Premier League Match Time: Chelsea Vs Aston Villa

It’s Premier League match time at Stamford Bridge on January 2, 2011, when champions Chelsea host Aston Villa in a return encounter.

The first meeting between the sides, hosted at Villa Park, took place on October 16. Villa managed to steal three points from the game as Ancelotti’s charges were without Drogba, and his replacement on the day, Anelka, failed to close the match out.

Villa had their moments in the first half, beginning with a missed scoring opportunity by Ireland on 3 minutes. Carew who led Villa’s attack had his own scoring chance, shortly thereafter, but Cech was up to the task of foiling the attempt. But after the interval, Chelsea took a stranglehold and did everything but score.

Chelsea ran circles around the Villa defence and Zhirkov got past Collins and Beye time and again. The eventual result reflected the changed style of Villa’s new manager Gerard Houllier, and «caution first» appeared to be the by-word, a far cry from the squad’s cavalier approach under O’Neill.

A victory would have put Chelsea seven points adrift of the field at the top of the table. As it transpired, Chelsea were lucky not to lose the game in stoppage time, when Reo-Coker failed to score in a one-on-one with Cech, after he capitalised on a rare error from McEachran in Blues’ back-line.

Head to head in their last five league meetings with Villa, Chelsea have established a 3-1 advantage. The last game between the sides at Stamford Bridge in March ended in Chelsea’s biggest league win with the scoreboard reading 7-1 in the champions’ favour.

The Blues have enjoyed a formidable home record this season with just the solitary loss in eight games hosted, with six wins and a draw in the remaining matches. In contrast, Albion have managed to win just two games on the road, while losing five and drawing the remaining two, of nine away games.

After leading the table for 15 weeks, Chelsea have slipped to fourth position. The home game against Houllier’s squad gives a full-strength Chelsea a great opportunity to bank full points, in their first match of the New year.

NFL Personal Injury

Concussions, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s are just a few of the things that may be linked to repeated concussions – the type of concussions that professional NFL players often sustain. Research into the impact of multiple concussions has been in the works for many years now, but it was only recently that a slew of NFL players have brought a personal injury case against the NFL for these injuries.

A recent case has just reached a new settlement that will be a major turning point.

Recent Settlement

A few months ago, both sides put forth a $76 million settlement agreement that was tentative at the time. The judge presiding over the case rejected this amount on the basis that a capped amount would not provide enough of a personal injury settlement for some injured players. Recently, both sides agreed to an uncapped amount.

The Breakdown

Here are the amounts that both sides have agreed upon – in addition to necessary treatments and other costs that pertain to each case.

  • Players with a doctor’s diagnosis of ALS will receive $5 million
  • Players with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s will receive up to $3.5 million
  • Up to $4 million will be given to families of players that died due to Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)
  • Counseling, treatment, and other necessary procedures may also be covered in all cases

This settlement applies to all former NFL players that are currently retired.

A Closer Look

Each player that hopes to gain monetary compensation for head injuries must first gain a proper diagnosis from a medical professional, and families that hope to receive funds from the NFL following a retired player’s death must have proof (through autopsy) that death occurred because of CTE. Often, these illnesses are difficult to diagnose, and gaining a post-mortem autopsy can be both traumatic and hard to determine.

However, now that the NFL has acknowledged that brain injuries can happen as a result of repeated head trauma, additional precautions might be taken in the future to protect current NFL players. The new settlement mentioned above is also a large win for former players battling brain injuries and for families of deceased players.

Your Personal Injury Case

This case is important for several reasons: First, it really called attention to the damages that individuals can sustain from a concussion, not to mention multiple concussions. Second, it called attention to the need to compensate individuals for the damages they sustain as a direct result of concussions.

The human brain is the most intricate super-computer known to man. Interestingly, there are people who will spend their lives studying the brain and it’s functions and will never fully understand its true capabilities. The human brain was not made to take continuous and systematic impacts that can happen in professional sports.

What Are Mortgage Brokers And Why To Use One

«Mortgage» is formed from two words: the French word «mort» meaning «dead» and the word «gage» from Old English meaning «pledge». Sir Edward Coke (who lived from 1552 to 1634) explained the term: the land as considered «dead» to the mortgagor, as if the person never had it.

Today, the term mortgage is used for a loan for purchasing propriety. The most common

mortgages are the home mortgages. It is not common to pay cash a home today. The

«life’ of a home mortgage is from 20 to 30 years. During all this years, the owner will pay

regularly and with the specified amount. There is also a term for the interest rate,

established to respect the seller and also the buyer conditions.

Most people think at a bank when thinking at a mortgage. It is the most trustful way to

get a mortgage; even the banks are asking the most rigorous set of documents to approve

it. The stability has its price: banks don’t give the best interest rate, but there is also the

possibility to negotiate for the best acceptable solution.

Pertinent information empowers the burrower with the knowledge to make appropriate

decisions for his family and themselves.

The banks are making their money from activities like mortgage, so there will be always

good solutions for everyone. People can «shop around» to find the best mortgage

condition.

What are the mortgage brokers? They are making all the legwork for the customer.

Specialized websites are offering «perfect loan programs» in a few minutes. A

professional research must be made to find the appropriate opportunity to buy the house

of our dreams.

Financial brokerage is a licensed company or individual who obtains a loan for borrowers

by selecting the best available solution at the best available rate. Real estate brokers help

borrowers to get a loan in accordance with their needs, making in the same time a

profitable investment for the financial brokerage or lender. All the work can be done

online, leading to a fast win-win situation for all.

The load mortgage broker has a professional expertise with direct access to many loan

products, providing customers efficient and cost-effective options that are meeting their

specific needs. He will provide customers with choice, convenience and expertise.

A good broker is the customer’s mentor, guiding him to the entire loaning process,

balancing the client’s financial goals, offering extensive choices.

A professional mortgage broker is using loan packages with less than perfect credit histories,

permitting to his customers to enjoy the benefits of home-ownership.

A mortgage broker isn’t a banker, neither another financial lender. He is (or must be) a

real estate professional offering products and services. A broker can act as a banker too,

when funding loans.

Maybe the best part of a home mortgage broker activity is the help he is giving in

assessing the requirements and saving the customers time. Having contact with many

banks they can offer advices on the ways to overcome the frontiers to loan qualification.

A mortgage broker also knows the laws and regulations, simplifying the borrowers’ task.

He is taking the application and obtains the credit report and appraisal. He counsels the

customer on the approval process; obtain the credit report and appraisal, collecting the

necessary documents. He also provides separate services and facilities to wholesale

lenders; market the lender’s product also. Mortgage broker also is assembling and

delivering the completed loan package.

The mortgage broker really cares about the quality of the loan; the safety and soundness

of the mortgage lending community is linked to the success and efficiency of its home

loan originations. Consumers who exercise their choice choose mortgage brokers because

they are dedicated to their customers, who are the consumers, and in the same time the

wholesale lenders.

May the broker steer consumers to the lender who pays the highest fees to the broker?

Isolated instances of steer can occur, but the free-market economy is protecting the

customer giving him a powerful weapon: the vigorous open competition. Each consumer

can shop and compare the prices; his final option will lead him to the best solution. The

level of choices has no precedent.

Unstoppable – Stockton and Malone Seek the 2003 NBA Championship

Karl Malone set the screen, John Stockton hit the game-winning three-point shot at the buzzer, and they were finally on their way. The Utah Jazz had just defeated the Houston Rockets in Game 6 of the 1997 Western Conference Finals, advancing to the NBA Finals for the first time ever. Coach Jerry Sloan, referring to then 35-year-old Stockton playing in his 13th season and then 33-year-old Malone playing in his 12th season, commented on how they had done it. «These guys have been criticized the last few years for not getting to where we’re going, but I’ve always said that the most important thing in sports is to keep trying. Let this be an example of what it means to say it’s never over.»

«It’s never over» when you «keep trying,» or in other words when you -never quit. In their quest for the NBA championship, be assured in 2003 that this year’s playoffs are no different from any other -John Stockton and Karl Malone will never quit.

For any NBA player, the ultimate goal is to win the NBA championship because winning the championship means winning the title of ‘champion.’ ‘Champion’ is the most sought-after title for anyone because the word itself means ‘unstoppable.’ Of the 29 league-teams that compete for the championship annually there can only be one team that will win it, only one team that will not be stopped. The 12 players on the team that does win it in that particular year are the only ones who were not stopped. Championship-winning players can claim they are unstoppable for the rest of their lives because they are champions for the rest of their lives. Nothing can ever take that title away from them.

Champion-boxer Muhammad Ali said it best when describing the importance of becoming a champion. «I hated every minute of the training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.'»

John Stockton and Karl Malone too are champions for one simple reason: both are unstoppable.

Before the 1997 NBA Finals, Stockton and Malone had been criticized for not reaching it as Sloan commented. Now, six years later since they lost their first NBA Finals appearance against Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in 1997, and five years later since their second appearance in 1998, they have received criticism for not winning it. Without the championship it seems they are stoppable because they have not won the title of ‘champion.’ However, what their critics fail to realize is Stockton and Malone have not been stopped.

Stockton and Malone have remarkably led the Jazz to the playoffs every season of their careers. Stockton has made 18 consecutive appearances, starting in his rookie season of 1984-85; the Mailman has made 17 straight appearances, beginning with his first season of 1985-86. They hold the record for most playoff appearances without winning a championship. They also hold the record for playing in the most playoff games without winning a championship; Stockton has played in 177 games and Malone has played in 167 games. No other player in NBA history has been to the playoffs as many years or played in as many postseason games without winning the championship as Stockton or the Mailman.

No other player in NBA history has gotten back up as many times either.

«The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after the fall,» Super Bowl-champion coach Vince Lombardi once said.

That is the «greatest accomplishment» of them all because it is the most difficult of them all. It is easy to get back up when you are winning because you are already up. To get back up when you are down -that is the hard part. To get back up again and again when you are down again and again -that is the hardest part.

Winning is difficult; it only comes to those who perform the «greatest accomplishment.» All of Stockton and Malone’s individual and team successes have resulted from never quitting.

Winning individually, as Jazz fans know, Stockton and Malone have become arguably the greatest players ever to play their positions. Briefly stated, Stockton is arguably the greatest point-guard ever because he is the all-time assist and steals leader. No one else has ever done that. The Mailman is arguably the greatest power-forward ever because he is currently the all-time second-leading scorer. No other forward has ever done that.

Winning as a team, Stockton and Malone have led Utah to become one of the most winning franchises ever. During the Stockton-to-Malone era the Jazz have had 11 seasons of 50 or more wins and three seasons of 60 or more wins. On March 26th of this year when Utah beat the Portland Trailblazers 94-85 (Stockton’s 41st birthday) the Jazz ensured themselves of extending their NBA record of consecutive winning seasons from 17, to 18 with their 42nd win on the year. No other team has ever done that.

All of Stockton and Malone’s future individual and team successes will also result from never quitting. Stockton and Malone can never be stopped because they never quit, and that is why they will win the championship.

Six years later, now 41-year-old Stockton playing in his 19th season and now 39-year-old (40 in July) Malone playing in his 18th season, will again return to this year’s playoffs expecting nothing less than to win the 2003 NBA championship. Of course, eventually the legends themselves will even have to retire from basketball one day (probably when they are 50 years old or so) and when that day does come, they will either have won or not won the championship. Either way, «it’s never over» because nothing can stop John Stockton and Karl Malone from never quitting.
