  1. Liverpool and Inter both had 3 shots on goal over the two legs, Possession was 48-52 first game and 41-59 the 2nd. and finished 2-1 AGG with both teams winning a Match. That is in no way a domination, Liverpool are just the better team.

  2. Inter's biggest enemy throughout the whole round was that they could not capitalize their offense enough despite playing well overall. That cost them the game. Simple as that..

  3. i was very turned off by liverpool's display against inter. my reds keep trying to play this high-possession system, but they don't do it like manchester city or chelsea; their passes move so slowly that opposition players are easily able to run into position to defend against almost any attack. the only time liverpool hit the ball crisply and sharply was on corner kicks and shots. otherwise, they just gently rolled the ball to each other rather than use passes to slice through the opposition. and it's like that game after game, even when liverpool win. no wonder inter stole the ball so many times. if it had been manchester city or chelsea, inter would have been blown away, hitting the post three times notwithstanding. you could tell the difference between inter and liverpool just by how quickly their passes skidded across the grass.
and what is liverpool's problem with playing with a manpower advantage? the reds have scored exactly one goal after an opposition player gets a red card, and even that was a penalty kick.

  4. Inter had two good shots towards goal in 180 minutes of play, one against the crossbar and one that went in. That is it. In contrast, Liverpool had 6 or 7 similar chances over the two matches. Inter's defense played well enough to make it seem close — credit to them, but it was never really close. Liverpool won this in third gear.

  5. As a liverpool fan, I was disappointed with our midfield and impressed with Inter's overall performance coming to Anfield. Salah needed to bury his chances tho and Matip's header could have put it to bed too

  6. Just relieved we are qualified to the quarter finals. Inter and Napoli are the 2 Italian teams we have played so far that I was nervous watching the game. AC Milan in my opinion was the easiest. As for Atalanta, I do not remember how it was

  7. Bizarre game in almost all aspects – inconsistent play and inconsistent refereeing.

Liverpool are struggling for motivation, since they won the CL and PL. JK is phenomenal at analysis, both tactical and man management, and this enables him to maximize existing pressure, but not so much for creating motivation itself. It was obvious from the off that they weren't attacking as usual but were set up to not lose – something that they very rarely do and it showed.

Inter were low on intensity and not full of belief (which was a repeated question in Inzaghi's stampa conferenza), going not only against a very strong Liverpool team but at Anfield as well. But their habits, talent and qualities enabled them to play a decent form of their game. After the Lautaro goal, you could briefly see what the motivated version of their game looks like in terms of intensity, until of course the red card.

And the Lahoz was all over the place in terms of calls/no calls. Usually he's a very good ref, but this was one of his worst games I've seen. He did a good job at diffusing dissent (a strength of his), but he had no-calls on blocking fouls one minute, then calls on other blocks. He ignored niggly little fouls at some points, but at others seemingly at random, he bit on extremely obvious non-calls. His overall performance, I think, was probably related to the strange atmosphere again from the teams themselves. Just overall a bizarre game, and here you have it, a bizarre comment.

  8. It's funny how people just talk about Liverpool not a good team and that Sanchez would have changed the game, nonsense. The history Liv vs Inter is there. Inter only won 2 times (including today) in 6 encounter. If a team comes to your home, not playing good enough but still beat you 2 -0 then what do you say for yourself? Inter lost two at home. Liv lost one at home. watch the games and stop reading headlines only. How many shots did Inter had?

  9. We have been playing poorly of lately….. allowing the carabao cup go to extra time showed we were dropping form. Salah and mane play with such lackadaisical attitude.. we have to respect man city really, they play good all through the season without dropping form

  10. This is what happens when you take things for granted and take your foot off the pedal…….also Liverpool looked tired and slow giving the ball away time after time……maybe rotate a little more to save the regulars for the big ones…..

  11. As expected Inter defended really well in both games. Proving how Italian teams are better tactically, but they lacked the quality to get past Liverpool. Liverpool on the other hand hasn't performed that well for a while now and need to find their form soon. Yes, the results are great at the moment, but they haven't been playing at their best level.

  12. Inter was a joke. Liverpool has had to put more effort into a mid level Premier team. Worried maybe 2 minutes over 2 matches. This was Liverpool in game management mode, concerned only with the clock w/ it's eye on 3 competitions.

  13. Inter were unlucky with the Alexis Sanchez red card and didn't do themselves justice in the first leg.

Even a man down, where was Dzeko and why sub off Lautaro Martinez?

Sometimes I think these games are fixed….

  14. You are 100% wrong Mr Nicol. Sanchez is never in control. The ball is running away and Sanchez is stretching just to get a toe to the ball. I would have some sympathy and understanding if Sanchez made firm contact with ball and follow through.

  15. Lautaro and Škriniar were both amazing yesterday. Best on the pitch IMO. Shame that Alexis has done those 2 bad tackles because after his 2nd yellow the game was pretty much over. Overall, congrats to Liverpool, but credit to Inter as well. 🙂

  16. Nicol………………………………………………………………….. I dont want to be harsh on you, but ive never heard you say anything that wasnt liverpool biased. But hey! But hey! But hey!
