Manchester United Sign Fred

Manchester United unviels Fred

Manchester United sign Fred for 52.5 million pounds on a five year deal from Shakhtar Donetsk with a one-year contract extension. The blue half of Manchester and the current English Premier League champions, Manchester City were also in the race to sign the twenty-five-year-old from Shakhtar but were beaten by United for his signature. The club has a history and an attractive trophy cabinet which way bigger than City and is the reason why Fred chose to join Manchester United.

The Brazilian said that he has chosen Manchester United over their bitter rivals Manchester City to win trophies. Fred was unveiled at Manchester United on Thursday by their mascot, who is also Fred playing the piano. The Brazilian is known for his creativity and brilliant vision in the midfield. Mourinho has been looking to sign a player with a similar profile. Fred will still have to fight for a starting place ahead of Ander Herrara and Juan Mata alongside Pogba and Lingard.

Manchester United was clearly looking to splash big after they fell short of the League leaders with a huge margin. however, last season was Manchester United’s best one since the retirement of their iconic manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The club has seen a difficult period since Sir Alex retired after a stay of 25 years following which United have appointed their third manager in Jose Mourinho. With David Moyes struggling with his players and was sacked within 10 months of his appointment. His successor Luis Van Gaal lasted for 2 seasons but was criticised for his boring gameplay and 3-4-2-1 formation. Even though Van Gaal had experienced success in Europe with Bayern Munich and Ajax with his tactical philosophy but failed to live up to the expectations at Manchester United. He was sacked with a lot of bitterness at the end with the club’s board. Following the two failures, Jose Mourinho was appointed.

Manchester United’s signings under Jose Mourinho

The Portuguese man has splashed around $300 million in the transfer market and made some iconic signings since his sacking from Chelsea.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic for free from PSG.

Paul Pogba from Juventus for $100 million which was the most expensive transfer until last year when Neymar switched to PSG.

Nemanja Matic from League rivals Chelsea. He has cemented his place as a defensive midfielder and improved the team significantly.

Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in the winter transfer window. The deal was a swap for Henrikh Mkhitaryan who was struggling for form since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

Victor Lindelof from Benfica. The Swedish player has failed to show consistency like most of other Mourinho’s signings but has been excellent at times.

Diego Dalot is the new right back signed this year before Fred. The twenty-year-old is assumed to be the best right back in his age group.

Old Trafford – The Magnificent Home Of Manchester United

Old Trafford, The Theater of Dreams, and the home of the most popular and successful football teams in the world – Manchester United. The Red Devils, managed by Sir Alex Ferguson have lived at Old Trafford since it was built in 1910, with the exception of an eight-year absence from 1941 to 1949, following the bombing of the stadium in the Second World War.

Old Trafford is an all-seater stadium with room for 75,957 spectators. There are also numerous VIP and season hospitality boxes, executive boxes, restaurants and hospitality areas. Surrounding the Old Trafford pitch are four covered all-seater stands known as the North, East, South and West Stands.

The dugout is in the center of the South Stand. It is raised above pitch level to give the manager and his coaches a better view of the game. The visitors' dugout is the other side of the old tunnel, The Munich Tunnel, which is the only remaining part of the original stadium.

The current players' tunnel is in the South West corner. It is also used to bring in the police and emergency services. The tunnel leads directly to the players 'dressing rooms, the players' lounge and the television interview area.

There is also a Football Museum highlighting "The Greatest Football Story Ever Told". Beginning more than one hundred years ago, it tells the story of Manchester United's total English and European football dominance. You even get to tour the stadium and see the team through the eyes of some of the greats such as Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson.

Such is the devotion of the Manchester United fans that there is a soccer mega store totally devoted to the team's paraphernalia. At 17,000 square feet, it has 800 different items and 39 tills. Over 20,000 people visit it on a match day!

Should you have a junior Rooney or Beckham then Old Trafford also holds soccer schools for the chosen few as well as training for its second and junior teams.

Everything about Old Trafford and Manchester United is world class and this includes their hospitality. Fine food and drinks and attention to detail are evident everywhere, including the world famous Red Café. Hospitality can be booked by the season – and many large companies have their own Executive Boxes at Old Trafford, or by the match. For a truly awe inspiring time it is difficult to beat visiting The Old Trafford

Manchester United Winning the Battle But Losing the War?

It is almost starting to become funny; all the fuss over one player borders on the ridiculous. Cristiano Ronaldo has made headlines for weeks just because someone decided he should make the move to Real Madrid. Whether the entire thing was initiated by Ronaldo himself, Real Madrid, an outspoken fan or someone else, it is turning into a joke. Manchester United thought they had turned the tables on Real Madrid, but from the looks of current events, the joke is on United.

On Monday, an official complaint was logged by Manchester United with FIFA, claiming that Real Madrid is publicly courting the winger without the consent of the club that currently owns his contract. Real Madrid is countering that United doesn’t have a case against them. The fact of the matter is that FIFA does have a rule about negotiating with a player who is under contract, and if Real Madrid has done that, then they are indeed in violation of the rules. However, there seems to be no evidence of that. True, Real Madrid has said they want Ronaldo. But, in reality, have they done anything beyond that? Ramon Calderon of Real Madrid says they haven’t, and it is rather questionable if Manchester United will be able to prove otherwise.

To add to the frustration at Old Trafford, Karim Benzema has decided to stay in France rather than make the move to Manchester United. Beyond that, the twenty-year-old Ligue 1 Player of the Year has said when he has learned all he can in France, he’d like to make the move to Real Madrid. The desired move of the young striker has to be making the head honchos at Manchester United see red. But to add insult to injury, while Benzema had been considering a move to United, he doesn’t feel he is ready to play for a team of Real Madrid’s calibre.

Then there is seventeen-year-old sensation Aaron Ramsey. Everyone was certain Ramsey was going to Old Trafford when they entered into talks with Cardiff’s young star. But though they courted him fervently, even offering to loan him back to Cardiff for a year, it appears they have somehow drawn the short straw yet again. Rather than leaving behind the Cardiff Bluebirds to become a Manchester United Red Devil, Ramsey has chosen to head to Arsenal instead. People are speculating that the ability of Arsenal’s manager to develop young talent was at the core of Ramsey’s decision, but what if there is more to it than that?

Looking at Manchester United’s recent actions from the perspective of a player shows another possibility. Basically, their response to the Ronaldo situation says that if you play for United, especially if you play well, they own you. Who in their right mind would want to join a club like that? Perhaps it has nothing to do with the decisions of Benzema and Ramsey, but the thought may very well have crossed their minds before deciding against moves to Manchester United. So while Old Trafford may manage to keep Cristiano Ronaldo, one has to wonder what it will cost them in terms of their reputation and future.

Choosing a Man Utd Retro Shirt – A Look at 3 Vintage Manchester United Football Shirts From the Past

Vintage Manchester United football shirts come in many different designs, colors and styles, which in a way reinforces what a rich and colorful history this great club has had over the years. There is a Man Utd retro shirt for most of the club's greatest moments, especially from the sixties and seventies.

As you might expect, most of the Red Devils' best moments are celebrated with a red Man Utd retro shirt, however, there are a number of non-red vintage Manchester United football shirts that you can purchase from specialist websites online, including a rather famous blue one.

Below we take a look at three vintage Manchester United football shirts from the past, so if you are looking for a cool Man Utd retro shirt to cheer your team on next season you should definitely read on.

Manchester United 1968 European Cup Final shirts

These vintage Man Utd football shirts are probably the most iconic in the club's history, so it is somewhat ironic that they are in a color that you would not normally associate with the club.

Winning the 1968 European Cup Final was Manchester United's greatest hour, when a team consisting of legends such as Sir Bobby Charlton, Nobby Stiles, Brian Kidd and George Best, beat Benfica 4-1 after extra time.

This Man Utd retro shirt is based around a royal blue jersey. Which has the European Cup Final logo on the shirt, with the words "Wembley 1968" written beneath it.

Manchester Utd 1970's George Best shirts

George Best was without doubt one of the most skilful players ever in the game of Football. He was also soccer's first pin-up boy, long before David Beckham was even born.

These classic Manchester United football shirts celebrate the club's mercurial talent, with the words "BEST" and the number 7 on the back of a classic Man Utd retro shirt.

Manchester Utd 1978 shirts

This 1978 Man Utd retro shirt marks a time in the club's history that is perhaps more famous for their cup success than their league finishes. The 1978 Centenary shirt was a style worn by the United players throughout the late 1970's, when Utd reached no less than three FA Cup Finals, in 1976, 1977 and 1979, winning one of them against Liverpool.

These vintage Manchester Utd football shirts are based around a classic red jersey with a three white stripe trim on the collar and the sleeves and a special centenary shield.

Chelsea Set to Dominate European Football

There is a new heavyweight force in European football, they are being bankrolled seemingly by the Russian economy, they mean business, and their name is Chelsea F.C. Chelsea Football Club have always been a decent club in the second strata of English clubs. In London alone Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have invariably been ahead of the Chelsea Blues, even West Ham have often put Chelsea in the shade. But no longer, for in the season 2004-2005, Chelsea won the English Premier League title for the first time in fifty years, their only previous winning season.

But they haven’t stopped there, in the new season 2005-2006 they are already well clear in the title race leaving all their rivals gasping, and now they have set their sights on the pinnacle of all the club trophys, the European Champions League. Chelsea have never won the Champions League, indeed no London club ever has. And it is clear that their charismatic manager Jose Mourinho is intent on winning the Champions League again, he did so with his previous club Porto, of Portugal.

So what of the traditional English giants? Manchester United, often described as the world’s richest football club, have fallen into the hands of the Glazer family of Tampa Bay fame, but they reportedly needed to borrow half a billion pounds to buy United, a debt the club now shoulders. Spending on new players has so far been thin on the ground and United’s brusque Glaswegian manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has admitted that United, for so long England’s most successful club, cannot compete with Chelsea when it comes to buying players. The hordes of United fans are not amused, the natives are growing restless.

Arsenal, London’s biggest and most successful club, lost their skipper and driving force Patrick Vieira last summer, he moved to Juventus in Italy for £12 million pounds and with their star striker Thierry Henry suffering fitness problems, they picked up some uncharacteristic defeats at unfashionable clubs like West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough. This is their last season at their famous old Highbury Stadium before they move to their new purpose built Emirates stadium almost next door. The increased capacity of 60,000 will undoubtedly give their French manager Arsene Wenger more money to spend next year, but of course they have to pay for that new ground too. Far from challenging Chelsea again, it would seem that Arsenal are more likely to fall further behind.

That leaves Liverpool and Newcastle. News comes through just today that the American Kraft Company and family are interested in investing in Liverpool F.C., perhaps even buying the club outright just like Manchester United fifty miles up the road, but that is some way down the line. And they too are seeking to build a brand new stadium on Stanley Park and of course that all costs big money. Despite last year’s freakish win in the Champion’s League, Liverpool’s league form this season has again been patchy, and that included a 4-1 walloping by Chelsea on their own Anfield pitch. The idea that Liverpool might challenge Chelsea for the title remains a far-fetched one. Newcastle, England’s second best supported club are gradually improving, and they have signed England’s centre forward Michael Owen, but they still remain unconvincing at the top level. They haven’t won the title since Noah was seen building his ark, or so it seems, and they aren’t going to do so this season either.

So though it is very popular for foreign investors to snap up the leading English (and Scottish) football clubs, it appears that only Roman Abramovich at Chelsea has the financial muscle to buy the best players around. He is the only one to put unlimited funds on the table. Top class players now command a transfer fee of £40 million each and whereas Manchester United might afford one of them a season, Chelsea’s purse seems bottomless. They have already spent £220+ million and are still in the market to buy again when the transfer window re-opens in January.

They have already achieved success by winning at home, now the European Champion’s League is the Holy Grail for them, a trophy they are now the outright favourites to win with the odds layers. And astonishingly they have achieved their success to date with an array of strikers who haven’t really cut the mustard. Mutu the Romanian, was promptly sacked for drug taking, Crespo the Argentinian, was sent out to Milan on loan last season, and though he is back now he is hardly setting the world afire,or even playing that often, Gudjohnson an Icelander, plays more often than not, the muscular Drogba from the Ivory Coast, seems to have finally claimed the number nine shirt as his own, yet many blues followers still remain unconvinced about him, so it would seem likely that Chelsea may yet be looking for another proven goal scorer come January, especially after a recent rare defeat at Manchester United.

It would take a brave man to back against Chelsea in any competition at the moment. But if you’d like to, you can still have a free $30 dollar bet at Betfair.com by entering the code 6CHE3VPWJ when prompted. But one thing is for sure; no one would be surprised if this time next year the Premier League trophy AND the Champions League trophy were both on display in the Chelsea boardroom. It seems that only the Italian giants Milan and Juventus, and the Spanish top two, Real Madrid, and most especially Barcelona with their Brazilian superstar, surely soon to be the world player of the year, Ronaldinho, might stop the London blues. It really does seem as if we have entered a new era in European and world football, or if you prefer the ridiculous name that no one ever uses, Soccer. Chelsea fans have never had it so good while everyone else is left gasping in their wake, for it is a fact that Chelsea Football Club have raised the bar for everyone else to follow. Time will tell if anyone can.
