originally designed as a public park in the mid-19th century by Edward Kemp, and was further developed in the 20th century. The land has many Victorian features and landscape designs and is a breathtaking addition to the sand dunes and otherwise seaside atmosphere in Southport.

Southport is rich with culture, history and beauty. It is the prime vacation spot for your England excursion.

A Simple Introduction To Fantasy Football

As the name indicates, fantasy football is a game where participants build up an imaginary team of real football players. Points are scored or deducted according to the performance of the players on the field. Points are usually awarded when any of the following things happen: a player plays in a match, scores a goal, assists in a goal through a pass or touch which led to the goal, saves a penalty, a goalkeeper saves 3 shots or more.

Points are also deducted from a team's score if any of the following happens: a player receives a yellow or red card, misses a penalty kick, scores own goal, a goalkeeper concedes a goal, etc.

The number of points awarded for scoring a goal may be higher than the points awarded for assisting in a goal. Likewise, the number of points deducted for a bigger offense would be higher than the points deducted for a minor offense and so on. How many points are to be awarded or deducted are decided in advance before the game begins.

Most of the fantasy football leagues will ask participants to select a team of eleven players within a specified budget range. You are not allowed to exceed the budget range. Typically you need to select a balanced team consisting of 1 goalkeeper, 4 defenders, 3 to 4 midfielders and a couple of forwards. Some of the fantasy football leagues also have other restrictions like you can only selected a limited number of players per club.

Many people love playing fantasy football. This is because a regular football fan who watches different teams play in premier league would love the idea of owning one of the teams. Fantasy football gives people the opportunity to own a team of handpicked real life footballers. Is it any wonder then that some people are absolutely hooked on to this game? If you want to get started then head over to a popular fantasy football website and join a league. You can find dozens of them by doing a simple search online. Registration is usually free at most of these sites.

Once you join the league, the next step is to pick a name for your team. The name should be catchy and attractive. It also has to be unique. You cannot select a name which has already been selected by someone else for their team. You should also familiarize yourself with the league's scoring system. Each website may have its own set of rules and points system which may differ from others.

Rooney – A Serious Issue for United

Things have been far from rosy for Wayne Rooney for some time. An injury curtailed his excellent season last time and led to a lack of form in the run in to the season finale, an extremely disappointing World Cup, both personally and as a team followed. This season Rooney has only scored one goal, not one from open play, has looked desperately short of form, and at times, enthusiasm with constant press intrusion into his private life to boot. Rumours circulating out of Old Trafford today are that Wayne Rooney’s representative’s have ended contract negotiations with the Man United hierarchy. With players able to discuss terms with other club sin the last 6 months of their contracts, clubs get increasingly twitchy at this sort of thing, especially when Rooney is valued at circa £50million on the open market.

This situation is confused by recent evidence that Rooney has fallen out with his manager and mentor Sir Alex Ferguson. Direct rebuttal to his managers claims that his poor form is to blame on a recurring ankle injury Rooney seems determined to suggest otherwise. This is a risky strategy for sure given that Sir Alex takes no prisoners when it comes to spats with players as Paul Ince, Roy Keane, David Beckham and Japp Stam know only too well. All four high profile Old Trafford stars stepped out of line, became «too big for their boots» and challenged the authority of Sir Alex, to their cost.

Rooney would clearly have no shortage of suitors, Manchester City would love to steal another Red Devil and see Rooney line up with Tevez while Chelsea may spend big if it meant stealing their main rivals main asset. From abroad Barcelona and Real Madrid are more than certain to register interest in one of the game’s top talents. Is this the one occasion where Sir Alex can’t afford to let his man go though? Paul Ince was easily replaced with a young Paul Scholes waiting in the wings, Keane not so easily replaced but was an ageing force so Ferguson just brought forward the inevitable. Beckham took his world superstar status to Madrid but in came a young and hungry Christiano Ronaldo. Even Stam was replaced with ease with eventually Rio Ferdinand. In those four cases United were in a position of buying strength as a wealthy club, now a days the clubs debt looms high and a Rooney sale may be spent on interest payments and not players, you could even point out that Christiano Ronaldo’s £80 million sale has not been reinvested in the first team squad as evidence.

Sir Alex now faces possibly his most challenging situation in all of his years of Manchester United management, whether to stick to his guns and move a troublesome player on at risk of leaving his squad bear of World Class talent or to look to reconcile with Rooney and risk pandering to player power, whatever he does the clock is ticking as Rooney’s contract gets closer to it’s expiry date.
