Flag Pictures – How to Take Outstanding Photos of Flags With Digital Cameras

Every country has its own flag as a symbol of the nation and the common interest of the population. So our flag is something we share and respect. We need good pictures of flags in many circumstances. For printing, for celebrations, for …

Learn to take better pictures of flags by following these simple photo tips.

1. Show the flag in the environment

A flag isn’t just a sort of clip-art. The flag is living because of its surroundings. If we want to take impressive flag pictures we need to catch the flag in the environment. It can just be the blowing wind, or the blue sky with a few clouds behind. Or the flag shown as a central point for a gathering of people or enjoyment.

2. Let the wind blow

A flag hanging lazy down from a flagpole isn’t a real flag. The flag becomes alive when the wind is blowing. Take a lot of pictures of the flag in the wind with your digital camera. Each extra picture doesn’t cost you a cent, and we need to be quite patient to catch the right moment when the flag is at its most beautiful position, also related to the light.

3. Get the light behind the flag

If you can take the flag pictures with the light behind the flag so the light is shining through the cloth of the flag, the flag will look much more interesting in a kind of transparent mood.

4. Avoid distracting elements reaching into the frame of the flag

The flag in itself should stand out clearly from the background and from other elements in the picture. At least that will give the most impressive flag picture in most situations.

5. Let people show their appreciation of the flag in the picture

When possible compose flag pictures in such a way that people are interacting with or showing their appreciation of the flag.

6. Decide if the flag is the main object or an additional object in the picture

The symbolic nature of national flags means that an addition of a flag to any picture can add much more than just the small area of the picture it is occupying. Lets say you are taking pictures of a group of people in another country or a building. And just by including a small flag will signal where in the world you are taking the picture.

7. Make use of the colours’ of the flag

The best result for pictures isn’t when you include a lot of colors in the same picture. It is much better to mach colours’ to each other. If you can add an element of the same color of parts of the flag it will enhance the flag and create a more coherent picture.

8. Many similar flags can be very impressive.

Pictures with several or many flags of the same kind can be very impressive on pictures. Especially, if you follow some of the photo tips above.

Every time you go to a new country or meet a new flag you will benefit from taking an impressive picture of the flag. Exactly because of the symbolic nature of flags such pictures will serve you in many applications, like in photo shows, in PowerPoint presentation, and may be in celebrations.

In my country small country Denmark in Scandinavia we use our old red flag with the white cross not only as a national symbol, but in fact much more as a symbol of celebration and good mood and atmosphere. With every birthday – whatever it is children or up to the oldest people – the red and white flag will be raised and used to celebrate the person with the birthday. Are friends receiving their friends arriving in the airport they will bring small Danish flags to celebrate the arrival.

Married Life: American and Japanese (Watch Your Language)

Good communication is an invaluable tool found in every successful leader's arsenal of capabilities. It is also a corner-stone in every successful marriage. As a couple grows with each other both physically and emotionally, so does their ability to communicate their needs and their ability to create real conflict resolution.

The trouble arises when you and your spouse don't fully understand one another. This may seem odd to some and I can imagine that others are entirely perplexed. How and why would you marry someone you can't speak to? Although I'm sure that does happen, what I mean is that many foreigners are capable of speaking English well but are often confused by slang or very casual English.

Due to the fact that the English language is a living and breathing thing, so to speak, it evolves and transforms with every new generation. It is difficult enough for native English speakers to follow the new slang and terms, it seems a little unfair to ask someone who is learning to also retain the slang and text short cuts such as lol, tbh, btw, FYI, idk, etc. ..

Practice Patience! Sometimes you are going to have to spell it out or rephrase your sentence. At the beginning of my marriage my husband and I would have arguments over some very simple communication errors.

I will offer two short phrases Americans use often but we don't really think about the weight of their perceived meaning.

"I don't care" When Americans use this phrase in a passive tone it is to vocalize a general indifference or it used as another way to say "I don't mind" "you can do that".

Unfortunately to foreigners (particularly those coming from less casual cultures such as Japan) this phrase seems to be suggesting that the American does not care about something they deem to be important and is therefore being rude.

I am mentioning this particular phrase because is sparked a three year fight between my mother and my husband. The Japanese have many demons and stories based around grudges because I personally believe the Japanese can hold grudges like no one else.

A similar phrase "That doesn't matter" or any variation in American culture is often used as a way to comfort someone who is upset over something that may seem insignificant to most. For example if someone is upset over a low test score their friends may try to help by saying one test doesn't really matter. This is akin to "don't sweat the small stuff", "no use crying over spilt milk" or "what done is done" … etc …

Again to some foreigners may take these phases as more of an insult than an attempt to console them. Many Japanese men (in particular) tend to over analyze what Americans would consider to be minor problems. They frequently worry over all the small details of life and can be put on the defense if they feel someone close to them (their partner) is belittling their concerns.

What should you do if you and your partner are already arguing?

I have found that asking my husband a series of questions as calmly as I can often helps me figure out where the misunderstanding is deriving from. Most often either he or I simply misunderstood the meaning. Other times we realize we have yet another cultural barrier to over come.

Prayer (and The Positively Big Deal About It)

Prayer: It is not only spiritual. It is the ultimate mind development tool. Every night, and every day when I can, I pray. It deepens me. I could put this article under a "spiritual category" and end it right there, but that is where it begins. Prayer in the mental as well as spiritual arsenal is a great thing, the greatest modality I have ever encountered to challenge and develop my mind to higher levels. So, although prayer is known as spiritual mostly , I shall delve into some of those other uses and modalities of prayer here.

In life and if you live a real life, everyone who lives faces a crisis at one time or another and pray then. But, most of the high teachers, including Jesus and Buddha basically say and mean things like "pray and meditate without ceasing" meaning that you cannot just pray when it is "a spiritual time to pray", pray all the time you can pray and never let up on your forces of prayer and vigilance. That idea there is not exactly mine, it came from many readings of Claude Myron Bristol's books "The Magic Of Believing" and "TNT: It Rocks The Earth". His exact idea was that "constant and subtle undying belief is a consistent form of prayer" in a crisis or in a peaceful time without a crisis. In fact, the richest forms of prayer, if we do pay attention come in times of peace and without a crisis when we are paying attention. In fact, attention must be paid if we want prayer and belief to work in our minds and "outside of our minds". Empty words without emotion, meaning and power do nothing anyhow. Indeed, the big deal about prayer is meaning what we say and following through whether peace or crisis, without that, prayer is just empty action.

In fact, I can say this: Courage is the key to positive prayer, fear is the key to the ultimate curse. Let me explain: The courage to follow through, mean what we say, be consistent and use our power right whatever the appearances may be is power. Fear is the ultimate single and simple weakness that ruins everything to put it how Charles Francis Haanel put it in "The Master Key System". To go by reality whatever the appearance at the time is the Master Mind, to go purely by appearance and fear is everything else. In this paragraph here is the big deal about positive prayer. The great things are what count, the rest is just the rest. Realize this fully and you will have the Master Mind and understand reality and how to deal with it. After all real faith is conscious, despite appearances, despite what is seeming to happen good or bad, and in reality.

Duck Tours Offer a Quacky View of South Beach

It seems like every time I sit down at one of the restaurants or cafes on Ocean Drive a big silly looking boat on wheels drives by with tourists hanging over the rails yelling at pedestrians and ‘quacking’. I always dismissed it as a silly tourist gimmick until a friend told me equally silly named «Duck Tour» was pretty interesting. One afternoon I decided to take the tour for myself, the price tag of $32 seemed a little steep at first, but I paid my fare and hoped for the best from this ‘land and water’ adventure.

The tour departs four times a day, so I decided to catch the final, 5pm tour. As I waited in line I chatted with some of the other riders, they came from all over the world to visit Miami and were excited about the infamous Duck Tour. Once we were on board we received a set of rules, a few lines to yell including ‘quack, quack, quack’ and were instructed to ‘jump over the side’ in the event the boat was to sink. Needless to say, I still had my doubts at this point.

As we turned the corner from Lincoln Ave onto Washington Ave. the guide pointed out several local attractions including Espanola Way, Club Mansion, and B.E.D. He spoke about the history of the area and explained why the buildings were referred to as ‘Art Deco’ — due to the mixed style of architecture including cubism, nauticalism, and futurism. My interest was peaking.

As we crossed the McArthur Causeway over the bay, he pointed out celebrity homes on Star Island and Palm Island and entertained us with trivia questions and corny jokes. We were encouraged to yell out and interact with the guide and our fellow riders. I admit I was starting to have fun.

As we pulled up to the dock our ‘vehicle’ instantly became a boat as we «splashed down» into the bay. This is when the real lesson began. The tour guide was very educated on the history of the bay and the beach. Despite living in Miami for several years he shared facts with us that even I was unaware of. I did not know that the massive Biscayne Bay, which averages 8-12 feet deep in most areas, was once a three-inch deep swamp that spanned from Downtown Miami to what is now Washington Ave. The City of Miami Beach and South Beach, was once called ‘Ocean Beach’ and the area only included Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue and Washington Ave. All of the streets after Washington Ave, including Alton Rd. and Bay Rd where several South Beach luxury condo buildings now sit, were made by sand dredging the swamp to make more land.

As he quoted the history of all of the islands and bridges of Biscayne Bay he also pointed out celebrity homes of famous gangster Al Capone, Leicester Hemingway (brother of Ernest Hemingway), Latin singer Paulina Rubio, and Rosie O’Donnell. When we passed the homes everyone outside stopped to wave, the riders (the real tourists) were very excited and all seemed to be having a great time. He even helped my job a little by pointing out real estate that is currently for sale.

When the tour returned to land we cruised to Ocean Drive where I, like the people I always shake my head at, quacked at the people seated at restaurants and cafés, sang loudly, and screamed at couples walking by asking them to kiss. Some cooperated, some didn’t, but ALL laughed and waved as we passed by.

When the hurricane of 1926 wiped out everything on South Beach but coral houses, J.N. Lumus sold all of the land on the ocean from 5th St to 15th Street to the City of Miami for $40,000 under the condition that it never be developed and forever be a park. I always wondered why the ocean front real estate started at 1st street in the SoFi neighborhood, ended at 5th and picked back up on 15th. We should all be forever grateful to Mr. Lumus because without this condition South Beach would not be what it is today.

By the end of the 90-minute tour I had learned so much about the city I live in, met some cool people, and had a great time. I would absolutely take the tour again, there is never a dull moment and I highly recommend it to tourists and locals alike. To make the deal even sweeter, the Duck Tour ticket serves at a coupon to several local restaurants and attractions so I definitely got a bang for my buck.

How to Become a Master of Your Work

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that you either are, or you want to be, good at what you do. I'm going to take that even further and assume that you either are, or want to be, great at what you do.

But are you committed to becoming an absolute master? Possibly one of the greatest of all time? And, if so, how do you get there?

My brother-in-law Steve has a Ph.D. in musicology. He's one of the world's foremost Beethoven scholars. [An aside: There's nothing quite like touring Beethoven's birth house in Bonn, Germany in the company of one of the world foremost Beethoven scholars! Someday I'll have to return the favor and take Steve to Liverpool.] In addition, he also wrote the definitive biography of French composer Erik Satie. So, when I asked him who he thought was the greatest composer of all time, I was a little surprised when he answered, without hesitation, "Bach, of course!"

Johann Sebastian Bach is, arguably (very arguably), the greatest composer of all time. He was inarguably a complete master of his art. Which brings me to an article I was just reading about Bach which talks about how diligently he studied everything that had come before. The article sums it up beautifully this way:

"Bach became an absolute master of his art by never ceasing to be a student of it."

(By the way, art historians would probably say the same about Picasso.)

You become a master of your art / craft / occupation / calling by never ceasing to be a student of it.
And, because you're a leader, you need to be a continuous student of two disciplines:

  1. Your industry.
  2. Leadership itself.

If you want to be a master leader in the widget industry (the one that they'll be writing articles about 267 years after your death), you need to be a voracious student of both widgets and leadership. Which means you subscribe to Widgets Monthly as well as Harvard Business Review. You read Widget Design in the 1800s as well as Maxwell, Cialdini, and Bill George. [Full disclosure: I don't think there is an actual book called Widget Design in the 1800s.]

The point is that what came before matters. Bach knew it. Picasso knew it. And you should know it too. Yes, you need to stay on top of current trends. But only by studying what came before can you put the present into context. And it's from within that context that you can see the patterns (if you look for them) that can help you predict the future.

Bach made musical breakthroughs because he was a student of music. Picasso made artistic breakthroughs because he was a student of art.

And, as a leader in your field, you will make breakthroughs-and become a master-only when you become a student of both leadership and your field.

Landlords HMO House Insurance

It is no secret that Insurance is largely calculated based on the postcode of the property, the type of tenant, and the risk of flooding, and crime rates etc. Insurers also hike premiums for city locations for no other reason than city prices are expected, by the consumer, to be higher.

As far as Landlords of Student Let properties are concerned, Landlords who need an HMO Insurance policy can expect to pay huge premiums if the postcode is even remotely near a city university. Landlords HMO Insurance near any of the universities in London is automatically inflated, as it is in Cambridge, Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh and so on and so forth. There are slightly higher risks to an insurer when the property is let on a multi tenure basis to students, but the price increases outweigh that risk.

It is vital that Landlords avoid the main big brands, and the insurers who are running TV advertisements, and delve deeper into what is actually available to them. Insurance is a massive market, there are hundreds of Insurers and underwriters who want a piece of that city business, and are willing to offer more competitive deals, but you need to shop clever!

Landlords HMO Insurance is a niche product that requires specific underwriting, and by choosing a specialist insurer, and not just the big names that come to mind immediately – savings can be made. For example – if you let your property to Phd students, some insurers will classify those tenants as working professionals. This can halve the cost of the Insurance to the landlord. It is not a broadcast fact because the type of Insurers that offer these savings are not plastered all over the media. Insurers like Ageas, Lloyds of London, Vasek, Equity Redstar and many more;- all reputable established underwriting companies – but you don’t hear their name on the TV or Radio.

There are lots of ways to keep the costs of HMO Insurance manageable, and lots of Insurers will offer incentives to Landlords such as Interest Free Direct Debits, to help with their bottom line, and cash flow – again, this is not always a well-known and advertised fact. They simply sit behind UK Insurance Brokers, providing specific Insurance policies to their clients at low-cost rates because they don’t need to service the customer directly, and can save money on the business. The Customer Service, the Advertising Costs, the Administration costs – they are all the brokers’ costs, so the Insurance provider can afford to offer better rates.

Going directly to the biggest names will automatically cost you more as a policy holder. Use a Broker – particularly for niche products. Brokers have access to a large range of products and turn over a high volume of business to the insurers; this enables the Landlord to benefit from choice, and much more competitive premiums. This particularly applies to Landlords who need HMO Insurance Policy’s, with city postcodes near a University or College.

It makes absolute sense for any property owner to shop wisely, and protect their investment with quality Insurance.

Manchecter United V Everton Preview (Monday Night)

United officially start their Premier league campaign on Monday night against Everton. After last season’s dramatic final day title loss to City, United must want to get a good start this time around.

United performed well in most of their pre-season games. Their only loss came against Barcelona in a curtailed penalty shootout. Most of the players looked in good touch. The defense looked weak however, and we leaked in a lot of silly goals throughout pre-season.

The good news is that most of the Squad is fit and available for the first match of the season. Darren Fletcher still remains absent with a stomach condition. He did play in the midweek testimonial but looked really thin. He will have to do a lot of fitness and strength training before he can step back up on the pitch.

With the signing of Robin Van Persie almost done, United arguably have one of the most potent strike forces in the premier league. What needs to be seen is how well he partners with Rooney up front.

Everton are always a tough opponent, especially at home. We need to be careful not to attack too much as we could get hit on the break. We need to keep a patient build up and try to break them down with our wing play. Steven Pienaar is big threat down the left wing and needs to be kept in check. They way he ran the show at Old Trafford last season really amazes me. Whoever of Rafael or Valencia starts at right back will have to do a good job.

Anderson looks set to start in midfield along with Cleverly or Carrick. Nani and Young should start on the wings with Welbeck and Rooney in attack. Kagawa looked really bright in the pre-season matches however I think he will start on the bench and come on later. United now have good strength and depth in their squad. Many fans are calling for a new signing in center midfield. I think Sir Alex is content with the midfield and might give a few chances to the youngsters throughout the course of the season

Really hoping to see a good game and a good result to start of the premier league season with.

Probable starting line up:

De Gea, Valencia, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Anderson, Young, Welbeck, Rooney

My Prediction:

United to just nick this one with their superior attacking line up. Everton 1-2 Man Utd

How I Make Money by Gambling Smartly

There may be no such concept as a "sure thing" when it comes to gambling but there are a few bets which com pretty close.

Before I explain what I mean above, I want to make sure you are aware of two things. Firstly, be aware that the vast majority of people who set foot in a betting shop do not really want to win money. Yes, they'd like to win money but they don't really, really want it. If they desired to win money with all their heart they wouldn't be in a betting shop to start with, they'd be at home gaming online. Instead of mucking about with Lucky 15s and Yankees they'd be minimising their risk as much as possible.

Secondly, people in the UK don't really understand odds. We look at the lottery and feel fine about flushing pounds down the toilet in the vain hope of hitting the jackpot but would never consider risking £ 100 to win £ 1 on Manchester United winning when they are already two-nil up against Sunderland at home in the Premiership – and it's in the 85th minute!

In the second situation here I hint towards the secret of my success in the world of gambling. Like the stock market, the first rule of gambling is "never lose". This means betting in-running on an almost certain situation. This is certainly not for everyone and takes a complete mindshift. Take Saturday 27th September 2008. I backed 5 goals or less between Manchester United and Bolton when it was nil-nil well into the second half, and the same for Chelsea against Stoke. There was really no point when my money was in danger whatsoever. I made a 3% return on my money and it was only on risk for all of about about 25 minutes. It would only take about 20 sessions such as this for me to double my money. In fact I've managed to take a £ 10 starting bank to over £ 1000 on three occasions now.

To conclude, if you want to make money through gambling it is necessary to pack in the seven horse accumulators and start thinking smartly.
