Flag Pictures – How to Take Outstanding Photos of Flags With Digital Cameras

Every country has its own flag as a symbol of the nation and the common interest of the population. So our flag is something we share and respect. We need good pictures of flags in many circumstances. For printing, for celebrations, for …

Learn to take better pictures of flags by following these simple photo tips.

1. Show the flag in the environment

A flag isn’t just a sort of clip-art. The flag is living because of its surroundings. If we want to take impressive flag pictures we need to catch the flag in the environment. It can just be the blowing wind, or the blue sky with a few clouds behind. Or the flag shown as a central point for a gathering of people or enjoyment.

2. Let the wind blow

A flag hanging lazy down from a flagpole isn’t a real flag. The flag becomes alive when the wind is blowing. Take a lot of pictures of the flag in the wind with your digital camera. Each extra picture doesn’t cost you a cent, and we need to be quite patient to catch the right moment when the flag is at its most beautiful position, also related to the light.

3. Get the light behind the flag

If you can take the flag pictures with the light behind the flag so the light is shining through the cloth of the flag, the flag will look much more interesting in a kind of transparent mood.

4. Avoid distracting elements reaching into the frame of the flag

The flag in itself should stand out clearly from the background and from other elements in the picture. At least that will give the most impressive flag picture in most situations.

5. Let people show their appreciation of the flag in the picture

When possible compose flag pictures in such a way that people are interacting with or showing their appreciation of the flag.

6. Decide if the flag is the main object or an additional object in the picture

The symbolic nature of national flags means that an addition of a flag to any picture can add much more than just the small area of the picture it is occupying. Lets say you are taking pictures of a group of people in another country or a building. And just by including a small flag will signal where in the world you are taking the picture.

7. Make use of the colours’ of the flag

The best result for pictures isn’t when you include a lot of colors in the same picture. It is much better to mach colours’ to each other. If you can add an element of the same color of parts of the flag it will enhance the flag and create a more coherent picture.

8. Many similar flags can be very impressive.

Pictures with several or many flags of the same kind can be very impressive on pictures. Especially, if you follow some of the photo tips above.

Every time you go to a new country or meet a new flag you will benefit from taking an impressive picture of the flag. Exactly because of the symbolic nature of flags such pictures will serve you in many applications, like in photo shows, in PowerPoint presentation, and may be in celebrations.

In my country small country Denmark in Scandinavia we use our old red flag with the white cross not only as a national symbol, but in fact much more as a symbol of celebration and good mood and atmosphere. With every birthday – whatever it is children or up to the oldest people – the red and white flag will be raised and used to celebrate the person with the birthday. Are friends receiving their friends arriving in the airport they will bring small Danish flags to celebrate the arrival.

Roma’s Impossible Mission

Looking at the facts of what has gone on this season; no Italian side has managed to score away from home against any of their English counterparts with AC Milan, Inter Milan, Roma and Fiorentina failing to score at Arsenal, Liverpool, United and Everton respectfully this season.

Those particular facts may not be relevant in this case but a more relevant observation is that Roma seem to have an inferiority complex in general and to United to be specific.

In the league match this season in Rome, United put out a virtual 2nd side as they had qualified with so many players that we had not previously heard of whilst Roma had most of their big guns out and they still could only draw 1-1 with United taking the lead.

Roma also are here without Francesco Totti and that suggests that they do not truly believe they have any chance of going through as they might have risked him if they thought there was a chance.

Putting all that aside, the main reason I do not give them and chance is that they are not just not good enough to go to Old Trafford and bettering United’s 2-0 win in Rome.

First of all they do not have Gigi Buffon or Petr Cech in goal that would give you confidence in not conceding, they have Alex Doni and he is not just good enough. They do not have strikers that take their chances went presented like David Trezeguet, Didier Drogba, Ruud Van Nistlerooy etc and the midfield is not steely enough to stop United if they feel the need to attack and score.

Like Arsenal, Roma are a joy to watch but also like Arsenal they concede too many avoidable goals and do not always make the most of the chances they create. I would dearly like for them to prove me wrong but unfortunately I do not think so as it would be a Manchester United vs Barcelona semi final as Schalke would not have the belief that they can win at the Nou Camp, no matter how much Frank Rijkaard helps them out with his tactical decisions tonight.

The Formation of the Beatles

The Beatles were a musical band that became a worldwide phenomenon during the 1960’s. They hysteria that they generated became known as «Beatlemania». Formulated in Liverpool, the group included John Lennon on rhythm guitar, Paul McCartney on bass guitar, George Harrison on lead guitar, and Ringo Starr on drums. Depending on the song, each member sang in the group.

In March 1957 John Lennon formed a «skiffle group» that he called «The Quarrymen.» Paul McCartney saw him perform at a church function, and when John realized that he could tune his own guitar, he asked him to join the group. Paul joined in July, 1957. In March of the next year, Paul’s friend George was invited to see the group perform, and he soon joined as the group’s lead guitarist. Finding a drummer for the group was to become quite the challenge. After much turmoil, Ringo Starr joined the group in the early 60s.

In the early years the group perfected their craft in the clubs that dominated the nightlife of Hamburg, Germany. Long hours of performing were the norm, and this lead to the development of some very talented musicians. When back in Liverpool, they perfected their chops at the Cavern Club, and their popularity continued to grow.

If there was ever a «Fifth Beatle», as Paul McCartney was to later say, «It was Brian Epstein». Brian started watching the Beatles when they performed at the Cavern Club, and by January, 1962 the Beatles signed him to become their manager. Brian opened the door to see George Martin, a producer at EMI, and the rest «as they say» is history.

The Beatles first entry into the UK’s record charts was their song «Love Me Do». Their single, «Please, Please Me» was more popular still. By the time «From Me To You» came along, they were well on their way to dominating the record charts for years to come.

Dominating the United States market was not immediate or a certainty. Entrance into this race was delayed for various reasons, but in December, 1963, Capitol Records released «I Want to Hold Your Hand», and the Beatles domination of the US market was on it’s way as well.

After dominating the UK and the US, the next stop was the world. In the years to come the Beatles either toured or did a concert in Hong Kong, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, the list goes on…

As time went on, cracks started to appear in the group. They recorded their final album, «Abbey Road», in the summer of 1969. Recording the song «I Want You (She’s So Heavy)» was the last time all four Beatles were together in the recording studio.

On September 20, 1969 John announced his departure to the group, but this was not made public until legal
matters were resolved. Paul filed for a dissolution of the band on December 31, 1971, and this finally took effect in 1975. The final «nail in the coffin», as they say, had been set.

Galen fashions a witty and sharp story filled with action, adventure, mystery, and romance with "Lord and Lady Spy." It's 1815 in England and Adrian Galloway, Viscount Smythe, works for the top secret Barbican Group, spearheaded by Lord Melbourne. Now, however, the war is over and Adrian is left with nothing to do but go home to his wife.

Sophia Galloway, Viscountess Smythe, is Agent Saint, one of the top spies in the Barbican Group. She's fearless, full of adventure, and firmly believes in following her intuition. Sadly, the war is over and she's left to go home to her husband.

While Adrian and Sophia are top spies for England, their marriage is full of loneliness. Sophia disguises herself by wearing frumpy dresses and Adrian uses his gentleman club as an excuse to stay away. Adrian and Sophia have suffered several miscarriages which have put distance between them.

When a mission to solve a murder for Lord Liverpool presents itself, Adrian and Sophia separately go to the meeting, but soon discover the others' Barbican identity. Both are shocked to learn the other is a spy and both are equally impressed. Realizing they have more in common than they previously thought, can they work as a team to solve Liverpool's mystery and save their marriage?

Galen's fast paced, action filled plot has the reader hanging on to the edge of their seat, anxious to find out what will happen next. Galen's voice is fresh and witty, drawing the reader effortlessly into the story with her humor. Galen's writing style is easy to read and enjoy.

The best part of the novel is the rich characterization. Adrian is driven to prove himself loyal to his county, partly because of the sins of his father and partly in an attempt to heal the emptiness left by Sophia's miscarriages. Adrian truly loves his wife, but until he discovers her true identity, he doesn't realize what an amazing gem she really is.

Sophia lives for the thrill of being a spy, hiding her self behind dowdy skirts. She loves Adrian with all her heart, but is terrified of giving her a marriage an honest chance once Adrian learns who she really is.

Galen uses a good economy of words to paint a wonderful canvas for Adrian and Sophia's escapades. The mystery and sense of danger totally draws the reader into the story.

The love scenes are deliciously spicy and full of emotion. Galen delights and entertains with "Lord and Lady Spy."

The Beatles Home City

John, Paul, George, Ringo, and Stuart Sutcliffe were all members of the BEATLES and they all came from Liverpool. The city is a seaport in North West England; tough grimy and somewhat depressing in the fifties and sixties, today it is currently emerging as a new vibrant tourist location. Much of this new tourist activity is due to the Beatles.

Liverpool is a city that is full of Beatles locations. There are several museums dedicated to the Fab Four, in the city. Original Beatle Stuart Sutcliffe died in Hamburg just before they made national fame in the UK. One of Stuart's homes is now a hotel and there are three more Beatles related hotels in the city: The Brian Epstein Guest House, The Hard Days Night Hotel and The Eleanor Rigby Hotel, which has a statue of Eleanor on a bench nearby, many people sit next to her for a photo opportunity.

The childhood homes of the Beatles are still standing, almost; as Ringo's first house is in a street of boarded up houses that are pending upgrading or demolition. Beatles tourists can visit Paul McCartney's home and also the home of John Lennon's Aunty 'Mimi' where John was brought up: 1945 – 1963.

The very first location that the Beatles played at was not the Cavern Club but a coffee bar: The Casbah Coffee Club, its still there. The Beatles even decorated the place and it still has Beatles art on its walls: John's painted walls and you can appreciate their Beatly insects theme as a huge spiders web is painted at the back of the stage area.

There are lots of places in the city that have strong connections with the Beatles and inevitably lots of tours to take you there, from exclusive taxis, walking tours and a Magical Mystery Tour bus and some of the best are just walking about and bumping into locals who if the right age (no pensioners) they may tell you their stories of screaming at the Cavern.

The Cavern club has been re-built in the original Mathew Street where the Beatles appeared 282 times. The cavern was the fourth location that the Beatles played at after the Casbah they played at the Jacaranda and The Blue Angel clubs in the city, both locations were owned by their first manager, Alan Williams.

Two songs about places in Liverpool were written by Lennon & McCartney: 'Penny Lane' and 'Strawberry Fields For Ever'. 'In My Life': places I remember '- is John's nostalgic song about his Liverpool home and Ringo did two:' Snookeroo '&' Liverpool 8 '.

John called his home city 'LIDDYPOOL' in poems he wrote: 'A Spaniard In The Works' and 'In His Own Write'.

Liverpool is a great place to visit for any Beatles fan and also there is much more about the city that visitors are bound to love when they get there!

More can be found at CityLeaves Liverpool for information when planning a trip to The Beatles Home town.

World Cup Goalkeepers – Zeljko Kalac, Australia

Zeljko Kalac is an Australian goalkeeper of Croatian descent who made his international debut in 1992. Since then he has played in over 50 international games, his most celebrated stint being with AC Milan.

Known as the Spider on account of his two meter plus frame and flailing arms, Kalac started his career with Sydney United. He later moved to Leicester in Europe but it was not an eventful sojourn.

A call to Roda JC, a little later, gave Kalac the push he needed. The Dutch side reached the last 16 of the UEFA Cup in 2002, and Kalac moved to Serie A with Perugia. Luck smiled on Kalac when Perugia’s fortunes dipped, and Kalac found himself as the back up keeper to the celebrated Dida in the AC Milan goal.

An ankle injury to Dida brought Kalac into his own. Besides Champions League, Kalac got a chance to play in Coppa Italia. The preparations for World Cup 2006 saw Kalac being summoned to do national duty, as deputy to Mark Schwarzer.

Kalac may not be number one goalkeeper of the Socceroos but he certainly is one of the most experienced goalkeepers in the game. He is also the most reliable, and can be expected to keep most forwards at bay.

The Fall of the Hacienda

The Hacienda in Manchester was a legendary members-only nightclub that was arguably the most famous club of its time. Madonna’s first appearance in the United Kingdom was at the Hacienda in 1984, which was the height of her fame if that’s any indication of what kind of fanciful magic this nightclub possessed. First opened in 1982, the Hacienda experienced its glory days in the 1980s, a time that was dubbed «Madchester» in tribute to the musical awakening in Britain at this time brought on by the music played live at the clubs.

Owned and financed partially by the band New Order and its record label Factory Records, the early days of the Hacienda were surprisingly relaxed, featuring bands such as Ministry of Sound, Cream, and The Smiths. The late 80s saw the advent of the unique sounds of acid house and a new kind of party: the rave. The maniacal rave scene was highlighted by the use of ecstasy, laser light shows, and fast paced electronic music and it changed the landscape of nightclubs all throughout England. By 1986, DJ’s playing house music had replaced live bands and the club gained world wide acclaim.

The turning point in the Hacienda’s notoriety came in 1989 when a 16 year old girl named Claire Leighton collapsed as a result of complications from ingesting ecstasy, and died shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, this was the beginning of the end and after several rocky years, the Hacienda finally closed in 1997. An apartment building of the same name now stands on the spot of the original Hacienda at 11-13 Whitworth Street West; developers demolished the original building. The interior fixtures, including pieces from the DJ booth, were sold at auction in November 2000 with all proceeds going to charity.

Visitors to the site of the Hacienda today will find themselves in the city centre of Manchester, an area that is, not the least bit surprisingly, a hot bed of clubs and bars. Although Piccadilly Station is nearby, most tourists walk the area of city centre, which is quite small. With a wide selection of hotels, Manchester has a lot to offer the overnight guest. Local cuisine consists of anything from Thai to French to Japanese to Indian. Many locations match up an award winning restaurant to one of the finest Manchester hotels, so guests can opt for a night in after a long day of seeing the sights of this infamous musical city.

The Top 5 Strikers in the English Premier League This Season

As we’re coming to the end of the Barclay’s English Premier League (EPL) this season it’s time to take a look back at some of the strikers who have really lit up the league and fired in the goals. Luckily, this season we’ve been blessed with some truly brilliant attacking play and some fantastic strikers who have made this happen. I’ve picked out my top 5 strikers for the season (both in terms of how many goals they’ve scored and their overall performances):

Fernando Torres – While being injured for long parts of the season, when Torres has been fit he’s been in absolutely scintillating form terrorising defences to no end. While his club (Liverpool) hasn’t had the best of season’s, many believe that if Torres can stay fit and firing on all cylinders then Liverpool will be able to finish in the coveted fourth spot.

Didier Drogba – While his best days may be behind him, Drogba continues to be the battering ram for Chelsea’s title challenge and has enjoyed one of his most prolific scoring seasons ever.

Wayne Rooney – England’s best striker by miles and the person they’re calling our best player of this generation hasn’t failed to live up to his potential this season. Always a scorer of great goals, he has now become a great goal scorer.

Darren Bent – While not the flashiest or most technically gifted striker ever, Bent certainly has that special knack of popping up in the right place at the right time to score a crucial goal.

Jermaine Defoe – Another English striker and a really lethal finisher. Defoe has pace and is someone that only ever needs one chance to score.

If a player performs well on the college level, then he will be eligible to enter the draft. Once an NFL team selects an individual to play on their team, they will have a chance of accomplishing things within the organization.

If choosing football as a career. one should obtain adequate knowledge about the sport in order to truly understand the essence of the game. Can Soccer Be Explained By Statistics?

Can a game as fluid and – many would argue – nuanced, and even elegant, as the game of soccer is, be explained by statistics? After all, there are hundreds of variables which all come into play during each and every soccer match – and, in some cases, pure luck seems to be a deciding factor in winning the game. A player’s performance in that particular match surely cannot be explained by the numbers alone, so those unknowns cannot be discounted neither.

Can any win or lose in the game of soccer be attributed to something as unpoetical as numbers, skeptics wonder. Soccer fans have never demanded more than to know the score, and time elapsed. Unlike those dedicated to baseball, soccer websites typically display only a handful of categories that could be useful for statistics: goals, assists, shots, shots on goal, game-winning goals and game-winning assists. Looking at those, one could conclude that soccer is just not a numbers game.

Still, in this age of big data, even a game as free-flowing, variable and seemingly unpredictable as the soccer undoubtedly is, has started to take data analysis more seriously. It was only in 1994 that FIFA has started counting assists, but now it looks like the game of soccer may be on a brink of statistical revolution. The biggest clubs, like Arsenal, Real Madrid, Chelsea or Manchester United, have already spent hundreds of thousands on statistical data analysis.

However, it looks like top clubs intend to keep the data for themselves! They have staff members dedicated to interpreting the data that has been generated on their matches. It seems like they are not too keen on making the methods they use to do so publicly debatable. They prefer to use them internally, to their team’s advantage.

Data analysis companies they employ will watch a live feed of the game, chart any distinct action, enter all this data into a database, and crunch the numbers. Statistics such as individual player touches, number of passes, number of balls lost and won, and others, are then revealed. While it seems that the resulting numbers still can’t accurately predict who will win the game, they can tell you a lot about the quality of the game. For example, a team’s number of touches is found to correlate with his FIFA rankings.

Still, unlike baseball and other similarly structured sports, analyzing soccer data is hard. Yet, there is no going back to hunches-only approach any time soon.
