  1. Ederson got the benefit of a horrible call, so Jota should be cheated. That is an argument from the shillest of shills.

To be fair to Kevin Friend, I think a very strong case can be made that this is a foul anywhere else on the pitch. Jota was going towards ball, even if he was controlling the ball poorly. Defender/goalie was moving away from ball, and played man and got no ball. Case closed.

Now, for me, that is not one to whistle IN THE BOX because of the poor last touch. But if we are appealing to special unwritten rules in the box, then how wrong were the referees, really?

  2. How about the Jota stonewall penalty against Spurs that wasn't given and this Jota penalty given a month later? Better example of the inconsistency than anything else.

  3. To stop all this subjective opinions I got an idea. Once a 'foul' is committed they should have 10 refs at VAR each giving their verdict whether its a penalty or not and majority votes decide the outcome. If its 5 yes and 5 no then it gets given to the public to decide, which they call in and vote yes or no penalty and majority decides the outcome. Then by next week hopefully half time would have started by then.

  4. "fair play to Jota for getting the penalty". This shows how people think about sport these days. His team did get an advantage because he CHEATED and the officials could not see that. As I watched at home, I immediately said "no penalty" and was pleased to see that the ref agreed, but then, OHH no VAR has suggested the ref goes to the screen and give a penalty. I played soccer for decades, this was not a penalty, all the ex players who are pundits say it was NOT a penalty only the ref and the VAR ref seems to think it was a penalty. There must be something wrong here!!

  5. VAR & Referee to decide the final decision..so just accept it..that's all.. everyone have different mindset to judge the situation & they can said anything base of their thinking..in football match, referee & VAR are the one to decide the final results not us.

  6. I’m a die hard Liverpool fan. But, that was absolutely not a penalty. It is so obvious that Jota after the ball goes out of reach looks to the keeper and runs into the keeper. And then falls down dramatically. That is embarrassing. Just wow.

  7. Even though I'm a Liverpool fan that is no way a penalty for 2 reasons. 1. Jota didn't have control of the ball and 2. Jota runs into the goalkeeper and they just collide no foul or trip so no penalty.
